Epilogue

A Few Months Later

Freddie watched as Daisy explained—in an overly dramatic way—how they’d found the bunker entrance to their classmates.

They were in the field they’d explored that one night, waiting to go into the bunker for their class trip. After a few months of cleaning and organizing and a bunch of other things, it was finally ready for the students and other clan members to visit.

As Daisy mimicked Freddie’s dragon lifting the slab and revealing the stairs, he smiled.

His dragon spoke up. I wish she would’ve asked us to shift so I could help her re-enact it all.

That would’ve been a lot of coordination and trouble, with the entire class here. Besides, this is Daisy’s moment.

I suppose.

And they did take a picture of us in our dragon form, standing next to Daisy and the entrance, for the clan’s newspaper and that archaeologist guy, Max something.

It’d been kind of a blur in the days after being rescued from the storage room.

Max and Lavinia, two super-famous archaeologists who studied dragon-shifter stuff, had come and asked Daisy what clues she’d used to find the bunker.

They’d also photographed everything, and had wanted Freddie’s dragon form to pose with Daisy for a picture as well.

Freddie had been reluctant at first since he didn’t like getting a lot of attention, but Daisy had so wanted to get the picture and he hadn’t been able to say no to her. After all, she’d said, they would become part of clan history forever with that picture.

After that, a lot of adults had been coming and going to the bunker, readying it for others to visit.

It’d take more time to make displays and signs, like in other historical places, but Freddie didn’t care about that.

He just wanted to see the room that had been used for dragon exercise times.

Because apparently, there had been a massive space constructed underground for that.

Daisy’s voice caught his attention as she said, “Freddie! Come on! Let’s show them what happened next!”

She motioned for him to come over. The entire class, along with Mr. MacLeod and a few parent chaperones, looked at him.

He barely paid them attention as he looked at Daisy’s smiling face, full of excitement.

His dragon spoke up. You promised to help her today. So, go do it.

Not wanting to argue with his beast that he hadn’t agreed to be a tour guide, he walked over to Daisy. She grabbed his hand and gently tugged.

And as they went down the stairs, hand-in-hand, to relive their adventure with the other students, he hoped they would have many more to come. Because a boring future without Daisy was one he didn’t like.
