Chapter Twenty Six
Brenton
Brenton was ready to get the show on the road. He had trained all his life and being attacked by Azazel's children was the first real encounter he had at combat. He messed up and didn't follow what he learned, but he wouldn't fail this time. Not while Marie's life was at stake.
She had a look in her eye that concerned him. She was blocking him from her thoughts and that worried him, too. He couldn't imagine having that kind of ultimatum hanging over his head; turn yourself over and save your parents or refuse and they all die.
He wanted to comfort her, but he didn't know her mood or how she would take it. He couldn't stand being rejected by her. She was apprehensive and fidgety. Everything was moving too slow for her. She was ready to go and get this over with.
The question still remained lingering in the air, what would they do when they found Azazel's prison? They knew they had to stop him from escaping, but they didn't know how. This was brand new for all of them.Fortunately, Marie remembered Helena saying Nacole would be an asset. Bringing her would play a big role in the success of the mission.

Brenton was ready to get the show on the road. He had trained all his life and being attacked by Azazel's children was the first real encounter he had at combat. He messed up and didn't follow what he learned, but he wouldn't fail this time. Not while Marie's life was at stake.

On the other hand, this could all be some trap. Brenton could be leading Marie right into his hands. She would be right there for the taking and no matter how strong they thought they were, he was stronger, bound or not.
Brenton couldn't voice his concerns to Marie, she was too focused on saving her parents. Nothing he said would change that. He didn't care, he would follow her regardless. She needed him and he was determined to step up.
Brenton reached out to Micheal and let him know what was going on. He was coming to help. He wanted to go on the journey and help Marie get her parents back. It would be easier to travel with him and Brenton trusted him to guide them through this situation.
Marie's uncle came back in the room. Brenton was relived, he needed some kind of conversation to break the tension in the room.
“Everything should be ready for your travel. Micheal just arrived. He and Rochelle will get you to Sydney within seconds. You can take with you whomever you choose, but I feel Jewel and DeShon would be a great help to you,” he said.
Brenton didn't have a problem with that. The more the merrier. They had no idea what waited for them when they got there. Their strength would be in numbers.
So far, Nacole, Wayne and Sky agreed to go. Obviously her Uncle Josh had spoken to Jewel and Deshon. Terel didn't want to leave the house, he wasn't sure of his powers like the others were. Micheal and Rochelle would be their transportation. Marchell and Nathaniel wanted to get out of the house and do some real sparring. They only cared about the fight, which didn't bother Brenton in the least. He wanted some savages on their side. They would make a great team; all of the elements coming together. Maybe they had a chance after all.
Marie tried to plaster a smile on her face, but Brenton knew she was afraid.
“Nacole has comprised a map of the places you should check first. Her powers are not as strong as her mothers, but she should be able to sense things coming and give you a few minutes notice, maybe more,” her uncle said handing her the map. “Now, I hate to rush you off, but time is of the essence.”
Marie nodded and started gathering her backpack. Her uncle motioned for him to come to the hall. Brenton looked back at Marie before exiting her room and closing the door behind him.
He followed her uncle to the end of the hall and stood while he looked around suspiciously.
“We only have a few seconds to talk. Marie's mind is on her parents, she won't be listening through your thoughts,” her uncle said. Brenton folded his arms, curious. “I read further into the story and it says the only blood that could break the chains is the blood of an angel who has descended from two separate angels. Somewhere down the line two descendants had a child. As you know, this is forbidden, but someone ignored the warning.”
Brenton flinched, but her uncle didn't notice. He just continued to talk. “I'm not sure why Azazel feels Marie is the answer unless he has an ulterior motive. We both know Marie came from an angel and a mortal.”
“So what do you think the end game is?” Brenton asked.
“I don't know, but I have a feeling that when it is all said and done, Marie will give her life if she thinks she has to. You must stop her from doing that. Whatever you do, get her out of there. Renea is well aware of the consequences and is prepared to sacrifice herself to save Marie. If things go wrong and you can't save her parents, I need you to stop everything and get the team back home. You will be the only one who can talk some sense in her and get her out of there. Renea will know what to do after that.”
Brenton was shocked at what her uncle was saying to him. How would he convince Marie to leave her parents behind? She would never forgive him if something happened to them. But could he live with himself if it were her instead?
“Promise me, Brenton. Renea can handle herself and Frank, but Marie is more important. Do you understand?”
Brenton shook his head. “I promise I will get her home safe.”
“This means you will have to block her from reading your thoughts and knowing your intentions until this is done. Can you do this?”
