Chapter 28
To Her Grace the Duchess of Wexford,
I understand that you intend to be present at Lady Marwood’s ball on Thursday next. I shall attend also.
Certain questions concerning the administration of the late Earl of Merrow’s estate have remained unresolved for too long. Since private discussion has produced no satisfactory conclusion, I intend to address the matter where there can be no further misunderstanding between us.
I give you notice only because we are family, and because you may prefer to avoid an unpleasant evening.
Merrow.
