Chapter Thirty-Three Davix
The fact that Krish and Zann are experiencing changes similar to me is both reassuring and concerning.
Maybe this continued exposure to humans and other creatures is to blame.
And yet, Zann is right that it is not a bad thing.
It is strange sometimes to feel the racing of my hearts but it is more anticipation or excitement than fear.
And except for feeling a need to spill my seed more regularly, the tingling and throbbing of my cock sheath is not entirely unpleasant.
Corrina has spoken to us about moving out of the base, and soon she will help us to find a new place to live.
I am looking forward to having a space that is more truly ours, but this space has also become familiar and comfortable.
More importantly, it smells like home – like Krish and Zann.
And there is now also always a lingering hint of Corrina’s scent that feels familiar.
We will have to have her visit our new home frequently so that her scent will be there also.
As I start to pay more attention to the changes and reactions of my body, I realize that Zann’s suggestion is correct.
All of the sensations – the throbbing and tingling, the feeling of breathlessness, the racing of my hearts – are more pronounced when Corrina is near.
I experiment with getting closer than I normally would to other humans in the dining hall and exercise chamber, but the feeling is restricted to Corrina.
Or, more troubling, thoughts of Corrina.
I notice it especially when I catch her looking at me in the appreciative way she sometimes does.
And embarrassingly, when she smiles at me.
I do not tell Zann or Krish that part, though we all confirm that Corrina is to blame for these strange feelings.
Krish has learned very little from Wenschel except that we all seem to be in even better physical shape when we first arrived.
I did not need Wenschel or her medical machines to tell me that, strange symptoms aside.
But something about our symptoms is nagging at my mind.
As if I know what the explanation is, but it is just out of my grasp.
I am taking out some of my frustration with the exercise equipment, when I overhear two females chatting softly.
Between our expert hearing and the fact that some think my inability to speak makes me unable to understand them, I hear many conversations that are not intended for me.
Usually, I simply ignore them, but this one catches my attention.
“My heart was racing so hard when he asked if he could kiss me, I thought I was going to have a heart attack,” one of them laughs.
“That is really sweet,” the other replies. “I’m so glad you finally asked him out. I knew he was crazy about you but was just too shy to say anything.”
I drop the weights faster and harder than intended as my breath catches in my throat.
I stand there for a minute, and the thought that has been evading me for days suddenly surfaces.
The symptoms I have been having, that we have all been having, were described in one of the early anatomy courses that Krish watched about humans.
Specifically, about human sexual attraction.
I shake my head in disbelief and hurry off to find Krish and Zann.
“We have to talk,” I sign to Krish when I find him in the med bay. “Where is Zann?”
“In Corrina’s office,” Krish replies. “We are supposed to go look for a place to live tonight.”
“We have to talk before then,” I sign. Krish gives me a curious look, but he bids farewell to Ryder and follows me to Corrina’s office.
“We have to talk,” I sign urgently to Zann. He is sitting on the floor outside of Corrina’s office, flipping through one of the books to look at images from the space station’s history.
“Corrina and I were going to look at places for us to live,” Zann replies.
“We have to talk,” I insist, my hands repeating the words.
Zann glances at Krish who merely shrugs. He lets out a sigh and stands before addressing Ensign Liu. “Will you please tell Corrina that I will be back soon?”
Liu nods absently. “Commander’s not free for another hour anyway,” he calls as Zann and Krish follow me out of the office.
“The things we are feeling mirror human sexual attraction,” I sign as soon as we are back in our chamber. Krish stares at me like I have lost my mind, and Zann laughs out loud.
“We have spent too much time around humans if you are forgetting that we are haleen,” Zann teases, but I am not amused. I give him a shove and scowl at him, and he seems to realize that I am not joking.
“Wenschel says there is a lot of compatibility between our species,” Krish says softly. “And Davix is right. I remember learning about it shortly after we arrived. I dismissed the information as unimportant.”
“What are you saying?” Zann asks. “That our bodies somehow see Corrina as a breeding partner?”
“I do not know,” Davix signs emphatically.
Krish chuckles. “It is impossible and yet makes sense at the same time. But if this is true, what do we do? Should we just ignore it?”
Both Krish and I turn to stare at Zann. He frowns.
“For now, we do and say nothing. Corrina is our friend, and I do not want her to feel like she cannot be our friend anymore because of this. Maybe these sensations will pass and then everything will be as it was. But if they do not, we will consider what to do next.”
