Chapter 86 Reprimanding Kendall
The word 'suffering' doesn't even begin to describe the night Liam, Jasper, and the others spent on the deserted island.
They were asleep deep into the night when a sudden downpour struck, the tide surged, their tents flooded, and they were forced to run into the forest to shelter for the night.
They finally managed to endure until dawn. The group helped each other stumble out of the forest, thinking that the program team must surely have arrived to pick them up. However... not only had the program team not come, but there wasn't even a shadow of a yacht!
They stood there, miserably staring at each other for a long time, before finally remembering Kendall and Henry, who had left the group yesterday afternoon.
"Yesterday, Kendall said it would rain, and then it really did rain."
"Let's go, let's see how Kendall and Henry are doing. The program team hasn't come yet anyway."
"I see their tents!"
"It's just up ahead!"
Liam and Jasper, supporting the breathless Mia, walked at the front of the group, followed by Ezra, Elijah, Daniel, and Sophia, among others.
Kendall and Henry were sitting in front of their small pot, eating breakfast. Both were hungry, and with the fresh, delicious ingredients, two-thirds of the pot full of seafood was devoured by the two of them in no time.
When she heard Liam's group's voices, Kendall looked down, finished the last bite of flatbread in her hand, and didn't even spare them a glance, let alone look up.
Instead, Henry, who was sitting across from her, looked up when he heard the commotion. His expression instantly changed, and he spoke in shock, "Ah? What... what happened to you all?"
Only one short night had passed, yet these people... were completely filthy, their hair dripping wet. Mia and Sophia, in particular, with their disheveled hair, looked like wildlings wandering in the mountains.
"There was a storm last night and the tide came in. Our tents flooded, so we ran into the forest to hide for the night," Jasper replied, his face looking quite poor. His gaze fell on Henry and Kendall. "Why are you two fine?"
"Ah, we... maybe it's the location of our tent?" Looking at their miserable state, Henry glanced thankfully at Kendall.
"The spot Kendall chose for us to pitch the tent is on a slope, and the ground on both sides slopes slightly downwards. So when the rainwater came down, it immediately flowed along the dirt to the sides and didn't accumulate."
"Wow! You guys even made breakfast!" Sophia hopped forward, not caring about her current embarrassed appearance. She hadn't eaten enough last night, and after a cold and hungry night, she felt like she was going to die if she didn't eat something soon!
Sophia looked at Henry with pleading eyes. "Can I have one piece of the seafood in that pot?"
"I'm full! Most of this seafood was collected by Kendall, ask her!" Stared at by Sophia's bright, blinking eyes, the socially awkward Henry was visibly uncomfortable and spoke quickly to avoid her.
Sophia immediately turned her head, clasped her hands together, and looked at Kendall with her beautiful large eyes.
Kendall was also full. There were only a few conches and two or three crabs left in the small pot. She handed the small pot to Sophia. "If you don't mind."
Sophia immediately replied, "I don't mind!" 'Why would she mind? This was her first hot meal today!'
Sophia took the small pot with a precious, careful motion as she answered.
user @SophiaProtector: "Hahahahaha, Sophia is hilarious! Look at how she treasures it. She didn't look that careful when endorsing gems worth tens of millions before."
user @TopCommentor: "Yesterday she was a celebrity with perfect makeup, and today she's a beggar on a deserted island..."
user @PrincessRuRu: "Haha, a million people are watching Sophia beg for food online. That search term might be trending soon."
user @CuriousCat: "After Sophia finishes recording this show, she will definitely beat up the program team."
Sophia didn't know that her begging behaviour had just become an indelible black mark in online history, and that some netizens would soon turn her clasped-hands gesture into an emoji.
.. At the moment, she was happy looking at the conches and sea crabs in the small pot she was holding.
With so many people around, Sophia didn't plan to eat alone.
She looked up and waved to everyone. "Come quickly, eat some together!"
Mia, supported by Liam and Jasper, looked at the clean and refreshed Kendall, her gaze inevitably clouded with gloom. She didn't understand why Kendall's luck was so good. With such heavy rain last night, why hadn't Kendall's tent and backpack been washed away too! Heaven truly was unfair.
user @LazyPanda: "Holy cow! Look at Mia's eyes! So scary!"
user @CutieMiMi: "It really is!!!"
user @DetectiveSoo: "She's looking at Kendall. Why is she using that look? Is she unhappy Kendall only gave food to Sophia and not her?"
user @GoddessMia: "Stop with the conspiracy theories! What's scary about our Mia's eyes? She just rained on all night and feels a little unwell."
user @MiaDefender: "Exactly! Anyone would feel unwell after what happened last night!"
Ezra, Daniel, and the others stepped forward to take crabs. Since there weren't enough sea crabs, they broke them apart to share among two or three people.
Sophia saw Mia and her two companions still standing in place and looked back. "Mia, aren't you hungry?"
Mia, whose eyes were still somewhat gloomy, immediately changed her expression, speaking weakly, "I don't really like seafood. You guys eat..."
Immediately after, Mia looked at Kendall and asked, "Kendall, I'm feeling a bit unwell. Can I borrow your tent to sleep for a bit?"
Kendall was using fine sand from the ground to scrub her hands. Hearing the request, she flatly refused. "No."
"W-why?" A flicker of light crossed Mia's eyes. She leaned weakly against Jasper and bit her lip. "I'll just sleep for a little while. I barely slept all night because of the rain."
"No means no. Why are you asking so many questions?" After scrubbing her fingers with the fine sand, Kendall carefully washed her fingers again with the rainwater, finally removing the fishy smell of the seafood from her hands.
Seeing Kendall's attitude toward Mia, Liam and Jasper instantly lost their tempers.
Jasper frowned, "Didn't you sleep at the Hansen family so few times before? Mia looked after you so well, and now you won't even let her sleep in your tent for a while. Why are you so petty!"
Liam spoke coldly, "How much is that tent? I'll buy it!"
The atmosphere instantly became tense.
user @MisIsTheBest: "Holy cow, that scum Kendall is so petty. She won't even let her borrow the tent to sleep."
user @SiSiOnTop: "Does she have a germophobia? Like me, I don't like people lying on my bed. Every time friends come over, they lie on my bed and even eat on it. It's so annoying!"
user @DieHardMiaFan: "This is the wilderness, not a home. Why be so fussy? And Mia said that she didn't rest well all night because of the rain. She's leaning on her fiancé, clearly tired and sleepy. She's just asking to borrow a tent! It's not like she's asking for a piece of her flesh!"
user @PrettyMia: "And, did you hear what Mia's fiancé said? That scum Kendall stayed at the Hansen family long-term! The Hansen family did her a favour! Look at her attitude towards Mia... is this it?"
user @GoddessMia: "Hehe, Heaven truly isn't watching. It washed away Mia's tent. Why didn't it wash away that scum Kendall's tent and supplies! Ahhh, I'm so mad!"
Looking at the screen, the comments were dense, almost all of them angrily reprimanding Kendall and speaking up for Mia.
Diana, who was watching the live stream in front of the screen, couldn't feel happy at all. If Kendall were to say something inappropriate in the live stream to retaliate against Jasper and Liam, the Hansen family would be finished!
