Chapter 72 All The Best
As Kendall headed to the airport, Mia and Liam were also preparing to go to the airport.
Unlike Kendall, who simply took a taxi, Mia and Liam were driven by Leo, accompanied by their mother, Diana, who was seeing them off.
As an artist in the entertainment industry, Mia's travel should normally have included an assistant and an agent. However, the program team was doing something strange. Not only would they be broadcasting 24 hours a day, but they also disallowed any artist from bringing an agent or assistant.
All along the way, Diana worriedly instructed Liam. "I heard this variety show is quite dangerous, son. Once you're on the show, you must control your temper, and help Mia more often."
"Mom, don't worry. I know what to do," Liam interjected.
He had no interest in the entertainment industry and no intention of joining the circle.
If Mia hadn't asked him to, he wouldn't be participating in this variety show.
But since he was, he would naturally look out for Mia and try to get her more screen time.
Diana nodded, looking relieved. Leo, who was driving, suddenly spoke. "When you see Kendall this time, tell her to call me."
As soon as the name Kendall was mentioned, the warm and harmonious atmosphere in the car was instantly frozen, and all three of their faces stiffened.
Liam's brow furrowed immediately, and he voiced his displeasure. "Brother, are you suggesting I should actively talk to her?"
Leo nodded slightly. His handsome features were expressionless, and his eyes were fixed on the road. His emotion was stable, and even his voice was cold and flat. "We are family, after all. It doesn't look right for her to be out there alone."
As the eldest son of the Hansen family, Leo chose to start his own business as a subsidiary of the Hansen Group after graduating from university.
Over the years, Leo's company had achieved decent performance.
A while ago, Leo and his team went abroad to look for new clients, staying overseas for over a month.
When he returned, he discovered one person was missing from the Hansen family. Kendall had run away from home.
Leo had thought about calling Kendall, but when Kendall blocked all contact methods for the Hansen family's members, she had blocked Leo's number as well.
They rarely contacted Kendall proactively and never paid attention to her life or social circle.
It was only after Kendall blocked their phone numbers that they realized they couldn't find her.
Hearing Leo's words, Mia, who had been smiling, also changed her expression, a trace of darkness flashing quickly in her eyes, barely noticeable.
She spoke understandingly. "Brother Liam, don't be upset.
Elder brother is right, Kendall is your biological sister, remember?
I'm the one who took Kendall's place because I exist..
. How about this? When I see Kendall after we start the program, I'll talk to her. "
"So many days have passed. Kendall must have calmed down. I'll apologize to her and ask her to move back home."
As soon as Mia spoke, Liam immediately felt protective. "Mia, you're not an outsider!"
Diana, sitting in the front passenger seat, also looked slightly displeased at her eldest son and said, "Why bring up this topic out of nowhere?"
Leo only mentioned it because he remembered that Kendall was also participating in the program. Seeing that his single sentence had caused general displeasure, Leo softened his tone. "Nothing, I just think it's not good for her to be out there alone."
"What's not good? I see nothing wrong with it," Diana couldn't help but retort. "You didn't see how hysterical she was when she ran back from the hospital that afternoon. The air in the house has been fresher since she left. And it's not like we chased her away. She left on her own!"
"Exactly," Liam, sitting in the back seat, agreed. "She's over twenty and an adult. Does she expect the family to support her for life? When you were her age, you were already running a company and making money."
Mia lowered her head, sitting quietly beside Liam, not participating in the trio's conversation. She only subtly curved her lips when Liam and Diana disparaged Kendall to defend her.
———
The family of four arrived at the airport. Mia had a lot of belongings, with three suitcases alone. Liam, who was also participating in the program, only had one suitcase and one backpack. Mia, carrying her handbag, looked elegant even with a hat and a mask on.
Mia and Diana chatted in the airport hall, while Liam and Leo dragged the luggage to check it in.
Diana meticulously reminded Mia of safety precautions she needed to take while outside, and Mia listened obediently.
Although they were not biological mother and daughter, their relationship seemed even better than one.
Glancing out of the corner of her eye, Mia suddenly caught sight of a familiar figure. She was momentarily startled.
Diana was talking to Mia and noticed her distraction. She subconsciously looked up in the direction Mia was looking. "Mia? What is it?"
"I... I think I just saw Kendall." Mia quickly steadied herself.
It was just a casual glance, but she saw a girl wearing a hat and sunglasses, dragging a suitcase through the crowd.
Her profile and figure strongly resembled Kendall.
However, it was only a brief moment. Before Mia could see clearly, the figure disappeared into the flow of people.
Diana's expression changed upon hearing this. "How could she be here?"
But as she said that, Diana and Mia both simultaneously recalled that Mia and Liam's flight tickets had been uniformly booked by the program team, who then sent them the boarding information.
Jasper had originally planned to board in Orapolis, but then something unexpected happened at his company, and he had to go on a business trip to another city, so he decided last minute to fly from there and meet up with everyone at the destination.
