Chapter 6 #2
“I don’t know. Just after we arrived,” she replies, not even bothering to look at me given she’s so enraptured by Logan. If she were a cartoon, love hearts would be floating out of her eyes right about now.
“So you’re stalking Henrietta’s social media account now?” I ask, turning my attention back to Dorian.
He shrugs. “If I hadn’t, things could’ve turned out very differently tonight.”
“The only thing that would’ve turned out differently is John would’ve got a broken nose, and Mark a knee to the balls. Henrietta and I can look after ourselves.”
“Hettie has a bruised arm from that prick, and you hadn’t even noticed that arsehole dropping a drug into your drink. So no, you can’t look after yourselves,” Dorian argues.
He tried to drug me? Shit.
“Why is Dorian calling you Hettie?” Logan interrupts, his brows pinching together.
“You really have the most beautiful eyes. Are you sure you’re not an angel?” Henrietta responds with a sigh.
“Again. No. Answer the question.”
Jesus, he’s just like Dorian, except with shorter hair and more impatience.
“Because that’s my name. Hi, I’m Henrietta and you are…”
“Logan Crow,” he replies.
“You’re brothers?” I question.
Dorian nods. “We’re family.”
“But why is Dorian calling you Hettie?” Logan persists.
Henrietta’s cheeks flush. “You can call me Hettie too, if you’d like?”
Logan licks his lips, his intense gaze tracing over her face. “I can think of a few things to call you, and Hettie isn’t one of them.”
“Logan, back off,” Dorian says, before offering me his hand. “Shall we go?”
“Where?”
“Somewhere a little more private,” he replies.
“You’re angry,” I point out, standing but not taking his hand.
“Because of those men, not because you stood me up,” he replies, looking over my head at Logan. “Bring Hettie. She’s coming too.”
“I sure as fuck hope so,” Henrietta says, smothering another smile.
“That’s Henrietta to you,” Logan grinds out, a little too territorially for my liking.
“Possessive. Hmm, I could get used to this,” Henrietta says, and a muscle feathers in his jaw as he glares at her. I shake my head, not even sure I want to know what’s going on there.
“So, where are we going exactly?” I ask as Dorian guides me through the crowd.
“To the restaurant I booked for our date.”
“And you made a reservation for four?” I ask, throwing a look over my shoulder at Henrietta, whose eyes are wide with delight.
She’s loving this. Logan, on the other hand, looks like he’s in pain. I’m not sure what’s up with him, but every time Henrietta brushes against him, his nostrils flare and his body stiffens.
“Initially, the restaurant was expecting the two of us, but when I found out you were here with Henrietta, I decided we’d all eat together given you apparently don’t feel safe enough to be alone with me.”
“That’s not how I….” My voice trails off as Dorian gently presses his hand on my lower back, guiding me through the door. I step out onto the street, Henrietta and Logan following us.
“So, what’s the plan?” Henrietta asks, completely oblivious to the fact Logan has put at least six feet between them.
“We’re all going to dinner,” Dorian responds, shifting his gaze to Logan, who mutters something under his breath.
“This night is just getting better and better,” Henrietta says as she rushes to Logan’s side, twines her arm around his, and does this happy little dance I would find amusing if it weren’t for all the tension. “Well, lead the way, gorgeous,” she adds, motioning towards Dorian.
“Gorgeous?” Logan scoffs.
“Don’t go getting jealous, Angel. I think you’re hot too,” Henrietta says, beaming up at him.
“I’m not an angel. I’m a—”
“Let’s go,” Dorian snaps, cutting Logan off as he presses his hand into the small of my back once again.
We head towards a Bentley with blacked-out windows parked on the other side of the street.
It’s as sleek and impressive as Dorian himself.
When we reach the car, and Dorian holds open the door for me, I hold my hand up.
“I just need to speak with Henrietta for a second.”
Dorian nods, then motions towards Logan and says, “Make sure the landlord knows to ban those pricks. You know what to do.” Then he returns his attention to me as Logan strides off. “I would really like to take you both to dinner. No expectations. I hope you’ll do me the honor.”
Dorian climbs into the car without another word. When the doors slam shut, I round on Henrietta, but before I can even say anything, she shakes her head vigorously.
“We are going to dinner with those two hotties, and you’re not going to worm your way out of this.”
“Aren’t you picking up on the vibes? These men are dangerous, Henrietta.”
“Dangerous for our vaginas, you mean? Which obviously translates to a damn good night. Besides, don’t you dare tell me you’re not turned on by it. I saw the way you were looking at Dorian.”
“Henrietta,” I warn, but she’s already pulling open the door to the car and sliding into the front passenger seat, her grin a mile wide.
Seconds later, the back window slowly lowers. “Get in the car, Edie,” Dorian says.
Oh, hell no. He’s not going to order me around. “Please,” I say.
“What?”
“If you want me to get into the car with you, Dorian Crow, say please.”
A muscle in his jaw flickers. “Please, Edie. Would you get in the car?”
“That wasn’t so hard now, was it?” I reply, before tugging the door open and sliding into the seat next to him.
