Chapter 20
Chapter Twenty
Dom scanned the chart for his next patient for less than ten seconds before entering the exam room.
Human medicine had started to bore him. Time for a change.
Perhaps he could go back into ER medicine or even become a paramedic.
Or maybe something different. He’d switched to internal medicine consultation out of curiosity.
Now, it’d become a time suck, with a lot of humans whining about their pain.
When he entered the room, he first noticed the pointy red stilettos. Not what he expected to see on a seventy-two-year-old human male. The long legs and curvy figure in a short white dress…
Evie.
Off and on, he’d come out of the shadows to spend time with her over the past few years.
They were working together to find the way to break the curse.
Being a part of her family by participating occasionally in the monthly full moon dinner and other moments had been life altering.
They accepted him for what he was, even if Roman remained cool toward him. This was his mother after all.
“I forget how sexy you are in green scrubs. A few microns of fabric between the air and skin.” She ran her finger from his cheek, down his neck to his chest, and circled his nipple, which strained for her touch.
She traced a few of the marks on his arms. “I can’t ever get enough of your marks, Doctor…
” She glanced at his name tag. “Dr. Gruber?”
He’d borrowed the doctor’s name and made humans see the image of the other doctor. Only, his mental coercion never worked on Evie. He locked the exam room door.
His brain flashed a warning at the same time it decided it didn’t want to give more commentary on why he shouldn’t let her seduce him.
Right here. Right now. Dropping his mouth to hers, he gave her what she wanted.
She groaned in submission. He took advantage of the parting of her lips, licking inside her, penetrating her with his tongue.
He deliberately brought her into contact with his lower body, his arousal straining.
Evie pushed against his shoulders, and he reluctantly eased back. “First, love, I need a favor.”
Of course she did. She wouldn’t have come to him at work because she wanted a quickie in the exam room. He’d hoped, but then he wouldn’t want her so badly if she didn’t have an agenda that was probably dangerous.
She leaned in and kissed his neck, then nipped his skin with her sharp teeth. He hissed.
“Just one small thing,” she purred.
He cupped her breast through her clothes, his thumb finding her nipple. As he stroked the tip, her head fell back.
“Let’s play first and do business second.” He wasn’t below begging.
She pulled at his ass to roll her pelvis against his. Victory. She was losing herself to desire. He wasn’t going to give her a chance to think.
But she stepped away. “First, do this for me. It’s simple. I need you to find my son.”
“Which one?”
“I need you to find Shane.”
“He’s dead.”
She rocked her head. “You know, I never felt this one like Jonas’s death. I’m not convinced. This should be simple to confirm. Shadow walk me to see if he exists in this world.”
He leaned in to place kisses up her neck to her ear. “How do you know I have that skill or that it’s even a real thing?”
“I researched mages long ago. You can find anyone by shadow walking to see them. It’s different than actually being present. Sort of like my dream walking. All you need is something personal of theirs. It’s how you spy on me, isn’t it? Back at the river, I dropped my ring, didn’t I?”
He tried not to smile.
“You sneaky bastard.” She kissed down his neck. “I don’t regret losing the ring. It brought you to me.”
“I’ll need something of his.”
She removed a silver Zippo lighter from her handbag. He pulled Evie into him. One touch to the item and a focus on its owner…
The two of them hovered as shadows near a male, a lycan who worked to load ammo into cartridges. The lycan glanced up. His eyebrows drew together as he tilted his head.
“Using Dom to find me, Mom? I shouldn’t have underestimated you, but I had hoped you wouldn’t look for me.
” Shane’s crystal-blue eyes crinkled at the corners as he smiled.
His blond hair was long, but not unkempt.
“Now is not the time to find me. You can reassure the boys there’s a way out of the curse.
I’m working on it. I’m sorry, but they must stay in play. They must still think me gone for now.”
Dom pulled them back to the exam room.
She grinned up at him. “Thank you. I knew that cheeky little twerp wasn’t dead.”
“How thankful, exactly, are you?”
“I’m not wearing underwear.” Her eyes sparked mischievously.
He lifted and deposited her on the exam table to drop small kisses up one of her inner thighs. A long lick along her folds elicited a moan from her.
“It’s been too long,” she said.
“It’s been three weeks.”
“Twenty-three days, to be precise.”
He sucked her clit into his mouth and rolled his tongue around it.
“We don’t have a lot of time…I need you inside me,” she ordered.
“We have time. You taste better than anything when you’re screaming my name.” He put a hand on her lower abdomen to keep her still while he continued. Within moments, her entire body shuddered. Her neck arched.
“Stop fighting it.” He did a vicious roll of her clit. A victorious laugh erupted out of him at the little noises she made as she burst into oblivion.
He claimed her mouth and pulled her to the end of the exam table. Her stunning eyes blinked up at him while she untied his scrub pants and pushed them down. Her legs wound his waist and pulled him into her. He set a slow rhythm with his hips.
The more they moved, the more his words scattered in his brain.
He wanted to tell her out loud how much he missed her and every bit of the feelings inside, but he feared more than her ears might hear them.
He fisted his hand to cover the obsidian ring and used his energy to mask them from the Conclave.
Instead of words, he showed her with his hands, his mouth, and voice how much he adored her as they tumbled over the edge together.