“Of course. If it means keeping Marie out of harms way, I will do whatever it takes.”
They shook hands, “Thank you,” he said and walked away.
He stood there in a daze. He couldn't let Marie sacrifice herself. His chest started to hurt. He had to pull it together, for Marie. He turned to walk back to her room, but she was standing at the door, watching him.
He walked up slowly, gauging her mood. Her face was blank.
“ I love you Marie Mitchell, ” he said in her mind.
Her face didn't change. “ What are you hiding? ”
Brenton almost told her, but he quickly snapped back. He didn't think he would have to start blocking her so soon, but it was important that he did. He hated that he just started to enjoy being able to share thoughts and now he had to filter them.
“I just wanted to tell you that I loved you before we left the house as warriors,” he smirked. “I want to have a moment of just being your boyfriend and not the guy that is about to go to war with you. Although, that sounds pretty awesome now that I said it out loud.”
She smiled and he could breathe easy. That smile made his heart do backflips and ache at the same time. She was so beautiful.
“I love you, too,” she said and kissed his cheek. “Boyfriend, huh? You're really trying to get us killed.”
“Well I figured if Azazel takes us out, we have nothing to worry about. On the other hand, if we take him out, we deserve some crowns or something. Maybe they'll be so grateful, they will pay for the wedding,” he said laughing. Marie smiled.
They walked in the room just in time to see three people appear out of nowhere in front of them. Marie gasped and Brenton instinctively stepped in front of her.
They looked like a gang of thugs, dressed in chains and fingerless gloves, spiky hair and vengeful faces.
“ It's Azazel's descendants, DeMar and Shaniece. The other one is trying to block me, but I think his name is Eric, he's one of Ezeqeel's, like Rochelle and Micheal ,” Brenton said in Marie's thoughts.
“What are you doing here?” Marie said moving next to Brenton.
The middle one laughed. He must have been the leader of the group. He had an air of cockiness that Brenton could relate to; plus the others fell into place behind him waiting for instructions.
DeMar was thicker and taller than Brenton. He stood about six feet tall with arms that had muscles stacked on top of each other. His skin was tanned, he had gray eyes and his hair was a greasy pile of black spikes. He wore camouflaged clothing with combat boots. Chains hung from his front pocket to the back and he had an even bigger one around his neck. Brenton definitely did not like this dude.
Shaniece stood next to him with her arms folded like a statue and a smirk on her face. She was taller than DeMar which means she towered over Brenton even more. She was light-skinned with green eyes and honey colored hair that was braided down her back. She was dressed similar to DeMar, but she wore it way better than he did.
“Look Shan, it's the guy with the fire wall,” DeMar said. They both started laughing.
“And his girl, the bobble-head,” Shaniece said, mimicking Marie while she was unconscious.
“How did you get in here? The house is covered?” Brenton asked.
“Oh that, it burned a little coming in, but we figured our way around it,” Shaniece said popping her knuckles.
There was steam coming off of Marie and Brenton knew this was bad. Before he could reach her, she lit on fire. Brenton was impressed and proud at how well she was controlling it.
She put her hands up like she was about to shoot a bow and arrow and the fire transformed into one. Eric, who was just as tall as Shaniece, stepped in front of DeMar. Brenton stared into his dark, blue eyes and tried to read him, but all he saw was darkness. He glared at the other two and neither of them looked worried. Marie held the pose, aiming it toward them.
“Either you leave or I'm torching all of you,” she said.
DeMar and Shaniece produced some shuriken and stood grounded. Marie didn't waste any time. She let go of the flaming arrow, but it didn't connect. Eric waved a pale hand in front of the fire and it went out.
Marie stumbled back, confused.
“There has been a change of plans. We need you to come with us now,” Shaniece said in a cruel voice. “You won't mind if we take your girl for bit, will you?” she said looking at Brenton.
“Azazel said he was giving her a week to find him. Why are you here?” Brenton yelled.
“Oh, he sensed your little plan of attack and rescue. He was offended you thought you could succeed. You spit on his offer and disgraced him. He ordered us to take her. He is tired of waiting,” DeMar said, with an evil look on his face.
Marie's flame went completely out and she gazed at him with fear in her eyes. He had to do something; anything.
His mind went blank as they walked toward her; he couldn't concentrate. Both DeMar and Shaniece put their hand on Eric's shoulder as he reached out and snatched Marie's arm.
Brenton quickly grabbed Marie's hand before they were sucked up in a whirlwind and disappeared from the room.ing Marie right into his hands. She would be right there for the taking and no matter how strong they thought they were, he was stronger, bound or not.
