Chapter 80 A Walk
The evening had come and gone, and it had turned out really well.
It was nice having everyone together, and Reiya loved being able to act like a couple with Lee.
They were all very receptive about her and Xander.
They were more curious than anything. So was Reiya.
She didn’t know everything she and Xander were capable of, just what she was told by the Moon Goddess.
The next morning, she woke up with her head on Lee’s chest. She couldn’t describe just how safe and comfortable she felt with his arms wrapped around her.
“Reiya, I’m going to try working another angle with the deities.
With you and Xander being the Gemini twins, this will be important for them to know.
Your souls are special and must be protected,” Lee said quietly, nuzzling closer to her.
Honestly, the more he thought about it, her being his mate could really work.
Having a deity around constantly to protect the Gemini twins would be a big bonus.
Their existence was important, after all.
Reiya smiled and pressed into him. “How did you know I was awake? I didn’t even move.”
“I could tell by your quickening heart rate,” he answered, his smile hidden in her hair.
She turned her head and looked into his captivating eyes. “How about you just let yourself get captured by the fairy princess? I’ll keep you around as my personal slave.”
“Is that right? Your personal slave? Does that include being your sex slave?” Lee said lowly, near her face.
“Eh, maybe, when I get desperate for male attention,” Reiya teased into his lips.
“You really think you’d be able to capture me?”
“Haven’t I already?”
Lee chuckled. “Indeed, you have.” He closed the small gap between them, kissing her deeply, reaching his hand up to gently cup her face.
Very slowly, he dipped his tongue into her mouth and began to gently massage hers.
He lightly traced his hand over her side as he continued to taste her.
He did completely belong to her. They just needed the other deities to recognize it as well.
He slowly pulled away from the deepening kiss before it led to more. He had things he had to do today.
“Do you have to leave now?” Reiya asked quietly. She enjoyed his company yesterday and was already feeling lonely thinking about him being gone.
“I do. I didn’t show up at all yesterday, and I really need to get this stuff resolved for us.” Lee sat up, pulling her up with him. “I’ll be back tonight, hopefully with good news.”
Reiya kissed his jaw line tenderly. “Okay, we’re playing cards tonight with everyone. Don’t forget.”
Lee chuckled as he stood up to get dressed. “I don’t think you’re going to let anyone forget about tonight’s plans.”
She giggled, getting up with him. She watched him change into his clothes, admiring her mate’s body.
“Quit looking at me like that, or I’m going to have to take you straight back to bed.” Lee looked at her with amusement in his eyes. He loved how she openly showed how much she also wanted him.
“That wouldn’t ruin my plans at all.” She gave him a wry smile, to which he chuckled lowly.
“I promise, once all this is settled, you’ll be the one battling me off.” He walked up to her and kissed her forehead. “For now, my little kitten, I promise to treat you well tonight. Stay safe. Keep your distance, and don’t forget to wear one of my shirts.”
“Don’t worry about me. I have an army looking out for my well-being. Meanwhile, I have a bloodthirsty wolf who is ready for action.” Reiya sighed in mild annoyance.
“Good. It takes an army to look after you. Bloodthirsty wolf or not, I don’t want you fighting. Love you, my sweet fairy.” He gently prodded her nose and reluctantly left.
Reiya watched as he vanished in front of her.
She let out a soft sigh and went to get ready for the day.
This would be her first day being fully mated without Lee.
It was the first day of having her wolf, knowing Lee is also her mate, and not having Lee near her.
Yep, this was going to be torture. It had only been a few minutes, and she already missed him.
The mate pull was so strong, demanding that she be near her mate.
They were stronger together, and nature knew what it was doing by making the pull so powerful.
It was an act of self-preservation, one that she had to fight off all day.
Reiya walked out of her room and was greeted by Chelsie and Brody. She met with their eyes, hers a bit more dull than usual. “Aww, Reiya, your face looks so sad today,” Chelsie pouted, looking at her friend’s face.
“Levi had to leave today, huh?” Brody gave her a crooked grin as he took a big bite of his sandwich.
Reiya rolled her eyes at Brody. “Mind your business and keep eating your sandwich.”
“Ouch. Ray Ray is grouchy today.” Brody frowned and solemnly nibbled on his sandwich.
Reiya giggled. “Okay, okay, Brody. But you did start it.”
“Do we want to watch some movies today?” Chelsie asked, looking around the room.
“I wouldn’t mind going for a walk. I don’t think that’ll be a problem. I’ll just let Xander know with our fancy, new mindlink,” Reiya said in a show-off tone.
Xander … do you copy? Over. Reiya giggled a bit over her silliness.
Wow … that was lame, Reiya. That was like a dad joke … gross. Xander smirked as he replied to her.
Just for that, I’m not telling you of my plans.
What plans?
Wouldn’t you like to know? This time Reiya was the one smirking.
Alright, I’m sorry princess. What are you planning? Xander swallowed his pride and admitted defeat with an apology.
