Chapter 23 #3
“See how easy that is?” I shook my hair out of my eyes.
“Nobody else here matters. Dancing is a feeling, not an Olympic sport. Let the music in. Allow your body to respond. You just have to find your rhythm.” With each passing second, he relaxed.
His hands moved around my hips and up my back, and my stomach was doing somersaults.
Why do I feel so nervous around him? I don’t get nervous.
It was the eye contact. Our connection was unlike any I’d experienced, and whenever our eyes met, it was as if all my secrets were laid bare.
I was momentarily distracted by a Vampire driving his fangs into a woman’s neck as she curled her fingers in his hair.
Freaks.
A short woman interrupted us. “Can I offer you an experience?” Red light emanated from her fingertips.
Krys gave the Sensor a passing glance. “We don’t need your magic. We’ve got our own.”
Those words burned into my memory for all time.
Krys walked me into the wall, and the dance stopped. My heavy breaths slowed as he leaned in, one arm braced against the wall. Instead of a kiss, he stroked my cheek, his sexy blue eyes smoldering as he watched me like a wolf.
“Were you trying to make me jealous by kissing that guy?” I asked.
His lips brushed against my ear. “Maybe I just needed to know.”
“If you liked him?”
“You turn me on, and I wanted to know if it was because of you or the fact that you’re a guy.”
“And now you’re sure.”
He pinned me with his gaze and slid his fingers around my neck. “Yeah, I’m sure. I didn’t feel a damn thing with him. If I kissed every man in here, I’d feel the same. It’s you. It’s always been you.”
My brow furrowed. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Cold feet” was a term I’d heard in passing but never experienced until now.
“It means I want you.”
Still ambiguous.
“You’re better off with Couch Kisser.”
His eyebrow arched. “Maybe I am. You’re too fucking loud, and you dance on tables like it’s the roaring twenties.
You know all the lyrics to the Gilligan’s Island theme song.
You do handstands and other crazy shit that’ll get you killed.
And every time I see you checking someone out or flirting, I want to grab you and pin you to the wall.
” Krys moved his hand down my chest and held it over my heart.
Then he leaned in to my right ear and growled, “You have a fucking chokehold on me.”
I clutched on to this moment as if it were the last star in the sky. My intense feelings for him terrified me, and every time he touched me that way, possessed me with his words, claimed me… I was sliding deeper into love.
In that moment, I fell for him as hard as the chair crashing on top of his back.
“What the fuck?” Krys growled.
I stepped away from the wall and looked up.
Mohawk Man pointed at me, seething. “That was meant for you!”
Krys rubbed his shoulder with a quizzical brow. “Is he jealous?”
A peal of laughter escaped me. “You’re good, but you’re not that good.”
Krys gave me a playful shove as another chair crashed onto the floor.
Mohawk leaned over the wall. “You wanna run up my bill? Then let’s add some fucking chairs to yours!” Another one sailed onto the floor and struck the Vampire, who continued sipping his date.
The maniac straightened up. “I’m gonna kick your ass.”
When he dipped out of sight, I steeled myself.
Krys gave me an admonishing look. “What the hell did you do?”
I stripped out of my shirt and folded it. If my wolf came out, I didn’t want to destroy my favorite ripped shirt. “I may or may not have added a few drinks to his tab,” I admitted while attempting to remove my nipple piercing.
“When did you get those?”
“I was going to surprise you.” My hands were shaking, so I handed him my shirt and tried again. “I can’t get it off!”
Mohawk Man popped into view across the dance floor and stalked toward us while I frantically tried to unscrew the ball on the end of my piercing. Nothing was more painful than shifting with a piercing.
I darted across the room while holding my nipple. “Not yet! I’m not ready!”
Krys wasn’t about to intervene in this fight. At least not yet, anyhow. He crossed his arms and laughed when I finally got the second ring off.
Then I realized my wolf would never get out of these tight pants. He was pushing so hard against my skin that our thoughts fused.
Get him! Get him! Fight! Fight! Bite! Bite!
My wolf couldn’t speak, but those were his thoughts conveyed and translated.
Mohawk Guy swung his fist, and I ducked before punching him in the stomach. I circled the stout man and wrapped my arms around his waist to lift him and slam him onto the floor, but he was too heavy.
His elbow struck me in the eye, and I staggered before falling onto my back. After unzipping my pants, I frantically tried to get them off, but they twisted around my ankles.
Shit! My boots!
I kicked off one boot and scurried backward. Krys doubled over laughing as the scene unfolded. The dancing continued, though everyone moved out of the way.
Mohawk Man bent over and gripped my hair. When he reeled back his fist, Krys caught it and broke the man’s nose. Blood sprayed beneath the blue lights, and the air crackled with tension.
Krys stripped out of his shirt. “You wanna play? Let’s play.”
