Chapter 22 People Change

Looking at the man before me, eyes full of desire, I felt dazed for a moment.

I broke free of his hold and said flatly, "I'm hungry."

People change. I did not dare gamble.

Prince Ming had declared himself emperor in Dayan City. Fugeer was now one of the closest ministers at his side. Everything large and small went through him. His status rose, and with it his methods grew harsher.

I was no longer alone. Sister Mudan had not said anything, afraid I would worry, but I knew the shop was not doing well.

The women we hired were all homeless, about to be sold off. My shop was the only one in the city that wanted women, and for that it drew plenty of malice.

When I was around, no one dared make trouble because of Fugeer's face. Now that I was not there—

I could imagine what the shop was facing.

And Zhang Ming still needed me to collect his body.

Fugeer's face lit with delight. He hurried to call the maids to set out dishes. A whole table of food. I finished it in a few bites.

I let out a burp. Fugeer took a bowl and ate with me, but his bowl was not even half the size of mine.

Looking at his pale face, I said, "You're still growing. Why eat so little?"

Just like when we were little. He needed coaxing to eat.

Fugeer's eyes brightened. He buried his head and shoveled rice.

"I'm eating, I'm eating, Sister."
