Chapter 8
Kateri
Seeing that little girl crying her eyes out had me feeling some kind of way. I’m not sure why Cairo had a gun jammed down her throat and I didn’t care. It had to be a reason for him to do something that drastic but I wanted him to remove it because of how terrified the girl was.
People were staring and there was no doubt in my mind that if he was that bold in pulling a gun out, he’d definitely pull the trigger. In my head, telling him to stop he would but that backfired.
“Cairo, she’s young and I’m sure she’s sorry for whatever she did.” My hand was still resting on his arm.
“Bitch if you don’t get your got damn hand off me, I’ll shoot it off.” He snapped making me remove it. As much as I wanted to go back and forth with him, now wasn’t the time but he was definitely going to hear my mouth later.
“Come on Cairo. I’m sure she’ll never talk shit again.” Raul said and the girl was shaking her head. Snatching the gun out her mouth, I looked down and gasped seeing two teeth on the ground.
“Watch your fucking mouth next time you see me.” The girl stood there holding her mouth to stop the bleeding but it was seeping through her hands.
“Brandy! What the hell did you do now?” A man stormed over with anger on his face. He looked at the girl, then Cairo, then the girl again.
“I’m sorry for whatever she did Mr. Romano.” The man wrapped his arm around her and was about to walk away until we all heard a cracking sound. Looking down, Raul busted out laughing.
“Looks like you won’t be saving those teeth.” Another guy I didn’t know said, laughing next to Raul. What was wrong with these men? Why would they think it was funny about a girls’ teeth falling out and being stepped on?
“Let’s go.” The man rushed her off and you could hear him cursing. From what he said walking away, that wasn’t the first time she got in some shit. It was the first time someone almost killed her though.
Turning around to go towards the elevator which was where I was headed coming inside before seeing Cairo hem that girl up, my body was yanked in the opposite direction. My arm felt like it was about to be disconnected from my shoulder by the person’s strength.
“Don’t ever put your damn hands on me again or interrupt me when I’m busy.
” Cairo barked, towering over me with his sexy ass.
That dark caramel complexion that could make him pass for Spanish, Dominican or even Indian turned me on.
He had long hair pull back in a ponytail and I wanted to put my mouth on his juicy and suckable lips.
Like most men, he had tattoos coming from under his T-shirt and all over his arms.
You could tell he was muscular and worked out by his physique and I swear his baritone voice would make any woman beg to go home with him.
Everything about Cairo was sexy, except his damn attitude and reckless mouth.
I could stare and fantasize about him all day but once he opened his mouth, I wanted to punch him in it but knew better.
If he damn near killed that young girl and pulled her teeth out with the tip of his gun, I knew damn well he’d do me worse so for now, I’ll try and stay quiet.
“I apologize Cairo.” I could respect that part of what he said because I should’ve been minding my business since it had absolutely nothing to do with me.
“The girl was scared and—” His rude ass cut me right off.
“And it wasn’t your business nor was she a family member. If you ever do that again, I’ll make sure your mother and brother don’t wake up the next day.” He went to walk off and I couldn’t hold my tongue.
“Hold up motherfucker.” Why did I call him a name? Realizing I fucked up by saying that when he turned around with slits in his eyes, I slapped my hand over my mouth and tried to go towards the stairwell. For all of five seconds, I felt safe until my shirt was pulled so hard my body hit the floor.
“You got a slick ass mouth for somebody who cleaned themselves up to come here.” Oh no he didn’t.
I attempted to stand but stopped when his sneaker pressed down on one of my hands.
Holding in my cry to show him the pain wasn’t bothering me, he smirked before lifting his foot up and slamming it down harder.
“I’m not a regular type of nigga.” He removed his foot off my hand.
“If I need to have a conversation with you again, you won’t survive it.
” Was that a threat? Did he really just stomp on my hand like that?
” Watching him leave, I balled my shirt up and screamed loud as hell in it.
Not only was my hand in hella pain but me and my family’s life was threatened, as well as the fact I couldn’t respond the way I wanted.
After sitting there for what felt like forever, I stared down at my hand and realized it was swollen and two of my nails were off. Granted, they were press on ones which I’m happy about because if not, they’d be bleeding.
Managing to get up, I snatched up my two nails and put them in my pocket.
We had another week to be here and once the swelling goes down on my hand, I’m going to try and put them back on.
Say what you want but I got these online for $25 and I had to pay shipping and handling.
I refuse to waste money so if I can put them back on, I will.
And besides, I only brought this one pack so there wasn’t a match and I highly doubt the Cayman Islands had press on nails in their stores.
“Girl! Where the hell you been?” Sariah yelled, coming down the hallway. We were supposed to go walk that seven mile beach for her to get exercise and for me to just enjoy the scenery. I came down before her to grab something from their snack area and saw Cairo about to kill that girl.
“Down here trying to save some girls life and that maniac damn near broke my hand.” I showed it to her and we both gasped because it turned black and blue just that fast.
“Never approach Cairo unless he wants you to and I should take you to the hospital. Your hand looks either fractured or broken. Did you fall?” She was a tad bit late telling me not to approach Cairo unexpectedly, especially since I did at my house and didn’t get the same reaction as today.
