Chapter 15 Night Screams

Fugeer treated me strangely well. Dozens of the city's fashionable clothes arrived every day, not to mention rouge and powder.

I was used to being rough and did not know how to dress up, so I left it all untouched.

When Fugeer saw the clothes and jewelry boxes piled in the corner, a dimple showed. "Sister does not like them?"

The residence had everything to eat and drink. There should have been nothing to be unhappy about, but I worried constantly about Sister Mudan, and I could not help worrying about Zhang Ming.

Had he truly abandoned me?

Fugeer watched my face. "I remember Sister does not care for these vulgar things. Tomorrow I will take you out, all right?"

At that I smiled for real. Half a month in this house had left me restless, and going out meant a chance to see Sister Mudan.

"Sister, rest early."

I was still sunk in joy as Fugeer's hem brushed the doorframe and he went far.

That night I heard several piercing cries outside the room. They chilled the bone.

In the morning while dressing I asked the maid who served me out of curiosity. The comb in her hand dropped at once.

Through the mirror I saw her panicked look.

"Miss, this servant does not know."

The maid lowered her head. Her body shook.
