Chapter 26

Xander

(One and a Half Years Ago)

THE DRUGS AND ALCOHOL WERE wearing off. With the mind-numbing effects already slipping away from me, I grabbed the curvy woman’s waist and brought her down harder onto my dick while she sucked on Perseus’s cock above us and got rammed in the ass by Zagan.

The dark-skinned woman moaned hard around Perseus’s shaft while I buried mine as far into her tight cunt as the position from under her and Zagan would allow.

Don’t think, don’t think, don’t think, don’t think.

The luscious human came as Perseus and Zagan cooed dirty words to her, but I didn’t hear what they said.

I didn’t hear the exchange the duo had with the beauty between us as she got redressed and left the hotel room.

I remained on my back, staring up at the ceiling while regaining control of my breathing.

The high burned out of my system all too soon.

Zagan reappeared above my head, now in sweats but shirtless. He showed no signs of the two hour long group sex session. He raised his pierced brow at me. “Dude, you gonna put clothes on or just keep laying there with your dick out?”

“If you like looking at it, just say so,” I jested with a wide grin and thrust of my hips.

Zagan curled his lip in annoyance, a pillow appearing in his still human hand. He promptly dropped the pillow onto my face and held it down in an attempt to smother me. I thrashed and wiggled free of the murderous pillow and sat up on my knees to fix the Incubus with an outraged frown.

“Betrayal!” I shouted, pointing my finger at him. “So that’s how it is. We indulge in salacious activities together, only for you to try to kill me afterward. My heart is wounded. How will our friendship ever recover?”

“Are you auditioning for a role in some cringy romance-murder plot production?” Zagan asked in bewilderment.

I sat flat on my butt and stretched my legs out while reclining back on my hands. Still very naked but unbothered, I pursed my lips. “That does sound like a wash-rinse-repeat kind of plot, huh?”

Perseus came back into the bedroom from where he’d walked their dinner and my method of distraction out of the hotel suite.

“Hey, you know what we should do?” I asked.

“Put some clothes on?” Perseus offered with a raise of his brow and pointed look at my cock.

I made an overly exaggerated huff and rolled my whole head with my eyes. Snapping my fingers, all of the human woman’s fluids and my own evaporated from my body before clothes appeared in its place. I dusted off the black sweatpants and sweatshirt of any lingering demonic essence.

“My sex positive demon friends aren’t being very sexually free right now,” I grumbled.

Before I could continue, Dante appeared in the room in a burst of shadows. His flawless brown skin glistened with beads of water as he toweled off the last drops of a shower he’d clearly taken. Lounge pants hung low on his hips.

“All done?” Zagan asked him.

“Yeah,” Dante answered, tossing the towel to the floor. No sooner had it hit the ground than a black snake slithered out from under the bed to burrow within the fluffy luxury hotel towel. “He didn’t taste all that great, so one fuck was enough for me. Did your meal leave, too?”

“Yeah, we just finished up,” Zagan confirmed with a point of his thumb at me. “This one was about to suggest we do something else.”

Dante and the rest of the guys focused on me.

I sat up straighter and passed an excited gaze between the three Incubi in front of me.

“We should start doing some sort of real party after our concerts! Instead of bringing randos back to our hotel rooms, we could do an actual party somewhere and fuck all together. All five of us and whatever humans we want.”

The more happening, the better. The more people with their smells, sounds, and touches, the better distraction it provided.

“All five of us?” Dante repeated with a wary glance at the towel he’d discarded. “I know the four of us have shared, but Coldin’s never joined.”

The towel on the ground shifted as the thick black snake reappeared and grew. The serpent turned demon now stared at Dante with human green eyes and a bland expression. Coldin crossed his tattooed arms. “That’s because none of you could handle me if I joined.”

The taunt was almost like a declaration of war for the three sex demons in the room, all of whom narrowed their eyes on the Letum demon but kept their mouths shut.

Whether they liked it or not, Coldin was probably right.

I could only imagine what got off Hell’s most dangerous assassin when it came to sex and kinks.

“Do you think you could pretend to be normal for an orgy if we did something like that?” I asked him.

“Why are you suddenly so interested in a big after party and group sex?” Perseus asked me, his lips tightening in suspicion.

Questions were good. Conversation was good.

Both kept my mind going in one direction, stopping me from looking back.

Yet that question posed by my golden-haired friend was the wrong question.

With it, the very feeble hold I’d managed to get on my emotions and thoughts slipped.

That fracture in the dam holding it all back exploded inside of me, and my carefree facade went with it.

Thoughts of Kendyll flooded my head until I suffocated from the loss of her.

It had been seven months since I woke up to an empty bed and apartment.

Well, not entirely empty. She’d left behind everything we’d bought together, as well as Nightly the bat.

I’d lost count of how many times I’d started to throw the stupid plushie away only to hesitate at the last second and return him to his place in my closet where I’d boxed up the rest of her things.

She’d left without a goddamn word.

Sort of.

The memory of her messy handwriting on a short yet clear note still burned at my insides like I was a vat of kerosene and a match had been dropped right down my throat.

“Does anyone have any more H or weed? Hell, even a cigarette. I’ll take whatever,” I grumbled and flopped back on the bed to stare at the ceiling.

Silence filled the room. I wasn’t sure how many seconds passed before the air shifted with the tell-tale signs of a demon shadow-walking.

When the feeling subsided, Perseus’s face appeared above me where I lay.

I realized he’d probably waved the rest of the guys off until it was just the two of us left in the room.

Wordlessly, he produced and lit a joint before sticking it between my lips. I took a deep inhale, knowing the human rolled herb wouldn’t be nearly enough to take my now spiraling mind away from thoughts of the woman who haunted me. But it would have to do for now.

Perseus watched me as I grabbed the joint and blew a cloud of smoke up into his face. He breathed it in before flopping down next to me on the bed.

“You still aren’t over her?” Perseus asked quietly.

I had to swallow the thickness coating my throat before I could answer. “No.”

“So then why not go after her? I know you can’t just go to a person like Incubi who have tasted someone’s sexual essence, but you could still find her through her TV show’s shooting schedule. Find where she’ll be and go to that place or—”

“No,” I cut him off. I took another long drag. I needed this stuff to fucking kick in already. “I can’t.”

“Why? If you’re so messed up about it that you’re constantly drowning yourself in either drugs, sex, goading the other guys into fighting with you, or all three, then you should find her.”

It sounded so simple, but it wasn’t. Because when I closed my eyes, I still saw her note. When I breathed in, I still tasted her fear in the air. When I sat still long enough, I felt the hollow place in my chest that I’d carved out to make a place for her.

She’d left, and she’d taken my fucking heart with her.
