Chapter 6 The Apron Agreement

I tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep because I kept thinking about Jian Xi.

In the end, I opened the shopping app and placed an order for five or six pretty dresses for her in one go.

A one-dollar deal for a pink Kitty apron?

I added one on impulse.

I sent the shopping screenshot to Jian Xi.

"Baby, I bought you some clothes. Hope you like them."

"The delivery will arrive tomorrow. You can wear the clothes I bought for you on the day you come home."

"Hehe, I'm so excited~"

......

Jian Xi started typing nonstop again—I wondered if her keyboard was hot—and after a long time, she finally sent one line.

"...An apron?"

The order did include an apron.

Me: "Yes! It's an apron! Cute, right?"

Jian Xi: "..."

Jian Xi: "No way. Impossible. Don't even think about it."

Jian Xi refused so decisively.

I was stunned for two seconds, then quickly reacted.

I wondered if Jian Xi, the poor child, had never worn pretty dresses before.

It looked like seeing so many beautiful clothes all at once had overwhelmed her.

So maybe her first reaction was to refuse me.

But to me, who had taken her identity, these pretty clothes were the most ordinary thing.

I started feeling guilty again. Amid the guilt, my determination to treat her well grew even stronger.

"Jian Xi, Baby, don't you like the color? Or is the size wrong? Tell me and I'll exchange it right away."

"Sorry, but this is my first time buying for someone. I don't have much experience."

"But Baby, you have to believe me. I'm sincere. I really like you and truly want to be good to you."

"Tell me what you like. It's not too late to change now......"

"...You only bought for me?"

Jian Xi suddenly interrupted, and her focus was strange.

I didn't understand but answered honestly. "Yes."

The other side of the screen fell silent for a moment.

After a while.

She quickly added another line, her tone awkward and embarrassed.

"But... but it can only be worn underneath."

Seeing her say that.

I immediately broke into tears and laughter. "Great! The fact that you're willing to wear it is the first step to victory!"

Jian Xi: "?"

Jian Xi's reply carried a hint of alertness and disbelief. "...That's not enough? There's a next step?"

Me: "Of course. This is just the beginning. I'll buy you even more styles of clothes."

It seemed like Jian Xi's sky had collapsed.

"...More styles?"

"No, really no. Lin Duo, that's enough. I absolutely cannot......"

I didn't get to read what she was saying. I just sent her my heartfelt words.

"I just read in a book that love always feels like owing something."

"So I always want to buy lots of things for you and try my best to be good to you. It's probably because I love you so much. Do you believe now that I really love you?"

After sending this realization.

I remembered she seemed to have something to say earlier.

"Ah, right. What were you trying to say just now? Go on."

Jian Xi: "..."

Jian Xi: "Thank you for buying me clothes."

I smiled. "Why be polite with me? We're family."

Jian Xi was silent for two seconds. "...Do you really look forward to becoming family with me that much?"

Me: "Yes, I look forward to it so much. I dream about you."

"What about you? Do you look forward to becoming family with me too?"

Jian Xi didn't reply again.

But Chen Ma contacted me first.

"Lin Duo, Lin Duo, Jian Xi's face just turned as red as a monkey's butt."

"I've been here so long, and this is the first time I've seen him lose his composure like this. It's really rare."

I wanted to ask more.

But Jian Xi replied to me.

"...A little bit."

After a pause.

She sounded calm as she emphasized again.

"Only a little bit. It might disappear at any time. It could vanish the next second."

She was so cute.

I hugged my phone and rolled on the bed, then sent her a voice message in a drawn-out tone.

"Okay, got it, Baby. Love you, mwah mwah~"

After the message was sent.

Chen Ma replied before Jian Xi.

"Lin Duo, big trouble. Jian Xi has a nosebleed."

"You can't imagine how scary it is seeing him sitting there expressionless, listening to his phone while blood drips from his nose."

"Okay, I'll make loofah soup for him tomorrow."

Me: "..."
