Chapter 9 Thayla #4

“Then each god placed their object within the original Binding and allowed the power of all of them to infuse it.

The difference being more essence from the god touching it embedded itself.

They did this so they could go their separate ways, so to speak.

The realm was growing and they wanted to venture, not always be stuck together here in the Godsdawn with the original Binding.

“All that time, no matter where they were, the Beginning Gods were constantly feeding and recycling their power into the Binding, which by that point, had become sentient. It was recycling the Beginning and Domain Gods, and its power into the realm. You could feel it vibrate through your feet if you stood in the grass. This system was working wonders for the realm until…”

I gasp as it clicks for me. “The portal to Elementra closed.”

“Exactly. Her power had also begun mingling in the realm, strengthening and fueling it as well.”

I know where he’s going.

“I freaking knew it! The Beginning Gods used the Binding to suck all the power back out of the realm and from the people. It was never the Valories.”

“You are correct again. Partially. The loss of Elementra’s power made most of the Beginning Gods panic, so they decided until they could replicate or produce their own at the same or a greater level than hers, they’d store it all into the Gods Binding.

They originally took everyone’s, including their precious Domain Gods’, but quickly realized taking care of that great number of ungodly beings was something they didn’t want to do.

So they created the Gods Veil and sent their Chosens through it to give them their power back.

“What they didn’t realize until many years later, because they never bothered to pay attention, was how rooted the power of the Binding was in the realm itself.

The Gods Binding, of its own accord, refused to pull all the power out of the realm.

The regions with no godly abilities can still feel it.

There’s proof of it everywhere. The creatures that still roam, to the fields that flourish in Oddian, housings with self-running water and lighting systems, and so many other examples.

A sliver still lives in the essence of the people born here. ”

I hold my hand up for him to stop as my mind whirls and the pieces of all the information I know start making sense to me.

“From the moment we’re born, our essence enters the realm, the realm recycles it back to the Gods Binding, the Binding senses and stores it. We enter the Veiling and the essence that’s been sitting there, waiting, recognizes it and already knows what to do with it.”

“Very, very good, Thayla. By the time the Beginning Gods realized this, they were already attempting their hand at the Valtrues and saw they weren’t working properly. They decided they needed to give more power back to a select few and see how it went.

“The Volreen was created, same as the replicas were, with the exception that all Beginning Gods touched it during its infusion and eventually the Veiling Day came. Their initial intentions were to be the ones who decided who was Chosen. They once again got tired of that responsibility and decided to have the Gods Binding select the Chosen based on strength and they would control the amount of power released and the pairings of Valtrues.”

“But no one ever stated which kind of strength.”

“Yes. The Binding weighs strength based on what strength is needed and will benefit the realm.

When you go into the Gods Veil, your essence that has been sitting there growing, attaches back to you, and along with it, the power you were always meant to have will start flowing through your body and soul.

It begins by changing you physically. Such as your sight, healing, and natural strength.

“Then it will move to the part of your body where your powers will come through the best. It’ll find its home there, so you become more aware and in tune with it.

Your mind, heart, stomach, fingers, wherever that may be within you.

Then you must accept it. And that concludes my lesson. Amick will pick up from there.”

My head jerks at his abrupt end as Seismet lets out a huff that’s mixed with a laugh.

“Hold on, you can’t just end like that. I have about a million questions about what else the Binding can do, what really caused the rift between the Beginning Gods. When did your kind and the Veilatara come into play? All kinds of stuff. Plus, what do you even mean by you have to accept it?”

“All of those questions you will get answers to over time. I’m not sure why you want to know right this minute anyway when you don’t handle information overload very well. And it means exactly as I said. You must accept your power.”

“First off, that was rude. I handle information overload just fine when I want to. Secondly, I have accepted my power, and it still doesn’t listen to me.”

I swear they just stare at me with their all-knowing eyes.

Seismet bumps my crossed arms with his head. “We have two different definitions of accepting. Our definition is correct, and I’m not sure what yours is, but it’s obviously not the same as ours.”

I seriously don’t know what he’s getting at.

I know what accepting is.

“You haven’t accepted you’re a god. Therefore, whatever your power is will continue to defy you because it knows you don’t want it.”

“Shit,” I screech, whipping around at that dark, seemingly annoyed tone. “Why did you sneak up on me?”
