Chapter Five #2

His lips were warm and urgent and within seconds she was clinging to him like someone drowning, forgetting about all the reasons why she shouldn’t be kissing Carson Weston.

Gathering her closer with his big hands, he deepened the kiss. As her hands slipped around his neck, she angled her head, trying to get closer to him. Familiar scents heated her blood while sensation after sensation slammed into her until she was reeling from the overload of impulses.

Just when she was ready to explode, he lifted his head, cupped her face. “I think,” he said breathlessly, “we can both agree the magic hasn’t gone anywhere. You have no idea how much I want you right now,” he growled as he grazed her nipples with the back of his other hand.

“Carson …” she moaned, leaning into his hand.

Catching her lips with his again, he quickly slipped a hand under her top to close over her one breast.

“Is it the red one?” he growled against her lips.

“Black,” she whispered, grabbing his head between her hands. She hadn’t had enough, not by a long shot.

This time their lips met in a searing kiss. While his hand moved from one breast to the other one, she frantically unbuttoned his shirt. Finally, she could spread her hands over his hot skin.

The sound of a car driving past and a horn honking, finally penetrated her lust-filled mind.

“Carson …” she gulped, quickly moving back to her seat.

“Damn, Abby …” Carson was also struggling to breathe. “Your phone, please?”

“I don’t think …”

“Really?” he just about snarled. “After what just happened? Your phone?”

“There really isn’t any point …”

Before she could finish her sentence, he bent down and kissed her again.

She should shove him away, get out his truck as quickly as possible but the moment their lips met, she was lost. When he finally lifted his head, they were both struggling to breathe.

Without talking, he held out his hand.

With unsteady fingers, she found her phone, opened it and handed it to him. Oh, my goodness. What this man could do to her with just a kiss should be illegal.

He was still struggling to get his breathing under control when he returned her phone. As he opened the door, he touched her face. “There is something here, Abby, and I think we should find out what it is.”

Unable to get a word out, she opened the door on her side as well. Before she could jump out as she’d planned, he was there, picking her up as if she weighed nothing before he put her down.

At that moment, Craig’s car turned into the driveway.

“That was close,” Carson chuckled as he took her hand in his.

“It’s not funny,” she muttered.

“Hey, you two.” Annie was smiling as she approached. “I’ve just heard you actually met in Spokane already last night.”

“That’s right.” Carson grinned.

“Do you want to come in for a nightcap, Carson?” Craig asked as he also stepped closer.

“I’ll take a rain check, I have to get back,” Carson said. “Thanks.”

“Come on, wife.” Craig put an arm around Annie. “Let’s leave these two alone.”

Quickly Abby pulled her hand out of Carson’s and joined them. “Carson has just dropped me off. Thank you!” she called out and without looking at him again, she hurried to the front door.

As Annie opened the door, Carson’s truck drove away.

“You okay, Abby?” Annie asked. “What about a cup of tea?”

“Not tonight, thanks. It’s been a long day.”

“Please let me know if you need anything else. Breakfast is whenever you’re up.”

“Thank you. You have a lovely place.” With a wave, Abby raced up the stairs, not giving Annie a chance to ask her anything else.

In the room, she closed the door and leaning against it, tried to calm her breathing. Her whole body was still tingling from Carson’s kisses. How was she supposed to sleep tonight? How did she forget about him if the universe or whatever it was, kept throwing them together?

Her phone rang. It was June.

“I’m back in the B & B, thank you for checking up on me,” Abby said.

“Are you okay?”

“Seeing Carson again was just so unexpected, but I’ll be fine, please don’t worry about me.”

“I’ll always worry about you, you know that. I’m just so happy you’re here, and I can’t wait to see you again tomorrow.”

“About that …”

“No, don’t even think of not coming. You’ve seen Carson, everyone knows about you two by now.

Besides, if we’re going to Bozeman on Monday, you’ll have to take the measurements of the closet space and kitchen cabinets tomorrow.

Or would you prefer it if we postpone the Bozeman trip to later in the week? ”

“No,” Abby said quickly. She had to leave here as soon as possible. “Tomorrow is fine.”

“Okay, great. Phone me if you need to talk, okay?”

They talked for another few moments before they ended the call.

As she was putting down her phone, it pinged with a text message. She didn’t even look at the number, assuming it was from June.

“I probably need a very cold shower, what about you? Carson.”

Heat spread throughout her whole body. And just like that, images from last night in the shower flashed before her.

Quickly she sent him an emoji before she threw the phone on the bed and rushed to the bathroom.

A cold shower sounded like the perfect solution to cool down the fever raging through her at the moment.

She’d secretly hoped to avoid Sunday lunch with the Westons, but June was right. Everyone knew by now what had happened. Hopefully there were other subjects the Westons liked to talk about besides how she and Carson had met in Spokane.
