Epilogue

ADAM

One Year Later

We had tried to take it slow; we really did. After Edinburgh, Elowen and I had tried to be a normal couple, but our love is a force of nature.

I proposed on a bright Tuesday morning on a boardwalk overlooking the bay. The ring, white gold and diamond, had been one of my last big purchases before I signed the company over.

Elowen said yes. We were married a month later, a small affair with only our closest friends and family. Camille was her maid of honor, her face beaming with joy.

Today, we’re standing in a different sort of room—a packed auditorium.

Camille is on the stage, laying out her vision for the future of Valmonte Global.

I'm in the front row, my hand resting on the swollen, pregnant belly of my wife. Elowen is six months along, leaning against me, and she’s more gorgeous than ever.

The press is still fascinated by my disappearance from the corporate world. They call it a mid-life crisis, or an obsession with my new young, beautiful wife. They’re right about the latter part, at least.

After the conference, as we're leaving the building, a reporter from a financial podcast shoves a microphone in my face. "Mr. Valmonte! Any comment on the new direction of the company? Are you pleased with your daughter's performance?"

I don’t stop, my hand on Elowen's back, but I give them one sound bite at least. “All I can say is she takes after her father.”

The reporter looks disappointed, but I don't care. This isn’t my world anymore. I have a wife to take home and make love to, a child to feel kick, and a brand new life to live.
