Chapter 5

ED

Then

Ed Nash and his mates had always had great success with the girls from the local Catholic girls’ sixth form.

There was this one blonde called Ginny who had the most amazing curvy figure.

Ginny always made a beeline for Ed. She was nice enough, but Ed only kept her sweet, because he really fancied her friend Evie.

Evie was just one of those girls that everyone wanted as their girlfriend.

She also had blonde hair, but hers looked more natural against Ginny’s brassy peroxide colour.

Evie really was a classic beauty. The type of girl who looked good dressed in anything.

As her and Ginny were always together, Ed managed to get to know her quite well.

There was a small group of boys and girls from both sixth forms who kind of hung out together in the local park, smoking and sometimes sharing a couple of cans of Fosters one of them had managed to take from home without their parents noticing.

Eventually, Ed and Evie started hanging back from the rest of the group.

They would meet from school and Ed would wait with Evie at the bus stop, passionately kissing until her bus arrived.

Neither of them cared about people looking as they were just lost in the moment until the day Evie’s headmistress caught them kissing at the bus stop.

They gave her the slip and then went back to Ed’s house.

Thankfully, his parents were out, and the kissing continued while they listened to one of Ed’s mixtapes upstairs in his bedroom.

That was until Paul showed up at the house unannounced.

Ed was always fascinated by Paul, as he never seemed to work but always had loads of cash.

He would often push a crumpled fiver into Ed’s hand with a wink, being careful that his parents didn’t see.

Ed was happy to have finally introduced Evie to Paul before she went home.

Not long after Evie left, Paul asked if there was any beer. He was obsessed with booze. He was continually drinking and smoking.

‘Yeah, sure. Dad’s got a load in the fridge. Just help yourself.’ Ed replied.

He then sat down on the leather sofa and put his muddy old Dr. Martens on one of Ed’s mum’s new cushions.

She’d be fuming if she found out. She wasn’t overly keen on Paul at the best of times, as she thought that he always got her husband into trouble.

She was probably right, because every time that Paul was with them, there was kind of an air of excitement in the house - well, it seemed that way for both Ed and his dad.

From the overflowing ashtray and the tower of empty lager cans building up on the coffee table it was clear just how Paul and Ed had spent their afternoon, just in time for Ed’s mum to see as she returned from work.

‘Paul, Ed, what on earth do you think you’re doing? Ed, have you been smoking and drinking?’ she shouted.

Ed went to stand up but, in his drunken and stoned state, lost his balance and fell flat on the floor, which in turn made Paul collapse on top of him in a fit of laughter.

Ed’s mum looked at them both in disgust, turned on her heel and stormed out of the house.

They just lay there laughing uncontrollably.

‘Fancy another beer, Ed?’

‘Yeah, why not?’ He readily agreed.

‘How about another joint?’

‘Sure.’

‘Tell you what, you get the beers, and I’ll teach you how to roll a joint properly. I think you could do with the practice.’ He slurred.
