21. Vera

I stand inside the dungeon, heart hammering.

Kane doesn’t look at me immediately. He shrugs off his jacket, drapes it over the chair. Loosens the tie. Removes it.

I watch him roll his sleeves to the elbow — left first, then right, precise folds — the tendons in his forearms shifting with the movement.

My pulse is loud in my ears as he moves to the cabinet, and opens the glass doors with a soft click. When he turns he’s holding leather cuffs lined with sheepskin and a bottle of oil.

“Strip.”

“Make me.”

He sets down what he’s holding and crosses to me in three strides, stopping close enough that I have to tip my head back to hold his gaze.

“I gave you an order. Remove the dress. You have three seconds.” A beat of silence that has real weight in it. “One.”

I don’t move.

“Two.”

My hands stay at my sides.

“Three.”

His hand moves fast. Grabs the neckline of my dress — my beautiful, wine-colored, carefully chosen dress — and pulls. The fabric gives with a sound that goes straight through me.

“Kane — that dress was expensive—”

“Then you should have taken it off when I asked you to.” He unzips what’s left with controlled precision, and the fabric pools at my feet. He steps back. “Now the rest. Or I rip those too.”

Not a threat. A statement of fact. We both know the difference.

I reach back, unhook my bra. Let it fall. Then step out of my heels.

I’m naked.

He circles me slowly, taking his time. His gaze moves across my shoulders, down my spine, back up — assessment and want in the same look. My skin prickles everywhere it lands.

“On your knees.”

I sink to the hardwood floor. The wood is cool and unyielding beneath me, and the position makes me aware of where I am: eye level with his belt, with the strain of his arousal against his slacks, with the fact that I did this.

“Hands behind your back.”

I obey, lacing my fingers at the small of my back.

He secures my wrists with efficient movements, sheepskin soft against my skin, the restraint real and present.

I can’t move my arms. Can’t catch myself if I fall forward.

The helplessness of it moves through me like a current.

Not fear. Something adjacent to fear that feels much better.

“You were behaving yourself,” he says. “And then somewhere before dessert you made a decision to test your Dom.” He tips my chin up with two fingers, tilting my face toward his. “I’m curious what made you make that choice.”

“A woman has needs,” I say.

His thumb traces my lower lip, slow and deliberate.

“You couldn’t wait,” he says. “Something feels out of your control and you reach for the nearest way to take it back.” His eyes hold mine. “Even here. Even with me. You still need to be the one who decides when it starts.”

The truth of it sits in my chest, too accurate to argue with and too exposed to confirm.

So I do the only thing left available to me.

I take his thumb into my mouth and swirl my tongue around it.

He draws his thumb free.

“That,” he says quietly, “was not yours to take.”

His hand slides to my jaw, firm, tilting my face exactly where he wants it.

“This mouth of yours has been asking for something all evening.” His thumb brushes my lips one last time. “So I’m going to give it exactly what it asked for.”

He works his belt open. The sound of leather sliding through fabric makes me clench, heat rising low and immediate. Then he’s in front of me, close enough that I have to tilt my head back to see his face.

“Open.”

One word. I obey.

“Good girl.” His hand cups my jaw, thumb stroking my cheek once, tender, before anything else. “Keep your eyes on me.”

He pushes in slowly. Gives me time to adjust, my jaw stretching around him in a way that feels overwhelming and exactly right. The first sound he makes is quiet and controlled, barely there.

I want more of them.

So I change the angle. Subtle. Unauthorized.

His hand tightens in my hair immediately.

“What did I say?”

I look up at him through my lashes. Say nothing. Do it again.

“Vera.” That warning tone. Two notes below his normal voice. “Don’t test me right now.”

So naturally I test him.

His grip pulls back — not enough to stop anything, enough to make his point. He waits until my eyes come all the way back to his.

“You’re doing that on purpose.”

The corner of my mouth curves, just slightly. I watch his face do the thing it does when I’ve delighted and infuriated him in equal measure.

Two seconds. Maybe three.

“Fine.” The word drops into the room. “Have it your way.”

His fingers curl at the root of my hair, tilting my head back with a pressure that is neither gentle nor harsh — just absolute. He repositions me without asking, without explaining, moving me where he wants me.

Then he takes over. His pace. His depth. His angle, not mine. Every time I try to find my own rhythm he adjusts his grip and it’s gone.

My body goes liquid with relief.

