Chapter 48

CHAPTER 48

“ T hank you, everyone, your help was much appreciated,” Shiloh said to the team.

“The Hayes wolves have no real fighting skills,” Julian said.

“I noticed that as well. I howled at a few and they turned tail and ran,” Battle told them.

Robin laughed. “That’s because your howl was scary. It even gave me pause for a moment.”

“Really?” Battle said, sounding surprised.

“It did. I heard it from where I was and it gave pause to the wolves near me, too,” one of the dragon guards said.

Battle grinned. “Awesome.”

Frederick shook his head at his cousin.

“I’d like you all to be a team under Julian here, except for you, Frederick,” Shiloh instructed. “I’ll find someone else to join your team.”

Julian nodded, looking at the others. “We can do that. Any problems?” he asked the other members.

Shiloh nodded when there weren’t any. “Excellent. Give your contact details to Julian and we can set up training for you as a team.”

“This should be fun,” Robin said.

“Just remember, if the training plan says you fight in your human form, no powers are to be used,” Frederick reminded them.

“Got it. If there’s nothing else, we’ll be off,” one of the gargoyle guards said.

“Nope, give your details to Julian first, then off you go,” Shiloh replied. He looked at Frederick. “We need to go and update the kings and the generals.”

Just then Zeus, Hades, and the others appeared. Zeus and Hades rushed to their mates sides.

Zeus pulled Battle close and rested his hand in Battle’s cheek. “Were you injured?”

Battle shook his head. “Not even a graze. I do seem to have a meaner howl and all my senses are heightened. Something you forgot to tell me, Boo?”

Zeus kissed him before leaning back. “You might have a few extras, courtesy of our mating. Plus, you can’t die unless I do, and you’re a demigod.”

Battle's mouth fell open in shock. “I’m a demigod?”

Zeus nodded. “If it helps, so are Frederick, Jason, and Brook.”

“What?” Jason exclaimed from behind Zeus. He turned to look at Ares. “Something else you forgot to tell me, my god?”

“Um, surprise!” Ares said with a grin.

Jason laughed.

Frederick looked at Hades and raised a brow.

“Um, surprise!” he said, grinning, making the others laugh.

Frederick shook his head and kissed Hades.

“I’m glad you’re back safely. Alpha Stanley has already phoned me, thanking you all for your help protecting his pack,” Blake said, walking over to join them.

“The Hayes pack wolves are terrible fighters. More than one of them turned tail and ran from us. Frederick and I managed to hurt Barnabus, but he vanished along with his wolves before we could finish him off,” Shiloh told them.

“He used fireballs against us. Which I’ve got to say hurts. He also managed to call on Shiloh’s gorilla strength. Shiloh in shifted form is amazing by the way. But I think he can only mimic one power at a time,” Frederick supplied.

“That’s good to know,” Blake replied.

“I’ve asked Julian to lead the first team, which will be Battle and the others that went with Frederick and I,” Shiloh told him.

“And I’m changing up the obstacles. I realise now the first one was way too easy,” Ares said.

“Easy is good especially for those who have never done anything like that before plus the children can practice on it I know there are enough people here to protect them but they need training in case something bad happens to them.” Alex squeezed Tudor’s hand.

“That’s good thinking, Tudor, and I agree. We should train the children up,” Blake concurred. “I’ll talk to Dask and Oz about it.”

“I can set up some children's training courses. It would be wise to teach them everything, armed and unarmed,” Ares offered.

Barnabus arrived back at the Hayes pack, in pain, holding his arm over his bleeding chest. He looked at his wolves and scowled. Then he turned to his Beta. “Up their training and include protection from a gorilla.” And without waiting for a reply, he stomped off into the pack house, calling for the shaman to come and attend his wounds.

While he was waiting he stumbled into his office and let out a bellow of rage, flipping his desk. Everything crashed to the floor and either shattered or scattered.

He dropped down onto a chair, again holding an arm over his chest. He leant back, forgetting the cuts he had, and quickly sat forward, hissing with pain.

Nothing was going to plan. It was time to do something drastic, but what? He needed to think. No, what he needed was that damn spear, with that he would be invincible.

Cade was reading through the emails from his family, collating all the information they had provided. He could feel the hope coming from his family members. Not that he blamed them, after having lost hope of ever being able to claim their mates and live. Now, thanks to Cade’s new pack, hope was something they all had again. He replied to all of them, trying not to get their hopes up, but telling them that his pack was fully prepared to help break their curse. He had cautioned them against getting too optimistic, but they didn’t listen, not that he blamed them.

The door to the library opened and Peyton and Dane walked in, laughing together.

Cade looked at the gargoyle prince. He had always liked Dane, but he had been a bit full of himself and his own importance — not as bad as Maurice or the twins, but bad enough. This new version of Dane was much more chilled and fun.

“What’s got you two laughing?” he asked them.

Peyton looked over at him and his smile changed to pleasure at seeing his mate. He rushed to Cade’s side, turned his head, and kissed him hello.

Cade slowly pulled back and touched Peyton’s cheek. “Hey,” he said softly.

“Hey,” Peyton replied, smiling at him and dropping another kiss on his nose.

“Don’t mind me, I’ll just lose myself in my work,” Dane said, laughing.

“Sorry. Hi, Dane,” Cade greeted.

“Don’t worry about it. As to what we were laughing at, we ran into Tudor and he told us the god’s have just let their mates know they’re now demigods.”

“Apparently none of the gods had imparted that bit of information on to their partners. He said their faces were a picture,” Peyton added.

“I can imagine,” Cade said. “How good was Tudor earlier? He flew through that course.”

Dane smiled. “He was amazing, wasn’t he? I’m so proud of him. Apparently, Ares is rethinking the course as he realises now it’s too easy.”

“Jason should sit him down and watch Gladiators and Ninja Warriors,” Peyton said, pulling his phone out of his pocket and sending Jason the message.

“Now why did you have to do that? He’ll probably make it a cross between the two,” Cade complained.

Peyton laughed. “Probably.”
