Chapter 4 #3
I glanced at him from the rear view mirror.
I knew Damien had the fighting blood. Throughout his entire life Damien has taken mixed martial arts, boxing and who knows what else.
In training his main focus has always been one on one combat fighting.
I know that's what he loves to do. It's a fire within him, it's inevitable.
But that's what made him such a great first commanding guard.
That's why he was apart of my most trusted men.
I huffed and knew I shouldn't be doing this, but I had to let my brother live out his dream even if it was for one night.
"Alright. If it's what you wanna do. Then let's do it. But we tell no one especially mom and dad." I command, my choice coming out rough.
Damien fisted the air "Yes." I chuckled at his stupidity. "Damien you know your fighting to the death right." Leo said with a puzzled face.
"I can take whoever comes against me." Damien defensively.
"I know but you never killed anyone before. You sure you will be able to do that." Leo asked. I looked at Damien, he was contemplating it "Yea, it's in my blood remember." He replied cockily giving off a evil smirk before turning his attention straight ahead.
"Shits about to go down." Marcio murmured, checking his watch.
"Raf what do you think? Your the oldest one here." I asked. I heard him sigh "Your the boss." He said clearly.
I huffed and focused on the road. New York was beautiful at night time. Living in upstate was such a different scene than the city. We were always in the city though, since the clubs and warehouse was in the city.
------------------Matteo Pov~
I tipped the glass back, letting the smooth bourbon burn down my throat. Luca and I had just left the meeting with the Basilio Council.
My hand was still wrapped in ice water, the skin bruised and split from earlier.
Earlier with the council~
"Please, have a seat." The old man stood at the head of the table.
"My name is Aldo. I am the head of the council."
He looked to be in his sixties, just like the rest of the men and women seated around the large circular table.
Luca and I took our seats, studying every person in the room. The atmosphere was cold and heavy.
Everyone's eyes were on us and I knew immediately something was wrong. Something was coming. I could feel it.
"Why summon me all the way from America?" I didn't bother with unnecessary greetings. I wasn't here to exchange pleasantries. I was here for answers.
A woman with gray hair and sharp blue eyes spoke up. Eyes that looked strangely familiar. Like my own family.
"We are here to remind you of your lineage." Her thick Italian accent filled the room. "Apparently, you Americans have forgotten tradition."
My expression remained hard. "What tradition?" Another man beside her leaned forward. "The tradition of the oath you took when you officially joined the Italian Mafia." His voice was clipped. "You only remain loyal to the Italians."
My jaw tightened. "Where have we not remained loyal?" My voice came out rough. "Adriano is your Capo. We have done everything for the Italians. We have never strayed."
Aldo leaned back in his chair. "Yes, you have." His eyes narrowed. "When you married those two Russian women and had bastard children."
The room went silent. For a moment, I couldn't hear anything. Not the people around me, Luca...nothing.
All I saw was red. The next thing I knew, I was across the table.
My fist connected with Aldo's face again and again until hands grabbed me from behind.
Luca. He pulled me back, but I fought against his grip.
"You disrespect my wife?" My voice was filled with rage. "My children?"
I struggled against him. "My Capo and his family?"
I looked around the room. Luca finally managed to drag me away from the council room. I spent the entire walk back cursing under my breath.
And now...Now I sat in my room trying to calm the storm inside me. Luca paced back and forth in front of me. "You're going to make me nauseous." I looked up at him.
"It's probably because you drank two bottles of liquor already." He reached over and pulled the glass from my hand.
I glared at him. "What the fuck do you want me to do?" My voice rose. "You dragged me away from the motherfucker who just insulted my wife, my kids, our Capo, his children, and even your own Queen."
My breathing became heavier as the anger started rising again.
Luca cursed quietly. "I know, Matteo." He stopped pacing and looked at me. "But right now, we need to think logically."
I looked away. "Where would we end up if you slaughtered the head of the Basilio Council?" His voice was serious. "Huh?"
I didn't answer. Because I knew he was right. Slowly, I pulled my hand out of the ice water and looked down at the bruising. The anger was still there. It wasn't leaving.
But I had to control it. I sighed and leaned back in my chair. "Pass me my phone."
Luca looked at me. "I need to call Marcio."
I reached for the phone. Because something told me this trip wasn't going to end anytime soon. Looks like I wouldn't be coming home so soon.
