Chapter 2

When Aurora opened her eyes, she expected to find herself in hell, ready to pay for the countless sins she had committed. Instead, she found herself staring into the gentle eyes of a woman whose warm smile radiated love and comfort.

The woman carefully cradled her, whispering soothing words as though Aurora was the most precious thing in the world.

A moment later, a man entered the room carrying a bouquet of flowers. The joy on his face was unmistakable. Aurora assumed he was the woman's husband—and her father.

"She's beautiful, Sarah. Just like her mother," the man said, his voice filled with pride and wonder.

Sarah laughed softly. "Then you'll have your hands full, Mike. One day we'll have boys lining up at our doorstep."

Mike groaned dramatically. "Let's not think about that yet."

Sarah smiled as she looked down at the tiny infant in her arms, "Aurora. Like the Northern Lights—the spark that has entered our lives. What do you think, Mike? Should we keep the name or change it?"

"Aurora," Mike repeated, his eyes softening. "It's perfect. Only an artist like you could come up with something so beautiful. I wonder who she'll take after."

As Aurora listened to their voices, she felt a strange warmth spread through her tiny body.

It had been a long time since anyone had spoken to her with such affection.

In her previous life, she had been surrounded by servants, nobles, and scheming aristocrats, yet she had rarely experienced genuine love.

For the first time in what felt like an eternity, Aurora felt safe.

As the years passed, Aurora learned that she had been reborn into a world far different from the one she had once known.

Her mother, Sarah, was a renowned artist whose paintings and sculptures were admired throughout the country. Her father, Mike, was a family physician who dedicated his life to helping others.

Unlike the nobles Aurora remembered from her previous life, her parents measured success not by wealth, influence, or titles, but by kindness and hard work.

By the age of five, Aurora had already shown signs of inheriting talents from both sides of her family.

She loved accompanying her father whenever he travelled to small rural communities to provide free medical care. These outreach programs were organized by High City Hospital, and whenever Mike volunteered, Sarah and Aurora would join him.

The first time Aurora accompanied her father, she witnessed something that left a lasting impression on her heart.

A young child had been brought to the temporary clinic. The boy was painfully thin, his clothes worn and dirty, his face pale from illness. Without hesitation, Mike knelt beside him. He didn't care about the dirt beneath the child's fingernails or the smell of poverty clinging to his clothes.

He simply saw a child who was suffering.

Aurora watched as her father gently examined him, speaking with patience and kindness. The fear in the boy's eyes slowly faded.

Something tightened painfully in Aurora's chest.

In her previous life, she had ruled over a duchy filled with people like this child.

How many had suffered while she was consumed by court politics?

How many had gone hungry while nobles argued over status and influence?

When Mike treated a sick child in one of the rural villages, Aurora couldn't help but compare him to the nobles she had known in her previous life. Men with power had rarely used it to help others. Yet her father spent his days healing strangers without expecting anything in return.

The noblewomen she once admired would never have traded their expensive gowns to help the poor. They cared only about appearances, influence, and gaining favour with those more powerful than themselves.

Looking back now, Aurora felt ashamed. The life she had once been so proud of suddenly seemed hollow and meaningless. For the first time, she truly understood how little power and status mattered when compared to compassion.

As she watched her father save lives, she silently vowed never to waste her second chance.

Sarah often used these trips as inspiration for her artwork, sketching landscapes and capturing the stories of the people they met. Aurora happily followed the volunteers around, carrying supplies and assisting whenever she could.

No one knew the true reason behind Aurora's desire to help others.

The memories of her previous life remained vivid within her.

Every struggling family she met reminded her of the citizens she had once ruled over.

Every grateful smile felt like a small step toward redemption.

Most of all, she was grateful for the opportunity she had been given.

Death should have been the end of her story. Instead, fate had offered her another beginning. Being born into this era opened Aurora's eyes to possibilities she had never imagined. Here, women could study, pursue careers, and build their own futures.

Sometimes she wondered what her first life might have become had she not devoted everything to Lucian.

She had sacrificed years chasing his affection.

She had ignored her own dreams.

She had lost herself.

Never again.

This life would belong to her.

Aurora possessed remarkable talent in sketching, embroidery, and sewing. While others viewed her abilities as natural gifts, no one realized they had been honed through years of training in her previous life, where noblewomen were taught embroidery from childhood.

As she grew older, her love for both medicine and fashion flourished.

After graduating from high school, Aurora chose to follow in her father's footsteps and study medicine. Yet she refused to abandon her passion for design. By her fourth year of medical school, she had enrolled in evening fashion classes as well.

Sarah could not have been happier. Watching Aurora combine creativity and compassion filled her with pride. Whenever people asked about her future, Aurora would smile and answer honestly.

"I want to help people in two ways," she would say. "As a doctor, I can heal their bodies. As a teacher, I can help them learn skills that allow them to build better lives."

Her words always brought tears to Sarah's eyes. Mike would simply place a hand on her shoulder, pride shining in his gaze. Neither parent knew how much those dreams were shaped by the regrets of a woman who had lived another life.

But perhaps they didn't need to know. What mattered was that Aurora had finally found a purpose worth pursuing.

For the first time in two lifetimes, she was walking a path she had chosen for herself. And her parents could not have been prouder of the daughter whose heart shone brighter than any title, crown, or noble name ever could.
