Chapter 4 #2

“All the women I know still take pride in their looks whether their home or not. Legs ashy as hell, feet got crust on the heels, the polish damn near gone on her toes and fingernails. And Bugs Bunny would be ashamed she not repping buck teeth well.” The other guy was bent over laughing until Sariah cut her eyes at him.

I was so mad because I literally bit my nails off two days ago to let them breathe.

I wanted a new set but decided to give it some time first. The crust on my heels were my fault because I didn’t have any more foot lotion and the polish was falling off.

I planned on getting them done at the same time I redid my nails.

My legs were ashy because I’m in my house and didn’t feel like putting lotion on. He didn’t know that and I wasn’t telling him shit either. Now my teeth would eventually be a work in progress. However, I’ve never had anyone play in my face the way he did.

“Listen here, Cairo or whatever your name is.” I finally found the courage to respond.

“I may not be one of those fake women you’re used to but I’m 100% real.

I don’t need your approval or anyone else’s and trust me, you’re not the first or the last to throw out insults.

I’m used to it so keep them coming and watch them bounce off like the rest of the bullshit you said already.

” Sariah and her friend looked at me, then Cairo, and back at me.

“And another thing, I know your mother taught you better than to walk in someone’s house unannounced.

Barging up in here like you don’t have no home training.

” Cairo didn’t say a word. I was very careful with my words in order not to offend him.

Not that I should care but he scared me from the moment he walked in.

“I can see you have some money just by the way you pulled up here and those expensive clothes and sneakers.” I’m not sure if his entire apparel was expensive but the Tom Ford glasses and Balmain outfit said he had some sort of wealth.

“You need to take some etiquette classes on how to speak to women. Again, I know your mother taught you, that if you don’t have nothing nice to say then don’t say nothing at all.

” Folding my arms across my chest as if I did something, my heart began to race again and my stomach was turning as he got in my face.

“I respect the fact you spoke up but don’t get it twisted.

You still need a full body makeover, my mother taught me very well and I know how to speak to a woman when she’s in my presence.

Since I only see a complainer who didn’t take pride in her appearance or apartment, there was no need to be nice. ”

“Cairo, I know you didn’t come for me.” I wanted to smack Sariah for thinking he was calling her a complainer when she knew it was me he was taking about. Why didn’t she say come for us? And he wasn’t even talking to her.

“You good Sariah because one thing my family won’t do is fuck with a busted bitch.” His eyes were once again burning a hole in me.

“Get your life together, clean yourself up and I may take you over to the corner store to grab some chips and candy since wearing Hello Kitty pajamas and eating is what you do all day.” He pointed to the mess I had on the coffee table.

Sariah and I were having fun pigging out and here he was making it a bad thing.

“Move.” He mushed me on the forehead on the way out my apartment. I fell back hitting the metal piece on the doorframe.

“I’ll see you in a few.” Raul yanked Sariah’s hair back and stuck his tongue in her mouth.

This bitch had the nerve to moan. Sucking my teeth, I moved out the way and rolled my eyes.

I couldn’t even slam the door since he kicked it off.

Storming in my room, I stopped short seeing the covers on my bed messed up.

“I know damn well you didn’t fuck him in here.” Sariah started laughing as I removed the cover. They weren’t in here long but people did have quickies.

“I would never do that but he did give me head.” I turned to look at her.

“What? I grabbed one of the towels first and put it on the bed.” As mad as I wanted to be, I couldn’t. Last year me and my man at the time were at her house chilling and had sex on her bed.

“Whatever.” I snatched the blanket off and walked them into the small area we had the washer and dryer in.

“I’m sorry about all of this Kat.” That was the nickname my mom gave me as a kid.

“It’s fine.”

“No it’s not. Raul had no business kicking in the door.” Putting the soap powder in the washer, I listened to her say how he was sending someone over to fix it and that it won’t happen again, as long as she answered his calls when she’s here. They were both on some bullshit and I was over it.

Walking into the living room, two men were standing there with a brand new door along with tools, a small work bench and saw.

“How the hell did he get them here so fast and where did they get a door from?” Sariah shrugged her shoulders and went to sit on the couch.

As the men fixed the door, all I could think about was the Cairo guy and how rude he was.

His words were harsh yet he told no lies about my appearance.

He didn’t have to say a word but it was what it was.

It had me feeling some kind of way and from now on I will keep myself up even if I am at home because you never knew who would come over.

“All done ladies.” The two men spoke after about an hour. I thanked them and handed each one a ten dollar bill.

“Thanks but the cost was more than ten dollars.” Sariah jumped off the couch and walked over to where we were.

“We thought Raul paid.”

“No. Senor said, the ladies will pay and don’t accept any money from the one with braids.” Right then we both knew Raul was being smart.

Sariah had micro braids put in last week because we were going to the Cayman Islands in two weeks.

She didn’t want to get them right before we left because it hurt and she didn’t want to have headaches the entire time.

We were going to celebrate me becoming a phlebotomist and lab technician which were two different positions.

The phlebotomist takes the blood and prepares the samples for the lab.

The technician actually performs the analysis on blood and other bodily fluids.

My goal was to become a manager at the lab I’m currently working at and eventually open a free clinic for patients who can’t afford health care.

Blood work is expensive and people won’t get it done due to not having insurance which could be fatal.

Opening a clinic would help and the tests could be done there too.

“How much for the door?” Instead of arguing or waiting for Sariah to ask Raul why he didn’t pay, I grabbed the credit card out my purse.

I barely used cards due to the interest rate but it was an emergency.

Once I paid the $500, not only was I pissed but ready to call it a night.

The price was steep because it was last minute, a hard-core door of some sort, the labor, and I had to pay for the doorknobs.

“I’m sorry Kat. I sent the money to your phone.” Sariah started grabbing her things to leave.

“What’s wrong and why did you send me the money? You know I’m not mad at you.” Sariah had a way of being upset and not saying a word. She’d just leave and call the next day like nothing happened. It was how she coped with things and I’ve never said a word.

“It’s not that. I’m just pissed that I fell in love with an asshole.

I mean he broke the door but I’m paying for it.

The same way I’m paying for my tires having to be fixed after the bitch flattened my tires that night at the bar.

Or the fact I have to find a way not to black out over a man who doesn’t want to call me his woman but made threats on my life if I mess with anyone else.

” Sariah was now crying harder and it made me angry.

I wasn’t going to add my two cents tonight about how I felt but I would tomorrow.

I told Sariah to go lay down in my room, and I’d be in shortly. My mom would be home and the house was a mess. After straightening up, ordering us some dinner and making my bed, me and Sariah ate and watched a few movies before dosing off. I’m hoping for a better outcome tomorrow.
