The Don She Fell In Love With
Chapter 1
Victoria Samuels
Secrets
“Are you crazy?” My sister Gabby yelled, pulling me away from Glenn. She barged in the hotel room with the extra key I gave her. She had been calling me nonstop but I was busy with my friend.
Me and Glenn were in my room kissing after just fucking like animals. It was a bold move from me but it was the last time we were going to be together; at least that’s what we told one another. After tomorrow it would definitely be a lot harder to sneak away.
“Get the fuck out!” She screamed at him as her hands were pushing him in the back to leave the hotel room.
“I’ll call you in a few.” Glenn laughed saying it. Gabby slammed the door in his face, locked it and stormed over to me.
WHAP! She smacked me so hard my face turned. I pushed her away from me because fighting wasn’t an option right now. Neither one of us needed any bruises or scratches on us, especially before tomorrow. Questions would be asked about why we fought and I wouldn’t have an answer.
Gabby was much bigger than me and beat my ass quite a bit growing up but I’d still throw hands with her if need be.
I usually didn’t because I’m only 125 pounds so not only would my hits not affect her; she’d probably whoop my ass worse.
I took that shit like always and walked into the bathroom to make sure there was no mark left before tomorrow. `
“Why didn’t you just leave him like I told you to a long time ago?” It always aggravated me that she’d want to talk after hitting me.
“Leave who? Glenn?” I pretended not to know who she spoke of.
“Cairo, Bitch. Do you have any idea what he will do to you if he found out about Glenn? What he would do to us; you know the family you’re putting at risk by sharing your pussy with a wanna be rapper.” She started pacing in the bathroom.
Glenn was one of the security guys Cairo hired to keep me safe.
We were the same age and had a lot in common.
Cairo was three years older than me and very mature, experienced and wise for his age.
Many times he has said I needed to grow up.
In my defense, I couldn’t help being younger or the fact that he didn’t have a fun childhood from what he said.
Anyway, Glenn was an up and coming rapper who did shows whenever he wasn’t with me. I’m not into rap so I couldn’t really say if he were good or not. All I know is people knew who he was and he had groupies too.
Long story short, one night me and Cario had a fight after coming back from some event he had to attend.
Well, I cursed him out as he stood there smoking his cigar ignoring me as usual.
Anytime I’d call myself going off, he’d light that nasty thing, stare at me for a few seconds and tell me to shut the fuck up.
Of course I would at the moment but he’d be getting cursed out like crazy in my head.
A few times, I would punch him in the face but again, that was in my head too.
See, Cairo wasn’t an ordinary type of man.
Nor was he some fake kingpin, drug dealer or connect.
He was the DON from what the streets called him.
He was so damn powerful that the connect had to ask him to distribute anywhere in the US.
And from what I’m told this was the rule in a couple of other countries too.
Cairo had presidential type of power that any real boss wanted and couldn’t get. I mean he had a security team of twenty and that’s just when we went out. The ones at his house, on his street and checking stores, restaurants, hotels, events and even friends’ houses were always on point too.
In order for someone to get Cairo it would have to be an inside job because his security was extremely tight and the loyalty within his team ran deep. Well, except for Glenn who didn’t care and enjoyed playing with fire.
“Are you listening to me?” Gabby yelled, making her voice echo off the walls in the bathroom. Looking in the mirror and seeing the red mark on my face forming pissed me off but again, I knew better and left it alone.
“That nigga has killed people for lesser things and you had the audacity to cheat on him.” I couldn’t understand why she was worried when I wasn’t.
Me and Glenn have been sleeping together for a few months now and were very careful. Even with the security guards he had around me, we still managed to be together. If Cairo even thought me and Glenn were having sex we would’ve been dead by now.
“Relax Gabby. I’m supposed to be having a great time before tomorrow and you’re yelling and screaming about minor things.
” Turning the bathroom light off, I walked out and into the living room area of the penthouse suite Cairo put me in.
The rest of the bridesmaids were on lower floors due to having to pay for their own rooms. They could never afford to stay in a place like this.
The only reason they could for this weekend was because of Cairo who had the manager put the rates down to what they could afford.
“What are you doing?” I asked Gabby. She was doing all this hand movement and kissing up to God. We were never religious people so she was confusing me.
“Praying for God to have mercy on your soul and for Cairo to spare us when he finds out about your infidelity.” She placed a kiss on my forehead, shook her head and left. I was happy too because she was getting on my damn nerves.
“Wow! You look beautiful.” My dad gushed over me in the wedding dress I had custom made and flown in from Italy. Cairo never cared how much money I spent, therefore I went all out on this dress. It was a few hundred thousand and worth every damn penny.
“Thanks Daddy.” I kissed his cheek and took a seat at the vanity as my mother placed the tiara veil on my head. As she did, I glanced at myself in the mirror and I must say, Cairo was going to lose his breath when he saw me.
“It’s almost time.” Gabby came rushing in the room. All of us turned around and she seemed to be embarrassed.
“What’s wrong?” My dad questioned making his way to where she stood.
“Nothing, why? I was just saying it’s almost time because the limos pulled up.” Squinting my eyes to make sure they weren’t deceiving me; I saw a hickey on her neck.
“Gabby, did you have sex last night with someone?” You heard everyone in the room gasp when my mother asked the question.
“Ma, really?” Gabby wasn’t happy.
“I’m just asking. We’re here for your sister’s wedding and the gowns are strapless. Was it really necessary to have someone leave a mark on you?”
“It’s ok Mrs. Samuels. I can cover it up.” The makeup artist said, rushing over to Gabby.
“Please do. I already have one whore for a daughter. No one needs to know about the other one too.” My father’s words cut deep.
