Epilogue
Amelia
One Year Later
“Reed!” I stare in disbelief and don’t dare move from my spot on the floor. “Hurry. Come here.”
Belle’s on the area rug, pushing herself upward with her chubby little arms. Every single day, I can see her gain more strength, testing the boundaries of her abilities.
Reed stalks into the living room, phone in hand, ready to take a photo or video of whatever’s happening. The man has documented everything since the day I pushed her out into the world.
Belle’s facing his direction, and as soon as her eyes land on his giant frame, she pushes herself up and crawls a few inches.
Reed gasps. “She’s moving on her own.”
“She is. She’s growing too fast for me.” I love seeing her change every day, but I barely have time to savor a milestone before she hurtles toward another.
Reed drops to the floor a few feet away from her, phone pointed right at our little girl, and whispers words of encouragement.
I couldn’t have picked a better father. The man is head over heels in love with our little girl.
He’s been the one to stay up at night with her, changes more than his fair share of diapers, and is better than me at damn near everything when it comes to being a parent.
I can’t imagine being on this wild ride with any other man.
“I’m not ready for her to move around so much.” I tuck my legs underneath me and lean forward. “It’s all going too quickly.”
Reed’s eyes meet mine. “We could have another.”
My eyes widen at the thought. “Not yet.”
His shoulders sag forward like I told him Santa Claus isn’t real. “I need a few more months to recover and enjoy Belle before we add to our family.”
“But you do want to add more, yeah?”
“Yeah?” I say with a laugh. “I want way more.”
Reed raises an eyebrow as he lifts Belle into his arms. “Way more?”
“At least two more.”
“I’d be happy with that,” he says.
“Do you want a little boy?” I ask him, but I already know his answer.
“I want whatever we’re lucky enough to have.”
“You’re a good dad,” I tell him, watching the two of them. “But an even better husband.”
“It’s not hard to be both when you have an adorable little girl—” he glances up at me with the sweetest smile “—and an amazing wife.”
I’m the luckiest girl in the world. I don’t know what I did to deserve this life—I still don’t remember much of that night—but I am thankful for everything.