Kendall was in Orapolis and was also a guest on this program. If the program team wanted to save trouble, it was entirely possible they booked her ticket along with theirs!
Thinking of this, both Mia and Diana felt a little irritable.
Leo and Liam finished checking in the luggage and walked over to them. Seeing the two standing face-to-face without speaking, Liam asked curiously, "Mom, Mia, why are you two just standing here?"
Diana frowned slightly. "Nothing..." Liam was carefree. Hearing Diana's reply, he genuinely believed her. Leo, on the other hand, glanced down at Diana and Mia.
Liam looked up at his wristwatch and told Diana and Leo, "It's about time. Mia and I are heading to the waiting lounge. Mom, brother, drive safely on your way back."
"Got it, you two go in quickly," Diana nodded, but couldn't help but remind him. "Remember to protect your sister well on the program."
Liam readily agreed. "Don't worry!"
Mia was a public figure, so even though she was dressed discreetly today, there was no guarantee a fan wouldn't recognize her.
After saying goodbye to Diana and Leo, Mia and Liam swiped their IDs through the gate and entered the waiting lounge.
Blue Horizon Airport was just one of many airports in Orapolis.
The city had a large population, and the airport waiting lounges were almost overflowing.
Mia's eyes intentionally scanned the crowd.
Liam noticed her constant searching and spoke in a low voice. "Mia, what are you looking for?"
"Nothing." Mia bit her lip lightly and said, "I thought I saw Kendall just now."
"What? How could she be here!" Liam's shock was no less than Diana's had been earlier.
"I'm not sure. She disappeared before I could see clearly," Mia added, backtracking. Although she said this, Liam still began searching in different directions in the crowd. Of course, it wasn't because Liam cared about Kendall, he just wanted to confirm if the sighting was true!
———
Kendall was sitting in a relatively secluded spot and didn't know anyone was looking for her. She was looking down on her phone, chatting.
The month of isolated live streaming meant she wouldn't be able to go to the martial arts studio, which Kendall had already told Maggie during their sparring session yesterday. To Kendall's surprise, people from the Sinclair family had sent her messages.
Victoria: "Kendall, are you joining the show today? Good luck! I'll be watching the live stream on TV! I'm looking forward to your performance!"
Neil: "Kendall, I invested in your program. Be your most authentic self. Good luck."
Neil usually didn't talk much with outsiders about things other than business, so he couldn't say outright what he really meant, which was 'Kendall you have me backing you! Do whatever you want, I'll handle the rest'!
Kendall wasn't surprised that the Sinclair family knew about her participating in the variety show.
Her participation wasn't a secret. After the program made the official announcement, netizens had been cursing her out on the top search for two days straight.
.. If Victoria liked to scroll through social media, it wasn't strange that she knew about it.
Neil, truly a commercial genius, not only had various physical industries but also had a hand in the entertainment sector.
The two of them not only paid attention to her affairs but also specially messaged her on the day of her departure. Kendall looked down, carefully typing out replies to each of them.
What surprised Kendall was the message notification that suddenly popped up on her phone screen a second later.
Nathan: "All the best! [good luck cat.jpg]"
'Nathan?'
'Huh?'
'Nathan!'
'Nathan finally learned how to chat?'
Kendall was shocked. She and Nathan had been chat friends for some time, but other than the time she video-called to invite him out, the two had not contacted each other. Nathan had never proactively messaged her.
One time, Victoria sent her a photo of Nathan sitting in front of his phone, and Kendall realized that Nathan was waiting for her messages all day long.
Victoria had asked Nathan to message Kendall several times, but Nathan ignored her. This led Victoria to complain to Kendall.
'I wonder if my silly son doesn't know how to text.'
Kendall had planned to teach Nathan in person the next time they met, but she didn't expect him to message her first. A smile touched Kendall's eyes.
She reached out and tapped on Nathan's profile picture.
[Kendall patted your avatar]
The top of the screen kept showing that the other party was typing, but no new message was sent. For some reason, even without seeing Nathan, Kendall could imagine him holding his phone, looking confused and stunned.
Kendall stopped teasing him and typed a reply.
Kendall: "Thank you for the encouragement. When I finish recording the program, I'll take you out to play."
Nathan, sitting cross-legged on the clean, bright, carpeted floor in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, instantly felt happy and expectant when he saw Kendall's message. His previously lifeless eyes suddenly sparkled.
Nathan really wanted to tell Kendall that they could meet before the program was over. But Neil had specifically instructed him that his participation in the program could not be revealed beforehand.
Nathan had wanted to pretend not to hear what Neil was saying, but the eldest Sinclair brother was sharp. He knew his younger brother sometimes deliberately pretended not to understand them, so he jokingly threatened Nathan.
"If you tell her, I won't let you participate in the program. This undoubtedly hit Nathan's weak spot, so he could only keep it a secret from Kendall for now."