He knew I was cheating on Cairo because Gabby told both of my parents with her big mouth.
They too asked me to end things with Glenn a while back but being hardheaded, I didn’t.
“Let’s get ready to go.” My mother interrupted to take the heat off my father’s comment. She knew just like everyone else that I’d go back and forth with him and didn’t care what came out my mouth.
I remember the last time me and my dad got into it, I kindly reminded him of how he cheated constantly on my mother and now we have a ghetto ass bastard sister and brother who lived in the hood that we hated.
It wasn’t their fault my father cheated but the fact their dirty ass mother kept them even after finding out my father was taken, left a nasty taste in my mouth so fuck them too.
I’m not sure if my father visited or sent money and I couldn’t care less. In my eyes, they weren’t a part of my family and never would be.
“Remember, this is your day, Vicky.” I smiled when my mom called me by my childhood nickname.
“Don’t let anyone make you upset; not even your father.” She hugged me tight.
As we all prepared to walk out, an eerie feeling washed over me. It wasn’t one that felt someone was watching me but more so that something bad was going to happen. Ignoring my gut, I stepped out the room and headed towards the elevator.
The entire time we were on the elevator and even when we got off, my sister was reciting prayers for me and saying she hoped Cairo didn’t know my secrets and kill us all. I wanted to curse her out but like my mother said, “Today was my day and not to let anyone upset me.”
“This limo is for the bride only.” The chauffeur stated when we stepped out the hotel. I never saw the man before and assumed that’s what he was told.
“I’m her mom and going to ride with her.” My mom attempted to get in before me.
“Like I said, “This limo is for the bride only.” He was more firm in his statement.
“It’s ok. You’ll be right behind and Cairo probably left me a surprise inside.” I kissed her on the cheek and got inside. Nothing was out the norm and just as suspected, there was a small box inside. Hearing the driver’s door closed, I felt a little jerk when he pulled off.
“Mr. Romano has requested for you to open the box before we get to the church.” My eyes met the drivers in the rear-view mirror when he spoke.
“I’m sure he did.” The guy rolled the partition up after sucking his teeth loud enough for me to hear. I couldn’t wait to tell Cairo how disrespectful he was.
The box had weight to it and was wrapped nicely.
Pulling the silver ribbon off the box, I found the opening and lifted the top.
I gasped at the beautiful mini clear dove statue.
In my younger years, I had a fetish for crystals or what some called figurines.
To know Cairo got me one said that he paid attention when I spoke.
“Oh, there’s a note.” Placing the dove gently on the seat, I opened the small envelope to read what was inside.
“This dove stands for peace, purity and love. It could also bring new beginnings which I will have after today.” Who knew Cairo was a romantic? I mean in the beginning, he wined, dined and spoiled me with any and everything. There wasn’t a thing in this world he wouldn’t do for me.
I’m not sure why I decided to cheat when there wasn’t anything lacking. Granted, he would go on week long business trips almost every month but he’d always make up for being gone when he returned. Maybe leaving Glenn alone was in my best interest after all.
“We’re here.” The driver spoke in a sarcastic tone as he opened the door. Instead of entertaining his ignorance, I got out and saw everyone else doing the same.
“What a gorgeous day to accept what things are and let go of what you thought you had.” I looked at the driver as he closed the door. What did he mean by that?
“Good day Miss Samuels.” He shook his head, got in the limo and pulled off. When he did, all the suburbans my bridesmaids and parents got out of did as well.
“This doesn’t look like a packed wedding. Where is everyone?” My dad pointed to the half empty parking lot of the church.
“Maybe they’re running late.” I said, shrugging and not caring.
“It’s about time. Let’s get this party started.” Rosalina said, switching coming down the church stairs. She was Cairo’s sister and we hated one another. She felt I wasn’t good enough for her brother and I felt she needed to mind her business.
“Well don’t you look nice for one last time.” She rolled her eyes after saying it. Every time we were around one another she’d always reference seeing me one last time in hopes her brother would leave me.
“Whatever.” I waved her off and stood there allowing my mom and sister to flare the bottom part of my dress out.
As we headed towards the front door, I saw security all around the church and some standing at the door. At least I knew he was inside and didn’t leave me at the altar.
The closer I got; butterflies formed in my stomach. He had that effect on me regardless of stepping out with another man.
Who knew after five years of being with the same man, we’d meet walking down the aisle and I’d get his last name. The amount of power I was about to have and oh, the money he’d put in my bank account had me fantasizing on what I’d buy, who I’d fire and so forth.
“Congratulations.” I stopped short just as I crossed the threshold of the church. All the bridesmaids were in and the only person standing next to me was my dad.
“Get the hell outta here. You already ruined her life by sticking your dick in her.” My dad shouted.
“Daddy!” I couldn’t believe he said that to Glenn. I knew for a fact someone heard him.
“I just came to say congratulations and to see if you would do it.” Glenn kissed my cheek and walked the other way.
I didn’t have time to ask questions because the doors opened and to my surprise, the only side filled with people was mine.
Where was Cairo’s family, friends, acquaintances and constituents?
I didn’t care not to see cars in the parking lot but now that I’m inside, it did seem quite weird for no one to be here for him.
“You know my family don’t like you so don’t ask why they’re not here.” Rosalina said, pushing past me to take a seat.
“Don’t worry about her. Let’s get you married so that I can have a drink.” My dad patted the top of my hand.
As the music started to play, Cairo turned around and my heart started to race. I was about to marry the man of my dreams and have everything a woman could wish for. Goodbye Miss Samuels and hello, Mrs. Romano.
Taking a deep breath, I followed my father’s lead down the aisle and to my future husband.
