Chapter 30 #2

Guess he really is upset about his breakup. I need to get out of here before I make him sadder.

“So, do you think we need to do any more work? I think we are in a good place, at least for the next two or three weeks.”

“Sure, yeah, I think we are good for next week.”

“Ok, great. I’m gonna head out then. I’ll see you on Monday.”

I quickly pack up, but notice he isn’t.

“Are you gonna hang out some more?”

“Yeah, I’m going to hang out and finish my tea.”

I know I’m oblivious sometimes, but I’m not that oblivious.

“Cory, when did you become a tea drinker? I swear you’ve said tea drinkers are stuffy assholes.”

“Well, maybe I’m a stuffy asshole.”

My laugh is slightly strained.

“Right, sure. Well I gotta go, see you at work.”

I feel weird about that entire exchange, but I think I’m jaded now after the last few months.

I still walk out quickly. There is a slight drizzle now, so I don’t waste time getting into my car.

I get buckled in, but take the time to read Don’s response first. Smiling at his sweet message, I almost miss the figure staring at me from the corner of the coffee shop, their hands clenched.

Even with their face completely shadowed by the hood they are wearing, I just know they are looking at me. I feel their eyes, staring.

What is going on today?

I don’t stick around to find out, driving away quickly to meet Don.

We walk into Brent’s with bags of take out. Don told me at the restaurant that we are feeding everyone tonight. We are going to have a quiet night in with movies. I can’t wait; I don’t even care what movie they picked, a movie night sounds perfect.

Setting the food bags on the kitchen island, I don’t even pause to say hi to anyone. I’m on a mission to get into something comfy. I race to the bedroom, quickly stripping out of my slightly damp clothes. I sigh when my bra comes off, the girls don’t like to be confined.

I’m practically skipping into the kitchen a short time later. Aiden spots me first, and he grins seeing how good of a mood I’m in.

“Someone’s excited.”

I nod, smiling widely.

“It’s been so long since I’ve had a movie night with friends, I can’t help it.”

Aiden chuckles, responding to my happiness.

“Then you are going to love what Cam is doing to the living room right now.” He nods his head in the direction of the living room. “Go on and look.”

Intrigued, I leave Aiden to his task of making drinks, and go to investigate. My grin spreads even wider across my face as I take in the sight of Cam putting sheets on blow up mattresses. I must make a noise because Cam looks up from what he is doing and laughs as he takes in my excitement.

“Wanna help?”

“Absolutely!”

I hastily climb over the couch to help him with the rest of the sheets and blankets. When we finish, we both stand back and admire our handiwork. The living room has been converted into one large bed, a large projector screen has been rolled down, and the space is ready for an epic movie night.

Cam and I grin at each other, high-five, and then I proceed to do the silliest happy dance ever. I’m not a dancer, but I can’t help but wiggle my body in excitement. Cam raises an eyebrow at me and a throat clearing makes me pause my dancing mid wiggle.

A blush spreads across my face and neck as Brent stands there, hands laden with our take out food, eyeing me critically.

“If you got time to dance, then you got time to help me grab all the food, princess.”

I blow out a heavy breath, navigating around the moved furniture, walking past Brent to head back into the kitchen.

I spy another tray and get busy putting the rest of the take out on it, grabbing utensils and extra plates.

I just finished getting everything set on the tray and am going to head into the living room, when a hard warm body presses up against my back.

“Don’t you think it’s a little cold for you to be wearing that, princess?”

Brent has leaned down and whispers those words directly into my ear. I growl, as I turn around, shoving him off me. I’ve had just about enough of his attitude, and it’s going to stop right now.

“What is your problem, Brent? Is this still about the car because you are the one that keeps insisting that the car doesn’t matter any time I apologize. So please, tell me what your fucking problem is because if I’m not welcome here anymore, I will leave. Right fucking now.”

I’m seething, my temper boiling hot. I have noticed since the guys have been trying to push my powers into manifesting that my beast is quicker to rise and so is my temper.

I expect him to be angry, but shock is what is written on his face.

He also stares a little too long at my tits before his eyes come up to meet mine.

My fists clench, and I wonder if I will have a better chance of punching his face or punching him in the dick.

He must see the violence that glitters in my eyes because he finds his words and gets to talking.

“Fuck, no, I don’t want you to leave. Goddess, Kinley, you are always welcome in my home.”

“Then what is the problem?”

He growls, running his hands through his hair, pulling it free from the top knot he put it in.

When he looks at me next, his eyes have that eerie glow that lets me know just how close his beast is to the surface.

His mouth opens, but he stiffens and looks over his shoulder, directly at the audience we now have accumulated.

Don, Cam, and Aiden are all staring as if they too are waiting for him to answer.

“Fuck, can I talk to you in my office? Please?”

My eyes narrow, I peer around his large frame until my eyes meet Don’s. He nods his head at me.

Is he encouraging me to go talk with Brent?

Go talk to him, baby. It’s fine.

My head rolls back onto my shoulders until I’m staring at the ceiling. I sigh heavily.

“Fine, let’s go, but if you don’t answer my question, I will punch you in the dick.”

A choked off laugh comes out of Aiden and Cam, and I turn my glare onto them.

“I swear to all things holy that there better be food left when I get back or I’m siccing Beretta and Indy on you all.”

I stomp off down the hall towards Brent’s office. And to think I had been in such a great mood. Fucking men.
