Chapter Sixteen #2

‘More,’ she said. Luke gave her a feral grin before disappearing only long enough to get a condom, and then he was inside her even before they’d managed to get all their clothes off.

She held on to his shoulders for stability while he pumped into her, her legs wrapped around his waist. He seemed to know the exact tempo that she needed right now.

It was fast, hot and honestly incredible.

Her orgasm came with a scream (gosh, she was glad the bakery downstairs wasn’t open yet), and after he shuddered through his own, they lay intertwined on the sofa, catching their breath.

‘So . . . do you have any more praise for me now?’ Luke asked.

Blair laughed, smacking his shoulder. ‘You know you’re good, Caldwell. You don’t need me to tell you.’

‘Maybe I do.’

Blair chuckled, then leaned up to whisper into his ear. ‘You’re not just good, Luke, you’re the best I’ve ever had.’ That probably wasn’t a wise thing to say to a friend with benefits, but the hum of contentment from Luke as he hugged her close was worth it.

As much as Blair hated to leave, it was late. She had to go. ‘My sisters will worry.’ She disentangled herself to look for her tights.

‘So, when will I see you again?’ Luke asked. He was still lying on the sofa with most of his big, beautiful body on display. It was taking all of Blair’s self-control not to climb back on top of him.

Blair slid her tights back on. ‘I don’t know. But the café closes at six tomorrow.’

He grinned. ‘Can I ask . . . is there a reason we can’t do this in your house? My bed is so small. If you think I’m good now, then I’d love to show you what I can do with more space.’

Blair laughed. Actually, she’d love to see what they could both do with more space and more comfort. But bringing him home would mean telling her sisters.

‘I don’t think your sisters would disapprove of you enjoying yourself,’ Luke said, maybe reading her mind.

Blair exhaled. It wasn’t that Blair thought they’d disapprove, in fact she suspected that they’d be thrilled that Blair was having a no-strings-attached fling with Luke.

It was more that Blair kind of selfishly wanted to keep this to herself.

Wanted these trysts with Luke to be an escape from the huge weight on her shoulders, and she couldn’t deny that Belinda and Bianca were a lot of that weight.

‘It’s . . . complicated.’ Blair noticed the hint of disappointment in his face. She went back to the sofa and sat on the edge, Luke shifting over to give her more space. ‘Believe me, this is so much more fun if we keep it uncomplicated.’

He nodded but didn’t say anything. Blair leaned down, meeting his lips, hoping to show Luke how much fun uncomplicated could be. But when his hand went behind her neck to pull her in, she had to pull back, or she was never going to get home. ‘I’ll see you soon, okay?’

He smiled. ‘Okay, Blair. Text me when you’re home safe tonight.’

‘It’s Moonbeam Hollow. What could happen to me here?’ She’d been wandering the town alone at night since she was old enough to cross the street.

‘A lot. Just text me, okay?’

‘I will.’ Blair put on her boots and left.

When Blair walked into her house on Acorn Lane, Belinda, Bianca and Kass were all in the living room.

Belinda had a heavy book and stacks of paper on her lap, Bianca was sitting on the floor in front of her computer on the coffee table, and Kass was perched on the armrest of the chair Belinda was sitting on. All three looked deep in thought.

‘Look what the cat dragged in,’ Bianca said, which made Kass let out a disapproving meow. Kass was not a fan of idioms involving cats. ‘Chill, cat,’ Bianca said, glaring at Kass.

‘What are you guys doing?’ Blair asked. She didn’t remember the last time Belinda and Bianca looked so focused together.

‘Comparing notes,’ Belinda said. ‘I found some illuminating information in some online archives today. Did you know that before Moonbeam Hollow was incorporated, there was a whole community of witches living here? At least we think they were witches.’

Blair’s eyes widened. ‘What? Seriously?’ Blair pulled off her leather boots and sat on the sofa. ‘How . . . why . . . where did you find this out?’

Belinda raised a brow at Blair. ‘Um, I just said? Online archives? I’ve been searching old records since my mythology search went nowhere, and Bianca told me that the mayor isn’t a witch.’

Blair looked at Bianca, blinking. How did Bianca even know that Blair had wondered if Hazel Fairwood was a witch? Blair was very confused. ‘Back up, both of you. You guys have still been researching on your own?’

Bianca glared at Blair. ‘Of course we have. We were all supposed to be trying to figure out what was going on, weren’t we? I know you’ve been busy bumping uglies with your ex every spare moment, but the rest of us haven’t been slacking off.’

Blair froze. Bianca knew about her and Luke?

‘Close your mouth, Blair,’ Bianca said. ‘You look like a fish.’

Belinda laughed at that.

Blair’s head whipped to Belinda. ‘You knew too?’

Belinda raised one brow. ‘I mean, it wasn’t hard to figure out. We were actually at Jade Garden picking up kung pao when you texted that you were there.’

‘Yeah, but we knew before tonight,’ Bianca added. ‘Raj saw you two making out at the farmers’ market. We followed you a few times until we finally saw you sneaking up to Luke’s apartment.’

Blair closed her mouth, taking a few deep breaths. ‘I . . . I mean, we’re . . .’ If Raj knew, then his wife Aarushi definitely knew, and that meant Melody probably knew, too. If Melody told Agatha, then the whole town would know. Was that why Agatha was looking at Luke strangely earlier?

‘Don’t deny it, Blair,’ Bianca said. ‘We don’t have a problem with you and Luke. Seriously, we both like him. It’s fine. Wish you would have told us, though.’

Blair squeezed her lips together. Why hadn’t they told her that they knew? ‘I’m not surprised that you two got back together so quickly,’ Belinda added. ‘Luke was always your one and only.’

‘We’re not back together,’ Blair said quickly. ‘It’s casual. Friends with benefits.’

Bianca snorted a laugh. ‘You can’t FWB an ex. It’s impossible. Too many feelings.’
