Chapter 2
Jake
It took a week to find a new place to live. It was a condo in Seattle overlooking the Puget Sound at the north end of Elliott Bay. I got it cheaper on a divorce sale because the husband just wanted to dump the property like I was doing with my home in Shoreline.
I got the condo because I was the first one to bid and the husband just wanted to be done with the property. He also wanted to limit how much money his wife would get from the sale. Win-Win for me.
Although the condo was furnished, I bought a new king size bed and all the proper linens.
I also had to buy pots, pans and dishes plus groceries to fill the fridge and cabinets.
That took the entire weekend. I slept like a rock that Sunday night and was fully ready to face my first day back to work.
Lawrence the CEO of my firm had called me on Friday to inform me that I was promoted to the CFO slot because James had decided to retire early. When I told Lawrence that I wanted to have a meeting with all the employees on Monday and what I wanted to say, he agreed full heartedly.
There were some tense looking faces in the conference room when I entered. Lawrence was already seated at the head of the table. I could feel the anxiety in the room as I closed the door and walked to the front of the room where here is a projector screen.
“As you have all heard by now I have been promoted to the CFO of the firm,” I announced. “What that means for all of you is that that from this moment forward I am your boss from on,” I added. Their faces staring at me as I proceeded.
“From what I have heard there is a majority of you who listened to my wife’s vile images of me while she smeared my name and my being for the past three years,” I raised my voice a bit. I now have everyone’s rapt attention.
“If there is anything you want to say to me about any of that speak now. If I ever hear even a whisper about any of this after we leave this room I will fire you on the spot,” I said emphatically.
You could hear a pin drop the room went so silent. “If any of you don’t like these terms you can step forward and I will accept your resignations immediately,” I added.
There were a few more moments of dead silence. “I-I-I never believed a word of it,” one of the junior accountants blurted out. “Me neither. Me neither- Me neither,” a chorus of other voices called out. “I always knew that she was a vile cow,” Karma added.
“If there is nothing else you may all be excused,” I informed my employees. “Remember, no whispering shit behind my back. Leave all that shit at the door right now,” I remind them.
Simultaneously they all got up and shuffled out of the room. Except for Karma. “Coffee and donuts?” she asked with a sly grin on her face. “That would be great,” I answered. My eyes raking up and down her sexy voluptuous body. Her 36D-24-36 body looks like it was created for sex.
