Chapter 25 #2
My mom kept crying and saying she was glad my father was dead and not here trying to take credit. That was weird for me to hear, especially when I had no clue if he was dead or not. He never came around, sent money or called so me and Mike didn’t care about him.
Cairo’s dad told him that he better not do what he did with his ex, yet refused to elaborate on it when I asked. Then again, Cairo did get agitated after it was brought up. Everyone else was very happy and congratulated us a million times.
Once they all left, Cairo had the doctor discharge me. In a way I was happy but then I wasn’t. My mom and brother still lived at home and what if the person went after them. He’s gonna be mad when I ask him to take me home.
“Take this ride with me.” Cairo demanded coming out the shower with a towel wrapped around his waist. Rolling over in the bed to look at him, I had to stop myself from asking for more sex. Last night was the first time since the shooting and I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it.
The night we left the hospital; I asked him to take me home. When he asked why and I explained how scared I was for my family, he swore that nothing would happen to them. Well, Mike may get his ass whooped by the guys but they won’t kill him. That did not make me feel better.
Long story short, for the last week since I’ve been discharged, I haven’t left his house.
He had the physical therapist come and requested for me to see a regular therapist after the shooting just to make sure I wasn’t traumatized.
He really made me feel safe and I let him know not to blame himself for the shooting.
Knowing how he felt about me, I wouldn’t dare assume he’d put me in any sort of danger.
My mother called every day to ask if I were ok and pregnant.
I had to start telling her to wait for me to call just to get a break.
“I don’t wanna Cairo. I’m tired and sleepy.” He chuckled and sat next to me on the bed.
“You can sleep all day tomorrow. I really need for you to come with me.” All he had to do was smile and a bitch agreed.
“I need to find out why that smile can make me do anything you ask.” He tossed the covers off and helped me out of bed. I was getting better at walking but with some of the fragments still inside, the pain is sporadic and I’d have to sit.
He said I can have surgery to get the rest removed after our first child.
We still haven’t found out if I’m pregnant or not yet because I’m scared.
What if something was wrong with the baby?
His mom said there wasn’t even a child yet so the baby would be fine.
She also gave me an ultimatum that if I didn’t get a test by next week, she was sending a doctor over to find out.
My mom said she was coming that day as well to find out.
It was crazy that both of our moms were waiting for me to get pregnant.
All I can say is if I’m not, I probably am now.
After showering and getting dressed, Cairo helped me down the stairs like always and took me to the car.
He claimed that the place was about a half hour away and had what he wanted to talk about before the shooting.
Not sure what he meant, I relaxed myself in the back seat next to him and waited until we got there.
“We’re here.” He patted the top of my thigh because I fell asleep. Looking out the window, I had no idea where we were. My side of the door opened, Cairo put his hand out for me to hold and made sure I didn’t fall getting out.
The place had a few stores in the front but we were headed to the side.
It appeared to be apartments at the top that had at least six or seven floors and the parking lot was full of cars.
What did he have to show me? I knew it wasn’t a new building for me to start a business because as much as I wanted to be my own boss, mentally I wasn’t ready.
“Step inside.” Cairo opened the side door, pressed some button that opened another door leading into an elevator. From the outside it camouflaged as a wall so no one would know.
“This is weird.” He pressed a button that read, BB. When I asked what it meant, he said Below Basement. Now why would we be going below a basement? Did that mean he was taking me there to kill me? I held his hand tight and closed my eyes to pray this wasn’t my last day on earth.
“Let’s go.” The elevator door opened and there was a guy sitting in a security booth. There were a few chairs, a table, coffee maker and some snacks in a vending machine.
“Hey Boss. Ms. Coleman.” The guy spoke and went back to reading whatever book was in his hand. Cairo used a key card to open the steel door behind him.
“How did he know my name?”
“Everyone knows who you are now.” He pecked my lips as he held the door for me to enter. Once it closed, there was a noise and the door on the opposite side opened.
“About damn time you got here. Rosalina been calling for the last hour asking where were you and what’s taking me so long to get her food.” Felix complained, walking towards us.
“Kateri wanted some dick first.” I swung my head at Cairo.
“That’s what I’m tryna do with your sister but you taking forever to get here.” Cairo turned his face up. That’s what he gets for saying what I wanted.
“Let’s get this shit over with.” Cairo said, pressing a button that lifted a wall showing a woman with her head down.
“Remember when I mentioned having to tell you something?” I shook my head yes walking slowly toward the woman. I’m not sure what made me but there was something familiar about the chick.
“Kateri.” He called my name as I got closer to the woman.
“Hold on.” He tried to get my attention again but I had to see if the woman was who I thought she was.
“What the hell?” I gasped when the woman lifted her head. Turning in Cairo’s direction, Felix was shaking his head and saying, “I told you to tell her.”
“Let me explain.” Cairo started walking towards me.
“I would love to hear why you have my fucking sister Victoria down here.”
