Chapter 12

Irested my elbows on the railing and watched Daphne flail in the water with a shit-eating grin.
The waves swallowed her screams. She was too busy coughing and choking up half the ocean for me to hear much anyway. All her thrashing was basically ringing a dinner bell for any hungry sharks.
Shame if one made her a snack.
I stepped out of the shadows to a chorus of horrified gasps, counting the seconds Daphne disappeared under each wave.
“Get her a lifebuoy!” someone shouted.
Tossing women off yachts wasn’t exactly a regular hobby of mine. But nothing involving Daphne was ever normal.
I wasn’t jumping in after her. I’d already saved her once this week from going over a cliff. Sure, I was the one who had created both dangerous situations, but semantics.
Like fucking Prince Charming, Cory jumped over the railing after her.
I wanted to follow him. Not to save Daphne. She could swim. I wanted to hold Cory’s head underwater until the bubbles stopped.
I’d never hated anyone this much. Not even Peter, and I’d fucking killed him.
Cory reached her and wrapped his arm around her waist. He pulled her shivering body against his chest as Daphne clung to him.
My fingers dug into the railing. I wanted to put a bullet through the back of his skull as they started swimming back to the dock.
I’d fucked myself while trying to punish her. I’d thrown my biggest problem straight into another man’s arms.
Fine.
I’d just have to rip her back out of them.
