Thayla #2
Shitty that we’re late for the Attendants on our first day back, but we’ll be there soon enough.
There are some things I need to know first.
Okay, need is a stretch. Want to know.
“Have you had sex with your whole Valtrue now?” I ask Yemi and V hoots so loud I’m surprised he doesn’t burst my damn eardrum.
“That’s my cue to leave.”
He starshoots away faster than I can bark out a laugh.
“You have no shame in your nosiness, do you?” Yemi asks, smirking at me.
“When it comes to you, no, not at all. Especially when they all just kissed you and Sevryn only rolled his eyes a little.”
“I can’t deny that I don’t think these questions. I just don’t ask,” Rose says, smiling and raising her brows at me.
Yemi glares at both of us before giving up the charade and sighing. I could squeal with excitement but don’t so she doesn’t change her mind.
“When Nero got his disownment decree after Amick’s trial and everything else, he was open and honest with me about his family. We’re getting on the same page now. Slow and steady. My relationship progressed with Iric last night,” she mutters.
Rose and I stare wide-eyed at one another. I could jump up and down in happiness. I don’t…but could.
This is so exciting.
“So, you’ve bedded three out of the four.”
“Gods, Thayla, don’t say bedded,” she groans.
“Well, I figured fucked sounded a little crude and I was trying to be proper with my highly personal questions.”
“You’re so full of shit.” She laughs, shaking her head. Eventually, though, she clears her throat and glances down at her feet. “Only two out of the four.”
My head tilts and my forehead wrinkles.
“I thought you just said Iric’s and your relationship progressed last night?”
“It did. So, he and Sevryn.”
My mouth parts.
“What—I don’t even know what to ask. Obviously, things are great between you and Doren.”
“Oh yeah, amazing, but…he asked for more time. I’m impatiently patiently waiting.”
I gape at her. The sexual frustration is utterly clear now that she’s said something. She literally leans closer to him when he’s around.
“You know it has nothing to do with you, right?” I ask.
“Oh yeah, I know. It honestly makes the anticipation so intense I could suffocate. I’m also incredibly nervous about when it does happen. I mean, it’s a lot of pressure, you know? I haven’t even been alive as long as it’s been since he’s had sex.”
Yeah, I do.
I would’ve died if I knew Riven was a virgin beforehand.
I would’ve been so self-conscious and hyper worried that I wasn’t making it good enough for him.
“It’s going to be perfect when it happens. Doren’s so in love with you that I’m sure he’s worried about the same exact things. He’s probably very concerned about making it amazing for you,” I tell her, gripping her arm.
“Or it’ll be super funny like Lambrit and me. We both were so nervous we fumbled around cluelessly, laughed about it, then found our rhythm.”
Oh gods.
I force my face to stay neutral. I refuse to show any disgust. If she wants to share, she can, and I will support her no matter the bile in my throat.
“You’re both right. However it happens, it’ll be amazing because I finally have him. Except…”
“What?” Rose and I ask at the same time.
“He flat-out told me he wants to be last.”
We shriek what once again and stare at her, dumbfounded.
“Yep. Why? Hell, if I know. He just said it was important to him, and it’d make sense once we all were together.”
I couldn’t tell her either. Him wanting to wait? Completely understand. It’s been a while and I’m sure that’s something he needs to work the courage back up for.
Wanting to be the last in the Valtrue? Completely beats me.
“All right, enough of this conversation. The last thing I want is everyone in the Court to hear anything about my sex life,” Yemi whisper-yells as we approach the entrance of the Court.
Our laughter echoes down the hall and I smirk teasingly at her. The feature fades as stomps heading our way steal my attention.
Gladian slows his steps as he grows closer to us.
“You two go ahead,” I say.
They carry on, sparing Gladian a glance as they pass him by.
“Godrun,” he says.
“Gladian.”
We stand here awkwardly, staring at one another. I have so many questions, but I don’t want to ask them at the same time.
“I’ll see you later,” he finally grunts.
My fingers curl at my sides as he steps past me.
“Is it true?” I ask, not turning around to face him.
“I don’t want to do this right now, Thayla.”
“Well, when?” I spin around. “If it’s true, he deserves—”
“Deserves? He hates me.”
“Okay, and? Sevryn believes you at one point in time were best friends with his father, and that you’re also the reason his father’s so committed to the God of Obliteration. He’s never been told another story, so if there is one, you should tell him.”
“It’s much more complicated than that.”
“Are you or are you not his uncle? Did Mellcom just use the term loosely or was he serious?”
His comment sent confusion through not only me but my men. We’ve all just been waiting, debating how to bring this up. The last thing any of us wanted to do was just take Mellcom at his word and tell Sevryn something that wasn’t true.
I really don’t know what it’ll change, but it’s still something he deserves to know.
He clenches his fists at his sides and holds my glare.
“Yes, I am his uncle.”
“Then he deserves the truth.”
After an intense moment of him staring at me, I scoff and turn back around.
