Epilogue.

Chance

T he high-pitched tone of the emergency phone woke Chance up. He sat up cursing, wondering what disaster had hit them now. He grabbed the mobile from the bedside table and answered it.

“Get your ass to RC,” Axel boomed.

“What is it?” Chance said, staring into the distance.

“Well, Aurora’s prediction finally came true,” Axel replied in sheer disbelief.

“Fuck off! A volcano did not erupt in Rapid City!” Chance denied, shaking his head. “How much you had to drink?”

“Switch the TV on, and then get your ass here now. All rescue workers are being called in for this one,” Axel said .

“I don’t believe it.”

“Weren’t no volcano. Seems Carmine’s woman isn’t as nutty as a fruitcake after all! Turn the TV on Chance, and mobilise Hellfire,” Axel ordered.

Clio was awake and punching the remote control. He watched wide-eyed as an image of Rapid City filled the screen. It was being taken from above and clearly showed slow moving lava running directly towards the centre.

What the ever-living hell was happening? Chance wondered as his mouth dropped open.
