Chapter 15 #3

My jaw aches, but it’s nothing compared to the heat blooming between my legs, to the utter, feral desire to make this beautiful, dangerous man come. Keeping up the brutal pace, I let him use my mouth, licking and sucking, choking and gagging.

Moments later, Dorian lets out a low, rumbling growl, his cock swelling impossibly large as his whole body shudders. He comes with a cry, his cum hitting the back of my throat as he holds me against him.

“Take it all, Edie. Take every last drop,” he bites out, his whole body quaking.

I swallow his cum, drinking him down until he’s spent, my nostrils flaring as I draw in oxygen.

When his fingers loosen in my hair, I ease backwards, my throat raw, my heart pounding, my clit throbbing to its own beat. Gently, I kiss the tip of his cock, before tucking him back into his trousers, then rock back on my heels, looking up at him.

I’m prepared for a smirk, maybe even a careless, easy smile.

What I’m not prepared for is the tenderness in his gaze, the utter, bone-melting, heart-warming adoration.

“Edie,” he whispers, the pure uninhibited reverence in his voice and the look in his eyes kindling a warmth that spreads through me.

I feel it begin to melt the ice I have shrouded my heart within and I shudder, afraid of what this means.

This thing between us was only ever meant to be about sex, about finding myself again through pleasure, about putting my needs first above all else, but the way he’s looking at me now? It weakens me.

I like this man. Far more than I ever intended. Far more than I should.

Cradling my cheek, Dorian’s thumb coasts over my lips. “Fuck, you’re perfect. You’re beautiful. I wish—”

“Dorian…” I whisper, emotion blooming in my chest, because the way he looks at me now is unlike anything I’ve ever known. Not with Robert, not with anyone before. Never.

It’s as though he sees me. Not the surface of me.

Not the person I present to the world, but the girl I buried long ago and the woman I’m slowly becoming.

I feel flayed open, stripped bare, and I can’t allow him to reach inside and grasp my heart in his hand.

I gave my heart up once before to a man who promised to love me and only me, and I’ve only just pieced myself together after he broke it.

I wrench my gaze away, shoving those terrifying thoughts aside.

I cannot let myself fall for him. I must not.

“Look at me, Edie.” His voice is gentle and, god help me, I’m drawn to him like a meteorite hurtling towards earth, unable to stop the destruction.

The unguarded intensity of his stare and the utter focus of his attention render me speechless.

No words are uttered, both of us too caught up in whatever is unfurling between us.

His dark eyes probe mine as though searching for something, and I feel my skin prickle with awareness, just like it had the first time we met.

It feels as though a part of him is trying to reach inside of me and pull apart my resolve to keep the distance between us.

If I stay much longer, he might just succeed.

Gritting my jaw, I shake my head, refusing to succumb to this intense moment.

“Fuck,” he whispers. “Fuck.”

“Dorian?”

“What the hell are you doing to me?” he accuses, the tenderness replaced with a harrowing kind of pain that lances across his handsome face. His hands curl around the stool so tightly his knuckles turn white.

Concern blooms within me, and I want nothing more than to fold myself around him, to give him comfort. But I can’t do that.

Instead, I push to my feet and stand. “I should go.”

“No.” He reaches for me, his hands gripping my hips. A low, feral growl releases from his lips as he presses his forehead against my stomach. “Don’t leave.”

“Dorian, please don’t make this any harder.”

My hands hover above his head, aching to cradle his face, to pull him up and kiss him with every wild, reckless feeling swirling inside me. But I hold back. Instead, I press my palms to his shoulders, gently urging him away. He looks up, his eyes swirling with lust, longing, pain, and confusion.

“Whatever this is, whatever is happening, it stops here and now—”

“No,” he grinds out.

“This was a colossal mistake. I can’t do this.”

“Do what?” he asks, still refusing to release me.

“You know exactly what. This,” I say, gesturing at the charged space between us.

“This is about pleasure, that’s all it is,” he argues, but I don’t know who he’s trying to convince more, me or himself. “Stay.”

“No.”

Dorian rises to his feet, bracing his hands on the piano lid, trapping me in his arms. “I said, stay.”

There it is again, that suffocating heat in his voice. I feel it crawl over my skin, hunting for a crack in my defences.

“And I said no.”

With a sharp shove, I push him back, slip from his arms, and bolt for the door. At the threshold, I turn. He stands by the piano, fists clenched, eyes narrowed, chest rising and falling. For a heartbeat, something monstrous flickers in his gaze. I blink, and it vanishes.

“Then go. Go before I chase you.”
