Prologue
The Desert
Iwept, for I was not whole. Even as my shattered pieces came together, I continued to splinter. I gave so much, and yet they took.
I was the burrowing owl hunting for its next meal and the sand mouse it swallowed whole. I was the storms that split the air and the stillness that seemed to freeze time itself. I was all things, yet there was a tear at my core that threatened to unravel me.
Many searched my entire being and beyond for a way to heal me, but only my heart can heal itself. I prayed that I would find the balance I sought, and soon.
Time was running out.