He’s unhurried. Maddeningly unhurried. Shallow at first, reading every shift in my breathing, every flicker of tension across my shoulders. When I tighten he stills completely, hand smoothing through my hair until I breathe through it and soften. Only then does he press deeper.

“Touch yourself. Behind your back. Now.”

I work my fingers between my own legs at the awkward angle the cuffs allow — wrists bound, arms bent back, the reach nearly impossible. Nearly. My fingers find the right place and I make a sound around him I can’t contain.

I hate it.

I love it.

I keep my eyes on his the way he told me to, and that’s when I see it — a tightening around his eyes, the muscle working once in his jaw, his hand threading deeper into my hair with a pressure that has stopped being entirely controlled.

I hold his gaze and take him deeper than he’s been allowing me to.

“Vera.” Wrecked at the edges. “Don’t.”

I look up at him and do it again.

“Vera.” Just that. Not a warning, not a command — something underneath both, unguarded in a way he almost never allows.

And then the resistance — the part of me that always needs to be winning something — quietly steps back. I don’t decide to let it go. It goes on its own, and what’s left is just this. Him. Me.

I stop fighting.

Not because he made me.

Because I want to.

He sees it happen. He goes still for a moment, just looking at me. Not the Dom. Not the architect. Something older, quieter than either. His thumb moves to my cheek. Stays there.

“There she is.”

He draws back and tucks himself away with efficient hands.

Then he cups my face, his thumb swiping the corner of my eye where a tear has escaped.

“On your feet.”

He helps me up, his hands firm on my arms — not optional, my legs are shaking badly enough that without them I’d go straight down.

He walks me to the spanking bench, positions me over it, and secures my wrists and ankles with practiced efficiency, each buckle checked once before he moves to the next.

I am completely spread. Completely immobilized. And more turned on than I have ever been in my life.

“Color?”

“Green, Sir.”

“Good.” A pause while he moves to the cabinet. “I want to try something you listed as a soft limit.” His hand smooths over my lower back. “The plug.”

My breath catches.

“This is completely your choice. There’s no expectation here.”

“Green, Sir.” My voice is steady despite my nerves. “I want to try.”

“Good girl.”

He tells me, quiet and unhurried, what he’s going to do and how. Then cool liquid touches my skin and my breath leaves me all at once.

“Easy.” His free hand settles on my lower back. “Just breathe.”

The first press is gentle. Just presence, no forcing. My body resists instinctively and he stills.

“Push out slightly. I know it feels wrong. Do it anyway.”

I do. The plug eases in and I make a sound I wasn’t prepared for.

“How does that feel?”

“Weird. Not bad. Just... different.”

“That’s okay. Your body’s learning.” He gives me a moment, hand warm and still on my back. Then, incrementally, deeper. “You’re doing so well.”

I breathe through it.

“Good girl. Stay with me.” Another slow increment. His thumb traces a small circle at the base of my spine. “So brave. You’re taking this beautifully.”

When it goes in deeper, I tighten and he stills immediately.

“Remember. Push out.”

I do.

“There.” Low and certain. “Almost there.”

When the plug seats fully, he holds completely still, one hand braced warm against my hip, and waits while I breathe through it — until the strangeness settles into something present. Intimate. Like being held from the inside.

“Color?”

“Green.” Barely a word.

He presses lightly against the base and the sound that comes out of me isn’t voluntary.

Then the vibrator arrives without warning, firm and certain, and the sound I make next echoes off the walls.

“Remember, no coming without permission.”

The first edge is fast. The pressure builds, my breathing changes, my thighs tighten — and then it’s gone, pulled back before I tip over, and I’m left with nothing but the awful fullness of the plug and the specific agony of almost.

The second time he’s slower. He builds it in increments — pressure, then more pressure, then the angle shifting just slightly until my thighs are shaking and my fingers are white against the bench and I can hear myself making sounds I can’t control.

He takes me right to the edge, holds me there for three horrible seconds, and pulls back.

“Please—” The word comes out before I’ve decided to say it.

“Please what?”

“Please, Sir, please—”

“Please what, Vera. Use your words.”

“Please tell me to come, please, I can’t—“

“You can.” His hand settles on my lower back, warm and steady, while the vibrator starts again.

At some point my hair has stuck to my cheek and I can’t move it. I don’t care. I have stopped being a person who cares about things like that.

There’s only this. Only him. Only the thing he’s building in me that I can’t control.

“This—” His voice drops low, unhurried, the vibrator easing back just enough to keep me hovering. “This is what happens when you push your Dom’s buttons all through dessert.”

“Sir, please—”
