Chapter 7

ED

Now

I can’t believe my luck and change of fortune over the last year, and it’s all thanks to that TV series using my song “Used to Be” and then the Netflix documentary featuring it together with classics like “Layla” and “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton, written about Pattie Boyd.

It has certainly stirred up quite a media storm, which I’m really benefitting from, but I’ve also started thinking back to those heady days when I was with Evie.

It’s such a shame we were forced apart, but I guess we were so young.

I do sometimes wonder if we would have got married and had kids had we stayed together.

That’s my one regret not having kids. Or perhaps our relationship would have just run its course.

After pretty much coasting along in life - just like my uncle Paul, as Mum always used to say - I’ve suddenly got a purpose.

The band have been offered a reunion tour, and the lads and I are well up for it.

We’re not young anymore, we’re all nearly pushing fifty, but I’m convinced we’ve still got the stamina to go on tour.

It’s all going to be televised by the Netflix documentary makers.

Perhaps Evie might come along and listen to her song?

Somehow, I don’t think that’s going to happen though.

I’ve just been contacted by Ginny (or Virginia, as she now goes by), who used to be good friends with Evie way back.

I feel a bit guilty about the way I used her to get to Evie all those years ago, but she doesn’t seem to hold a grudge.

She’s even suggested meeting up privately, as she’s just discovered some old photos of us all from when Evie and I were together.

She thinks the press will be really interested to see them, but she wants to run them by me first. I asked her to message me the photos privately, but she was very insistent in meeting up to show me the photos in person.

And to be honest, I’m quite intrigued to see Virginia again and see how life has treated her, so we’ve been messaging each other on Instagram to arrange a meeting.

She seems keen to meet me at my flat but I’m not so sure, so I may try and arrange to meet at hers or somewhere more neutral.

The press is all over me currently and they are closely monitoring who goes in and out of my flat, so I need to think of a way for us to meet up discreetly.

Quite a few of our old school friends have sold stories already with a few old photos, which is fine as far as I’m concerned.

Why should I be the only one to make a few bob out of the current hysteria?

But Virginia has hinted that the recent photos she’s found could be interesting. I’ll sleep on it.

I need a good night’s sleep, as I’m being interviewed by the morning TV magazine show called Wake Up and Smell the Coffee. I’m looking forward to showing them a bit of the Ed “Nasher” Nash charm. I’ll give Virginia and her photos some more thought tomorrow.
