Chapter 39 Riven

Riven

“The barrier shines so bright,

The barrier shines so bright.

The power thrumming through my veins—”

“So what’s it like being the sons of a fucked-up, evil god?”

My sneer turns toward that simpering-ass voice. “Jerry, if you don’t quit interrupting my song, I’m going to offer you up as a sacrifice to our father so you can see for yourself.”

“Your—”

“Don’t,” Gladdy Daddy orders, and I shoot him a wink for his support.

I should offer him up as well.

“You doing okay, son?” Big DD asks as he peers over his shoulder at me.

“Divine.”

My little burden runs her knuckles along mine and I shiver at the delicious sensation of her skin touching me.

Now that we’ve all had this glorious boost, I can almost pinpoint the chaos sitting in the top of her belly, right under her perfect breast.

I wonder if I can coax it out.

“Did you have a productive week, little troublling?”

“I did. The guys are probably a little exhausted from all the work I put them through. Did you?”

If she’s referring to my hand being exhausted, she’d be correct.

“Unfortunately, no. As you can see.”

Her nose scrunches as she casts her gaze over to Gladdy and his Valtrue. Unlike us, they’ve lined themselves up in a straight line, with their hands behind their backs and heads held high.

I don’t know who the hell they’re trying to impress.

If our father wanted to, he could wave his hand, and I know four of them who would be gone like the wind in a second. Gladian could probably hold off for about ten seconds.

Kyzen and I have our Binder tucked snug in the middle of us. The poor, vicious, delicious thing can’t even see around Creed, Amick, and Derivius as they stand in front of her like a formidable wall.

My eyes keep peeking over Amick’s shoulder to check on the Binding he has sitting in his palms.

We’ve got to make sure that precious package gets delivered safely.

The barrier ripples like a rock being dropped in a puddle as Kelshin steps through. His eyes scan over us for a heartbeat, then he steps backward, disappearing once again.

“Here we go,” Derivius sighs and I chuckle.

That sound dies on my lips as not only Kelshin, my father, and four other guards’ step through, so does the Goddess of Seduction.

Fucking bitch.

Yes, she is most certainly where my disdain for blonde gods and or goddesses comes from.

Her vile, disgusting gaze runs over each of us, stopping on me or Derivius for a second too long.

Thayla grips my fingers as Amick lays his palm to Derivius’s when we both attempt to step forward.

I’m going to slit her throat.

She doesn’t react other than smirking as she continues her examination, pausing once again on Gladian as she makes it to his Valtrue.

“My boys,” our sperm donor says as he opens his arms. I don’t know what the fuck for. “Come on now, spread out, let me see all of you. Thayla as well.”

Our muscles bunch, but we don’t move. Even as his glare becomes one full of warning.

“It’s all right,” Derivius says, reaching behind him and gripping Thayla by the arm.

He pulls her to his side, leaving the spot beside Amick open for me.

She tucks in nicely between us chaos creators and my smile tells my father and his bitch to try something if they want to.

“Good, very good. You all look well, and it seems your travel among the ungodly wasn’t too rough.”

Again, none of us speak. We stare.

I can fucking promise we didn’t come here for whatever this weird-ass conversation is.

He eventually rolls his eyes and ushers his hand toward Sabelline.

“Derivius, love, be a doll and bring me my Binding. It’s fitting for the one who stole it to return it, don’t you think?”

We all startle and look at him.

His deadly glare stays pinned to her, though, even as he stretches his hand across Thayla, toward Amick.

That was a little detail he seemed to leave out of his story.

He clutches the Binding, staring into it intently before finally taking his first step forward.

The confident strides he takes don’t fool me. His chaos wafts back here toward me like the smell of yummy cookies floating in the air.

I could gobble that shit up.

“Think fast,” he says, then tosses it in the air to her.

She stutter-steps, catching it against her chest, and an outraged huff falls from her lips as a belly-gripping laugh comes from mine.

“You imbecile,” she screeches.

He turns his back to her as he walks toward us with a pleased smile on his face.

“Desperate bitch.”

“Shit. I didn’t realize they hated each other,” Thayla mumbles and I hum.

“Hate isn’t a strong enough word.”

“Well, there you have it. The boys and Thayla fulfilled their end of your demand, Kira, and accomplished something none of us have been able to. They’ll be going now.”

“Oh no, they won’t.” Sabelline’s mocking voice stabs my eardrums and my blue eye twitches. “They didn’t follow the rules, my dear.”

A sickly satisfied smile crosses our father’s face as he looks over at her as she grips her Binding. Her eyes blaze as she senses the essence or energy, whatever the fuck it is she’s doing.

My heart drops to my asshole when he turns that elated gaze toward us.

“Is that so?”

“Well, a certain someone tried but failed to tamper with it.”

“Oh, Thayla sweetheart, you make me—”

“It’s not her essence, sadly. She really would’ve made a scrumptious addition. Who is it that always meddles when he knows better?”

My father’s power shoots from his hand as his face clouds in fury.

I jump in front of Amick and his familiar coils wrap around my body, squeezing the breath from my lungs.

“I can see how this is probably confusing for the two of you. Neither of you thinks beyond what’s in your pants.”

My name rips from Thayla’s throat as my father snatches me forward. My knees hit the ground before him and his hand wraps around my jaw, shoving my head back so he can look in my eyes.

“I do loathe when my most disappointing offspring impresses me. How did you manage to wrap Amick’s essence around the Binding?”

“You’d love to know, wouldn’t you?”

My purely chaotic giggle tears free when he slings me to the side.

Unfortunately, it dies just as quickly when my harmony rushes forward, fighting off Sabelline’s power as she grabs a handful of my hair.

“Now, Riven, my sweet boy. Your daddy warned you all there would be consequences if my Binding was tampered with. Were you craving to come home? You could’ve asked at any time. The feeders and I have missed your harmony so much.”

“Let him go, Kira,” Derivius warns, voice full of pent-up worry.

My father twirls me around so I can face my brothers and my Binder. The look of pure rage and fear skirting across my angel’s eyes guts me.

“Sure, Chaos. Send the girl over.”

“Excuse me?”

“The rules were clear. Fail to retrieve the Binding, Thayla would be joining me. Tamper with the Binding and there’d be consequences. Well, these are the consequences I choose. The one who tampered will be returning with me. Unless you’re willing to make a trade. As I said, we’ll take Thayla.”

“You mother—”

Amick slaps a hand over Thayla’s mouth and wraps his arm around her waist to hold her back.

I give Derivius one look and a nod.

He tightens his lips and returns the gesture. My father’s boisterous laugh surrounds me and my powers battle for dominance.

Sabelline’s hand slams down on my shoulder, and my mind settles as my harmony comes forward full force.

Not a tinge of chaos in my belly.

My swirling blue irises lock on furious, shattering stained glass as her soul wages war to reach mine.

Pray for me, my angel.
