Skylar #2

“No. While you touch me.” I swallow. “But not because the other guy is being manipulated and I’m being used as bait. I don’t want anyone being taken advantage of.”

I don’t know what to make of his stoic expression. “Okay.”

“That’s it?” I probe when there’s no follow-up. “No questions or comments?” I raise an eyebrow. “Objections?”

Because God knows Memphis has one hell of a jealousy streak.

We both do.

“Nope,” he deadpans.

I’m not so sure I buy that, but before I can call bullshit, his lips find the column of my neck and he murmurs, “What’s the other one?”

“Why do you want to know my dirty fantasies so bad?”

A faint smirk curves his mouth, and he moves his hips, thickening inside me. “Gathering intel.”

“To use against me?”

His husky chuckle fans my collarbone. “Depends.” A wicked glint enters his eyes, and he thrusts hard and deep. “But it’s only fair to warn you. The longer you stall, the longer I’ll stall.”

Damn him. His stamina…

And that voodoo dick.

“You know the game hide and seek? It’s kind of like that.”

“How so?” he rasps, fucking me with deep methodical movements, like he’s trying to coax every naughty thought I’ve ever had out of me.

And God help me, because it’s working.

“Well…you’d instruct me to go hide somewhere and wait for you to find me.”

His devilish grin makes my pulse skyrocket. “What happens when I do?”

“You’d hold me down, spread my legs…and force me to come for you.”

“Is that so?”

My insides clench when he secures both my wrists with one of his hands and pins them above my head.

“I mean, of course I try to resist. But you’re too strong and it feels too good.”

Our foreheads touch, our choppy breaths mingling. “How good?”

“So good I’d do and give you anything you want.” His hips punch upward, and he thrusts so deep we both groan. “Fuck, Memphis. Please.”

“Please what?”

I narrow my eyes. The asshole knows.

“Give it to me.” I jut my hips, trying to take over. “Right now.”

I’m in no position to make demands, but I can’t help it.

I sputter a curse when his movements come to an abrupt halt. “You’re the worst.”

“You sure about that?”

Unintelligible sounds scrape my throat when he slams into me, hitting that magical spot over and over again.

“I take it back.”

He’s the best.

Oh. My. God.

He. Is. The. Freaking. Best.

Needy whimpers escape as white-hot pleasure coils my insides. Memphis’s thrusts turn savage, the force of each one pushing me up the mattress.

His grip on my wrists tightens. “Trying to get away from me?”

I lock my legs around his waist, digging my heels into his ass. “Never.”

He’s home.

A tremor moves through him, and he crushes his mouth against mine. I open wider as he feeds me his tongue with the same rhythm he’s fucking me.

Just when I think my body’s going to give out, he releases my wrists.

The veins in his forearm flex as he grips the headboard. “Take my cum like a good girl.”

His dirty words and movements trigger my climax. I throw my head back, grinding against his pelvis as my orgasm pounds through me in violent waves.

A moment later he joins me, coming with a hoarse groan.

I idly run my nails up and down his sweat-soaked back as we catch our breaths.

After sex with Josh, I couldn’t wait to run to the bathroom and clean up.

But with Memphis…it’s different. I want to stay entwined with him and savor the moment for as long as I can.

His heart pounds like a steady drum against mine. The rapid, whooshing sound a cadence no one else could ever replicate because it’s his and his alone.

Strong. Secure. Unwavering.

It’s just sex, I remind myself, but the organ in my chest wants to play pretend a little while longer.

No such luck, though because Memphis rolls off me and onto his side of the bed.

The entire bed is his, dumbass.

Because you’re not his girlfriend. This isn’t a relationship. And despite my heart trying to convince me I’m wrong, my brain knows he’ll never return my feelings.

Because when he had me? He didn’t fight to keep me.

Hell, he not only let me go effortlessly, he made sure I knew that I meant absolutely nothing to him.

When I turn my head, I find him staring at me, his gaze scrutinizing. “You okay?”

“I’ve been waiting for that orgasm for three and a half hours,” I exclaim, evading the question—and the feelings I don’t want to acknowledge—because it’s a sure-fire way to ruin our arrangement.

A smug smirk bends his mouth as he brings the lighter to the end of his cigarette. “Yeah, but it was worth it.”

Shrugging, I study my nails. “It was all right.”

If looks could kill, I’d be a corpse. “The puddle on my bed says it was a lot better than all right.”

“I suppose.” I crinkle my nose. “I’ll need a repeat performance to know for sure.”

Amusement flickers across his face as he takes a long drag of his cigarette. “Brat.”

Realizing I’m lying in said puddle, I curl up beside him. “It’s rude to make a girl lie in the wet spot…even if you are a famous rock star now.”

He tenses for several seconds before snuffing his cigarette out in a nearby ashtray and leaning against the headboard with a heavy sigh.

I trace invisible patterns on his abs with my finger. “How’s Valerie holding up?”

She’s called Josh a few times since the funeral, but she’s no longer leaving him voice messages, so I think she’s starting to give up hope.

That makes two of us.

Memphis winces. “Don’t really want to talk about my mom while I’m naked in bed with you, but she’s hanging in there.”

I open my mouth to apologize, but then I realize…

He called her mom.

Eyes wide, I peer up at him.

“Don’t make it a thing,” Memphis warns.

“I won’t.”

Even though it’s a huge and awesome thing.

“So,” I begin, changing the subject. “What are your plans after tour?”

Removing my hand, he gets off the bed. “Just sex, Sky. Remember?”

Right.

His toned bare ass invades my line of sight as he stalks off. “I’m going in the shower.”

Given his words are clipped and there’s no invitation tacked on the end of that, I take it as my cue to leave.

Trepidation twists my stomach as I climb out of his bed and pick my clothes up off the floor.

The reason I approached Memphis with a no-strings proposal was because we have incredible sex, insane chemistry, an unexplainable connection, and I trust him.

However, all of that also muddies the waters.

While I’ve never been in a friends-with-benefits situation before, I know enough to realize that once emotions get involved and you start feeling things you shouldn’t…it all goes downhill.

Which means I can no longer let my imagination run wild and play pretend.

I need to get my head on straight and keep my heart out of the equation before it ends up destroying everything between us. Again.

“Just sex,” I remind myself as I get dressed and head out.

Because that’s all it’s ever been for him.
