103. Temporary Allies

.

Luoyin opened his eyes the next morning, and he basked in the lingering warmth of the night as Weiyan slept against his chest- her breaths, tiny warm puffs across his skin.

One arm was curled around her, cradling her to himself, while his other hand held hers, their fingers still interwoven.

He gently unlocked their fingers, laying her hand on his chest, then tenderly ran his fingers through her hair, lightly straightening the mild tangles he had put there.

'She's too much of a blessing!' He thought fiercely, his heart swelling, and he kissed the top of her head, feeling like the luckiest being in existence!

'I must have been foolish to dream of letting go!

Endless worries awaited, but Weiyan completed him in ways he did not understand, and he refused to imagine a life without her.

No mortal could guess the future, and even the Fate and Night Immortals had limits to what they could foresee...

Yet Luoyin knew he would rather die before he let go of her again, and his arm subconsciously tightened around Weiyan

He froze, realizing he might have squeezed too hard.

But it was too late- Weiyan startled awake and their eyes met.

Her face turned an interesting colour, and she swiftly moved, diving beneath the covers and reminding him of the scandal morning.

He chuckled. "Yanyan, you're not going to act all innocent, are you?" He angled his head. "I don't know how many bites I received yesterday, but I'm afraid to look at my own neck."

After the first time, things had turned even more passionate, and Luoyin had been pleased to see new sides of his wife!

Weiyan shyly lowered the covers, revealing a reddened forehead and curious eyes.

But her eyes widened at several reddened hickeys on Luoyin's neck and shoulders, and she quickly yanked the covers back over her head.

Luoyin laughed lightly, then gently tugged the covers down to see her face.

"Yanyan, don't hide from me." He placed a searing kiss on her forehead. "I love every side of you. And besides..."

He inched the covers down to reveal her own neck adorned with several hickeys.

"I told you, I believe in 'giving and taking'!" He finished as she burned a bright red, and he leaned down to kiss her lips gently, almost re-awakening calm fires.

'Too tempting!' He pulled away quickly and got out of bed. "Yanyan, why not rest for a bit? I'll prepare a hot bath for you."

Red faced, she nodded shyly, before hiding beneath the covers again.

Luoyin couldn't bear anyone seeing Weiyan like this, not even Tong, so he personally prepared her bath using his powers for water, and his usual refining flame formation for heat.

When done, he tossed in several herbs for healing, qi enhancement, and qi refining. In the martial world, the physical dalliance between a couple was also a way of sharing qi and helping each other refine it, so it was sometimes called 'shared cultivation' or 'dual cultivation'.

Luoyin certainly did not have cultivation on his mind throughout the night! But that did not mean they hadn't exchanged qi.

These herbs would help Weiyan stabilise her qi greatly and give a boost. She had already strived to attain such an impressive height from childhood...

What was wrong with helping one's wife rise even faster?

Luoyin gave the bath water a final swirl, and then returned to lift Weiyan into his arms, carrying her over to the bath...

Sky Realm....

Dawn rays were filtering through the windows of Fate Pavillion, as a crystal black butterfly flew along the corridors, spreading the strong scent of a strange eve flower.

Anyone who inhaled the scent remained frozen in place, lost in an unconscious trance. It affected the new Fate Disciples, the servants, and even the Sky Soldiers stationed there...

Meanwhile, the temporary Fate Immortal, the Baize, stared at the Fate Mirrors, his brows drawn in worry.

After staring for a while, he waved a hand. An elegant scroll rose into the air and unfurled.

"Sky Emperor." He spoke aloud, and gold characters began to appear on the scroll, writing all he was saying.

"The Fates are taking an unusual turn. Immortal Fei might be altering the fates."

When he was done, the scroll rolled back up and he waved it towards the window, but before it flew out, the black butterfly appeared, blocking its path, and it vibrated in place.

"Demon Aura!" The Baize's eyes widened in surprise and a pure white sword appeared in his hand.

But in an instant, a bright green seal appeared beneath his feet, and he was trapped within a tube of light.

He was quick to attack the transparent walls of light, but it had no effect, and he sighed, calmly turning to the wide doors.

Fei Yun stepped in, leisurely strolling forward.

Only a few days had passed, but his appearance had changed.

Gone were his usual white and light green robes, replaced with black from head to feet, except for a dark green outer vest.

But most of all, his black hair had turned a dull grey with dark green tips.

He held out a hand and the gold scroll zoomed over to him.

"Reporting me so soon? Tsk tsk tsk..." With a sneer, the scroll burst into bright green flames, turning into ashes.

"Pardon my disrespect, Elder Baize," he dusted his hand, scattering the ashes. Then dusted invisible specks off his robes. "...but I can't let any such message stray away."

The Baize remained calm. "Why ask my pardon? Haven't you already disrespected me by altering fate?"

This was true.

Fei Yun was still connected to the Fate Mirrors. From the day he had the vision about Zhurong Fen, he had begun to change fate in little ways.

"You manipulated the Wulin into sending their disciples to Yu Shui City- a place shrouded in the Fate Mirrors." He said, but Fei Yun simply raised a brow.

"And so?"

There was a short silence.

The Baize sighed. "Altering fate without permission will drain one's vitality." He glanced pointedly at Fei Yun's hair. "Your hair is reverting to your original colour..."

Black hair was a sign of vitality, except in rare cases where the Immortal's enlightened- or 'human' form naturally had a different color, like Bailong with his silvery white hair, Tianlong with his fiery red hair, or Zhurong Fen with her light blue hair.

Fei Yun's enlightened form had natural black hair, but his primordial form was from a rare clan of crystal birds. He was an Emerald Owl which had gem-like green feathers.

His hair was reverting to green because he had used the Fate altering spell which sapped him of vitality, shortening his lifespan.

"From the looks of it, you also burned a significant amount of your cultivation." The Baize observed. "And you've gone as far as breaking your confinement seal...

"What is making you go so far? What are you planning?"

But Fei Yun scoffed. "Aren't Baizes known for their wise and peaceful natures? If you're not wise enough to guess, then leave in peace!" With a swift hand seal, the light surrounding the Baize glowed brightly, filling the hall with its light.

Then it vanished completely, the Baize gone.

"Did you kill him?" A light voice asked as the crystal butterfly landed on his shoulder.

"Hmph. He's dangerous alive." Fei Yun appeared before the Fate Mirrors and he performed a few hand seals.

The central mirror whirred and the vision on its surface changed to the Yan House gates.

Fei Yun scowled and cast a series of hand seals, but though the mirror vibrated furiously, the vision didn't change.

"Tch! Even as a lowly mortal, he's powerful enough to shroud a place from my eyes!" Bright green flames surrounded Fei Yun as he raged.

He let out a calming breath. "Forget it. I'll play my part, so it's your turn..." He brushed the butterfly off his shoulder, and it moved to hover before him. "Don't misunderstand. We are only temporary allies.

"If I see you after this is done, don't blame me for destroying you!"

"Hao!" The light voice replied, and the butterfly flew out a window. "The trance will fade away in a day. You should kill the Fate Pavillion staff before they awaken..." The voice disappeared.

Fei Yun squeezed his hands into a tight fist, glaring at the Mirror which still stubbornly showed the Yan House gates.

In the past few days, the butterfly had been whispering into his ears. He sensed demon aura from it, yet he listened to every word, because they had a common enemy.

An enemy Fei Yun hated so much that he didn't mind losing his vitality. An enemy Fei Yun hated so much that he had now defied the heavens.

And he would join hands with the lowest demons to eliminate that enemy.

"Yin Xiaolong...! You're the one who pushed me this far!"
