Chapter 55
Fifty-Five
Brooks
Ichugged the rest of my whiskey and dragged the back of my hand across my mouth. “I’m not fucking going to Calira.”
We were all in the Devil’s Lair, and Enzo had just dropped the biggest fucking bomb imaginable.
He and Blair had decided to elope next weekend.
Next fucking weekend.
And where was the venue? In fucking Calira.
Blair really had her claws in him if she’d convinced Enzo Marchetti to get married halfway across the world. Hell, she probably had the entire Marchetti family wrapped around her finger by now.
“Bring Rachel,” Enzo said.
Blair shoved Enzo’s shoulder, then swung that irritation straight toward me. “Do not bring Rachel. She doesn’t get an invite.”
“She’d be his plus-one,” Enzo argued.
“She’d be put right back on the plane,” Blair fired back, pointing at me. “No one’s ruining my wedding, and no one is hurting my best friend.”
“Exactly why I won’t be there,” I replied. “I’ll be sure to send an expensive-ass gift instead.”
Enzo shot me a look like he had some authority over me. “Your gift will be you there.”
“You don’t even have to speak to Daphne,” Blair said, trying her best to reason with me.
“Come on,” Nico said. “Everyone’s going. We’ll make it fun.”
My mind flashed back to the last time I’d been in Calira, when I’d told Enzo I’d be the one to walk Daphne down the aisle at his and Blair’s wedding.
I couldn’t do that now.
But watching another man walk her down the aisle?
I’d rather take a fucking bullet.
Thinking about her was hard enough.
But seeing her? God, it’d destroy me.
“Sorry.” I pushed to my feet. “Not doing it.”
“Go with me, Brooks.”
Adelina’s soft voice stopped me.
She sat curled into the corner of the couch with her hands tucked under her thighs. “Please.”