Now that’s better. Anyway, I want to go for a walk. Nothing big. Just to get some fresh air. That shouldn’t be a problem, right?
No, it won’t be. Dex and Weston will be joining you. Mason, the girls, and I are stuck in this dumb unity luncheon. I will come see you after it’s done, though.
Dex and Weston don’t have to join me. I really don’t need a group for a small walk, Reiya protested lightly. She knew she wouldn’t win, but it was ridiculous.
I know you don’t need it. But I’ll feel better, and I’m sure your mate will, too.
Whatever. I’m not waiting for them, so I guess it depends on if they find me. She heard Xander chuckle in her head.
Okay, Reiya. Good luck with that. He smiled as he felt her close the link. She was like an annoying little sister, always trying to get her way. Or at least always looking for the loophole.
“Okay, let’s get moving. We have to hurry or we’re going to get stuck with goons following us around.” Reiya sprinted toward the stairs, her two guardians hot on her heels.
Brody was quickly scarfing the rest of his food, eating on the run. When did I order fast food?
“What do you mean goons? Who are the goons?” Chelsie was laughing as she chased after Reiya. She didn’t mind her leaving without extra guards. She and Brody would be with Reiya, and she would be perfectly safe with them.
Reiya giggled as she swung the door open to the bottom of the stairs. She turned back to look at Chelsie and “Ooof”.
Reiya looked up to see who she had collided with. She was met with Dex’s smile, and right off to his side was Weston, grinning widely.
“Trying to ditch us, huh?” Weston chuckled and winked at Reiya.
“How did you guys get here so fast?” Reiya pouted as she straightened herself back up.
“Xander asked us to stick around here in case you decided to wander out. Then he let us know you were going to try to ditch us and wanted to make sure we were still in position,” Dex said, grinning down at the mischievous girl.
Brody was laughing lightly, and the two girls looked back at him. “If you weren’t so busy racing down the steps, I could have told you they were down here waiting. Xander let me know this morning.”
Reiya sighed. The chess board had its pieces strategically placed long before she decided to play.
She was set up to lose, since it seemed like they already knew what her next move was.
Okay, she could admit she tended to wander off on her own from time to time.
Still, she hated that she had become so predictable.
Dex was still grinning down at her. “We’re going for a walk?” Dex extended his arm and watched Reiya give him a minor glare as she took it.
“How are you two stuck being on duty? Where’s Reese at?” Reiya was a bit annoyed, knowing she could have given Reese the slip.
“He’s been out on patrols around the perimeter of the territory. He along with some others are making sure no one is coming near the line.” Dex looked down at Reiya and watched her nod slightly. “Aww, don’t be so glum. You can still have fun with us.”
Reiya’s lips curled upward. She was being rude and making them feel unwanted. They were her friends, too, and she did enjoy their company. “I’m sure you two are down for getting into some trouble, right?”
“Hey, no trouble young lady. I’m done with the trouble train,” Brody snorted behind her, his arm linked with Chelsie’s. He wanted to just take a normal walk. Normal. One that didn’t lead to certain doom or getting into some sort of trouble.
Reiya shrugged and turned her head to give him a playful wink. She wasn’t planning on any trouble. She just wanted to mess with her brother’s head.
It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining brightly on them as they walked around the grounds.
The sky was a bright blue, with hardly a cloud in sight.
But as their luck would have it, there was a slight commotion near the edge of the woods.
Some wyverns and a hydra were screeching at each other.
Reiya remembered the large group she had seen before. These ones must also be seeking refuge.
She watched as a couple of men started stoning the poor creatures and gasped. They were only seeking refuge. There was no need to be cruel. They had come there for safety and were being mistreated. Before she could say anything, Weston immediately stormed toward them.
“Hey!” Weston yelled, stopping the men from throwing another rock. “What do you think you’re doing?” There was a low growl in his voice. The playful, fun Weston had turned into a predator. His eyes flickered over the men, waiting for their response.
“They are in the way and annoying. We want them out of here,” the other man sighed in frustration.
“Who gave you the right? Who told you that it was okay to stone our cousins?” Weston snarled at the men.
“They are such lesser creatures than us. They can’t even speak,” the other man grumbled out lowly.
Reiya was shocked at how these men dared to speak to Weston. She looked up at Dex, whose jaw was set. He was clearly gritting his teeth in anger.
“What do you mean they can’t speak?” Reiya shot out angrily.
“Just because they don’t speak with your words doesn’t mean they don’t communicate.
It’s just a different language.” All creatures communicated in some way.
It was just a matter of paying attention and reading the signs.
Reiya’s nose twitched slightly, and her blue eyes glowed at the two men.
Her heart rate began to pick up as she began to realize something.
The two men looked at Reiya, their gaze fixated on her as a slight glaze went over their eyes. The look they were giving her was a bit intense. Reiya didn’t know who these men were, but she could feel their contempt for her. There was something off about them.
Reiya’s eyes widened. She glanced back toward Brody and Chelsie, then back at the two men. These men were different. They had a slightly different smell about them. They smelled of … demons.