Then again, it was my place and he can’t tell me not to speak. Although he did and for a moment I was quiet but started talking shit back to him when he came for my appearance. Who would’ve thought by trying to calm him down he’d try and take my hand off; literally?
“No I didn’t fall and it’s a fine time to tell me.” As we got on the elevator to go and grab our things and take the trip over to the hospital, someone’s hand kept it from closing. Sucking my teeth when Raul stepped on, Sariah gave me a look. The doors closed with him still on.
“Let her keep it up with that attitude and I’m sure Cairo won’t mind breaking the other hand or getting rid of her.”
“Babe, she didn’t deserve whatever happened and…” He cut her off by slobbing her down. Holding my hand with the other, I wanted to gag. He was being funny and all of us knew it. When the doors opened, I stormed down the hall and stopped short seeing the hotel room door opened.
“Get your stupid ass in here so he can check your hand.” I know damn well Cairo wasn’t in my room.
How the hell did he get up here that fast; better yet, how did he get inside?
Moving slowly into the room, my body was jerked again and placed in one of the chairs at the table.
Some guy was standing there with a small machine and a white jacket.
“He’s gonna take a few X-rays on your hand. Not that I give a fuck if it’s broke or not because you deserved it but my pops said it had to be done.” That man really didn’t give a shit about what came out his mouth.
“Gee thanks and tell your dad thank you for me.” The guy that I’m assuming was a doctor gently placed my hand on the machine and after twenty minutes of testing and the doctor looking, it was confirmed that my hand was indeed broken.
Some of the bones were cracked and the swelling and bruising would last a long time.
Lucky for me, I didn’t require a hospital visit because evidently Cairo travels not only with his family but a medical team for emergencies.
That same doctor had me follow him down to a room on the first floor that held more portable medical equipment, a MRI machine that showed exactly what was broken, as well as the doctor waking me up after surgery.
I had no idea where I was because after seeing the room with all the medical stuff inside, some woman offered me a drink and next thing I knew, I woke up with a cast on my arm from the middle of my arm covering my entire wrist.
All of it shocked the hell out of me and also let me know Cairo was exactly who he thought he was and it was better to keep my mouth shut around him.
If that man could bring a full medical team along with surgeons and equipment overseas, he not only had money but held some kind of power.
Men like that were bad for anyone’s health and I’m glad me and him have a mutual dislike for one another.
“Here are some pain medicines that you could take tomorrow. Your body still has anesthesia inside and some morphine.” Hearing the doctor speak gave me a peace of mind, yet still had no idea how I was here for vacation and ended up having surgery and a cast.
“About time you woke up.” Sariah was on the other side of me.
“The driver is outside waiting for us.” Completely confused, I laid there thinking she was mistaken with her words. I just had surgery and now she’s telling me that we have to leave.
“I’ll explain at the hotel. Right now we have to go before Cairo gets back.” Sariah removed the covers off my legs, lifted me up and tried to help me off the table. My legs were too weak and yet here she was rushing me.
“Sariah, I have to wait for the anesthesia to wear off. What’s…. wrong…. with you?” My words were stuttering because I was trying to talk and the medicine was still heavily in my system. My head was spinning and I couldn’t move on my own.
“Young lady what are you doing?” I heard a voice just as Sariah moved her hands and let me fall back.
“Ahhhhh!” I screamed. My head hit the bed hard since no pillow was there and my hand felt pain as well because it hit the side of the bed where the railing was. Both of my legs were hanging and had the woman not ran over and caught me, I’d be on the floor.
“I was trying to take my friend out of here before Cairo returned.” The woman helped me get comfortable and yelled at Sariah to grab the pillow off the ground.
“Your friend was in no condition to leave and we both know it. She can’t walk, move on her own and from what I heard; barely talk. What is wrong with you?” The woman had her hands on her hips staring at Sariah.
“I’m sorry but Cairo—” She cut Sariah off mid-sentence.
“Who cares what my son thinks? It’s his fault that she had to come here so it’s his responsibility to take care of her.” When she mentioned him being her son, everything in me wanted to get up and leave but I couldn’t. All I could do was let my eyes continue to close like they were.
“Where am I?” My eyes fluttered and opened to darkness. The window shed a little peek of sunlight from outside but not enough to see anything.
Click! The light in the room came on. Slowly lifting myself on the bed to sit up and see who was in here, my eyes stared at some young woman. I’m not gonna lie; her beauty intimidated the hell out of me.
She was brown skinned with glowing skin against that shed of sunlight.
Her hair was up in a wrapped up ponytail but you could tell by the texture that it was long.
Her shape was perfect for a woman and didn’t appear to be a BBL or showing any signs of surgery.
Her face was pretty and there weren’t any signs of makeup or fake eyelashes yet from a distance, you could mistake her for having it on.
The woman reminded me of those gorgeous brown skinned naked women in magazines whose body’s are covered but their beauty overshadowed the entire picture.
I felt ugly, fat and ashamed to be here at the moment.
What if she were Cairo’s wife or girlfriend and here to make sure I’m a mess?
With all the thoughts running through my head, I had no idea he stepped in until his voice gave me an instant headache.
“When the fuck you leaving?”
