Chapter 12 The Frying Pan

The greatest characteristic of the internet is real-time updates.

The moment Kendall posted her replies, netizens who were looking through her TikTok comment section saw them.

She didn't just reply once, and every reply was a direct rebuttal.

Mia's fans immediately took screenshots of Kendall's replies and posted them in their fan groups and fan forums. Other netizens also shared what happened, as people love a good spectacle.

But from the comments of these haters, Kendall was able to piece together the whole story. It seemed that the incident this afternoon where she kicked the Hansen family into the pool had been posted online, causing a public uproar.

Also, someone had spread the news that she had left the Hansen family right after she walked out the door. Kendall opened the Hansen family's official social media account but didn't find any statement.

She did a quick search and found that a few entertainment news outlets had broken the story, specifically emphasizing that she had been kicked out of the Hansen family.

The person who was so eager to distance her from the Hansen family could be none other than Mia.

After rebutting Mia's fans, Kendall didn't care about the storm she had created online. The frustration she had felt for days was now gone, and she felt refreshed as she closed TikTok.

She opened another social media app, the one she had used for a few live streams, and found that its comment section had also been attacked.

However, since this was a vlogging app, the nasty comments weren't as widespread as TikTok and other popular platforms. With a little scrolling, Kendall could still find comments from regular people.

One comment, in particular, caught her attention.

user @BlissPorcelainStore: "My store sells porcelain and is located at 339 Happiness Road, in the Old Business District. If you have time, would you be willing to come to my store and do a promotion?"

All of Kendall's videos were travel clips she had edited. The porcelain store owner must have come across one of her videos and seen that she was in the same city, which is why she left that comment.

But there were hundreds of replies under this comment.

user @IHateMyLife: "Store owner, aren't you being silly? Why would you want to find Kendall for a promotion?"

user @RedMango: "Store owner, I advise you, find someone else."

user @BlissPorcelainStore replied to @IHateMyLife: "Business is getting harder and harder.

Sometimes I don't even get two customers a day.

A few young people suggested I look for a vlogger and said that if I record some videos, it would attract customers.

Those kind-hearted young people even helped me download this app. "

user @BlissPorcelainStore replied to @RedMango: "What's wrong? I think her videos are very nice, and she has a lot of fans."

user @IFailedPhysics: "Woah! Store owner, out of all her fans, ninety-nine percent are haters! They don't count!"

user @MyCatCanDrive: "Listen to me, Auntie, don't find Kendall. I just came across the news that Kendall pushed Mia into the water this afternoon. Mia's fans are furious! If you don't ask for her help, your business will just be bad. If you do, your store might get smashed!"

Underneath, a large group of people were echoing the replies above, warning the Bliss Porcelain Store not to ask Kendall to do a promotion.

The TikTok account Kendall was using was a new one that she had just registered not long ago. The videos she posted were clips she had filmed when she was in university, re-edited and uploaded. Looking at the comment from @MyCatCanDrive, a look of contemplation flashed in Kendall's eyes.

'Smash the store?'

'Are haters really that crazy?'

But this was the first time a business had ever reached out to her, so Kendall took a few more glances at the comments.

'Huh? Happiness Road in the Old Business District?'

'Why does that sound so familiar?'

Kendall pulled out the system in her mind and looked at the list of fugitives on its mission board. Sure enough, she saw the place name under one of the wanted criminals.

Criminal's photo: [picture.jpg]

Criminal's name: Cyrus

Criminal's crime: Main suspect in the 2003 home invasion and robbery case.

Criminal's hideout: Happiness Road, Old Business District

Kendall poked the system in her mind. "If I take on one of these missions, when I'm catching the criminal, will you give me all of his crime information like you did today?"

This afternoon, Robin stabbed a police officer on the street and took a passerby hostage. The moment she saw Robin, his personal information and history of domestic violence suddenly appeared in her mind.

Without that information, and if the suspect wasn't committing a crime, even if the system told her someone was a criminal, Kendall probably wouldn't have been able to act.

The system, which was on duty twenty-four hours a day, immediately replied.

> [New hosts get ten free chances to receive information about criminals. After those ten chances are used up, the host can use points to purchase more or get a chance to draw a lottery prize after completing a mission.]

"A lottery prize?" Kendall raised an eyebrow. "Why didn't you give me a lottery prize for the mission I completed this afternoon?"

The system's voice was weak.

> [Lottery prizes are random drops... you don't get a chance to draw every time you complete a mission...]

"But this was my first time completing a mission!" Kendall said heartbroken, shaking her head. "You're not going to give me a lottery prize to encourage me on my first mission as a new host? That's really going to crush a new host's motivation to do missions!"

The system: "Ah...!"

Hearing Kendall say that, the system felt a little guilty.

> [Well, then. I'll use my own points to give the host a lottery chance.]

"Mm, now that's more like it," Kendall said, nodding in satisfaction. But in her heart, she pondered that the system she was bound to seemed pretty simple and generous, like the stupid son of a wealthy family.

A big lottery wheel appeared in front of Kendall. The system held its now half-empty wallet and, suppressing its feelings of injustice, said in a cheerful voice.

> [Host, press the red button next to it. You only have one chance.]

Kendall raised her hand and pressed it.

The black pointer, which had been still on the wheel, immediately started spinning fast. There were only two prizes on the wheel, merit points and a gift box. The pointer slowly went from fast to slow, passing the merit points and stopping on a blue gift box.

At the same time, Kendall heard the system's happy voice.

> [Congratulations, Host, you have received one weapon, a frying pan.]

Along with the system's voice, a delicate, small frying pan appeared out of thin air in Kendall's hand. Kendall was startled but quickly calmed down. Since a system could appear in her mind out of nowhere, it wasn't surprising for other things to appear as well.

Kendall examined the frying pan in her hand. It was very light and small. Although it didn't seem very useful, it was a system product, and its potential was yet to be discovered. Kendall put it on the bedside table, planning to take it with her tomorrow to test its power.

She put her phone on the bedside table as well. Kendall, who was sitting cross-legged on the bed, fell backward, sinking into the soft mattress. Her long, dark, seaweed-like hair spread out on the pillow. She closed her eyes, her face serene.

Tired, sleepy, time to sleep!

"Good night, system."

> [Good night, Host.]

As the two of them fell into a sweet sleep, a storm was brewing on the internet about Kendall.
