Chapter Ten #5
That wasn’t what he’d been thinking she was going to say, mostly because he was waiting for her to tell him that she was going to move on if he wasn’t around.
Thankfully, that wasn’t it.
“I’m game for that. A guy has to do what a guy has to do when he can’t get to his girl. Hopefully, this won’t last much longer,” he admitted.
She was honest.
“I was over by the council house earlier. My dad is making the Blackhawks jump through hoops over some shit.”
Oh, boy.
“What now?” he asked, not liking that. Before, the man was easier on them. Once Rayna said she was sleeping, and pretty much living with him, he began being a dick.
To punish them.
Before he hated only Wyler.
Now, he was an equal opportunity offender. Someone was a feisty old Native man.
Clearly.
She told him what the conversation had been regarding the burial.
“He isn’t having it, and on top of that, he told me to avoid you and the Blackhawks. Apparently, you’re trouble. God, but I do love trouble.”
He snorted.
“Tell me about it. I miss getting into trouble with you. I’ve meditated so much that my dick is confused.”
She laughed.
“I don’t want to know.”
He winked at her.
“I mean, my offer to take off of work for a few days to hide out here with me at the FBI building is still open if you change your mind. We can come get you, and transport you right into my waiting hands, my pretty,” he joked.
She sighed.
“Cas, I wish I could. Only, I have a job here. It might not be as exciting as yours, but it matters to me. I don’t want to bail on it. The people here need me.”
He understood.
“I’m just mentioning it being still available, but I will say that if you suspect you’re being followed, or that this asshole is onto us being a couple, I’m pulling rank, Rayna. Sorry, but he’ll hurt you to get to me, to get to Elizabeth. He needs intel on where she is, and isn’t above torture.”
She reassured him.
“If I think I’m in danger, I’ll call you. I promise.”
That helped him relax.
Her not being seen with them was the one thing they had to keep her safe.
“Anyway, my dad said that one of Elizabeth’s Marines died. I’m sorry. Can you tell her that for me?”
He nodded.
“I will. Jet was a good guy. We’re all shook up about this. He died in front of us.”
She was curious.
Since he brought it up, she ran with it.
“Is that how your face got all scratched up, or did you get into a fight with a cat?” she asked.
He touched his cheek, and saw himself on the video call, and she wasn’t exaggerating.
He.
Was.
A.
Mess.
“He was shot in the head while driving us to the White House. The car went out of control. This is the glass from the windows blowing in as we rolled.”
She looked scared.
“Oh, shit. Caspian!”
He reassured her.
“Hey, I’m good, Rayna. I'm fucking hard to kill. We’re scraped up, but good. Jet was the only one who died,” he admitted.
“I don’t like this, Cas. I’m scared.”
Yeah, and that’s why he didn’t tell her about how close it had really been, and how the Russian spy nearly popped them both in the noggin.
That near-death experience made him want to do one thing, and one thing only.
Escape.
“When this is over, want to get away? We can go to a nice island. Chris has a house in Fiji, that he said we can use if we want to. Ever been?”
She stared at him.
Was he kidding?
Fiji?
As in the magical place of pina coladas and sand?
“EVER BEEN? Do I look like I’ve gone to Fiji?” she asked. “Really? This simple Native girl who is currently trapped on a reservation? I’d stay in a tent here with you, Caspian! You’d better believe that fine ass of yours that I’ll sleep in a hut on an island!”
He found her funny.
“I’ll take that as a no. Oh, and it’s not a hut. This is Chris we’re talking about. He told me it’s a mansion, and it's waterfront. Want to join me when this is over? Or are you still adamant about bailing on the rez?”
She snorted.
Oh, he was tricky.
“Not the same thing, and you know it. I’ll bail for a week on the sand. I can’t bail as a law enforcement officer who is hiding from danger. Two different things, my love. I’d love to sit on the beach with you, so that’s a yes. Make the plans.”
Then, he would.
“I’ll make Chris aware that we’re going to need a jet and the house.”
She giggled at that.
She’d never been on a jet before either.
“And a jet? Holy shit. I’m fucking you all over the goddamn place. The jet. The bathroom on the jet. The seats in the jet…hell! I’ll fuck you on top of the pilot!”
That amused him to no end.
He loved how she could always make him laugh. Before her, he hid in that shell. With her, he’d been able to come out to see the beauty in the world.
“Well, let’s not go that crazy. I’m not a threesome kind of a guy. The pilot isn’t getting in on this.”
She snorted.
“I love you, Caspian, you nut. You knew exactly what I meant.”
Yes, yes, he did.
So, he winked at her.
When her desk phone rang, she held up her finger to take the call.
“Chief of police.”
She listened to her deputy on the other line. Then, she rolled her eyes.
“Okay, I’ll be there.”
Hanging up, she focused on him.
“That’s going to be a mess. We have a bar fight where the patrons are swearing that they paid for unlimited drinks, and now the bartender wants his money.
Those damn brothers know better to drop that on drunk Natives.
I’m going to be spending the next few hours detoxing some Natives.
Weeeeee! I’m going to need that vacation. ”
He laughed.
Then, got serious.
FAST.
“You’re not going alone, right?”
She shook her head.
“No, I’m going to meet my deputies there. There’s only a few of us on duty.”
He had to have faith in the fact that this asshole didn’t know about him and Rayna, or how she was close with the Blackhawks.
“You, me, later? Some really hot phone sex?” she asked. “I’ll be naked and waiting.”
He fanned himself.
“Hell, yeah. You know I’m not saying no to that. I’ll be the lecherous one watching with his dick out.”
She smiled.
“Again, I love you, Caspian. Don’t forget it.”
How could he?
No one had ever loved him like she did. She was, in fact, the first love of his life.
And his only one.
Because he couldn’t kiss her, he blew her a kiss.
“Love you, Baby. Start buying bikinis. Just the bottoms. You won’t need the tops. I like your tits.”
She laughed.
And then hung up.
Oh, Caspian knew one thing. He couldn’t wait until this asshole was caught.
He wanted to get back to his life.
ASAP.
