Chapter Thirty - IVAN #2

Lidiya brought her camera to dinner and starts taking photos for us. When Dmitri asks who gives Emma away, Boris stands and says that he and Marina do. Maksim pulls out the wedding bands I had custom made for us.

When Dmitri declares us husband and wife, I kiss Emma with all the passion I can muster. She is not only the mother of my children and the love of my life, she is now officially my wife.

“Ivan, wait a minute,” Emma says when she breaks the kiss to catch her breath. “We don’t have a marriage license.”

“That’s where I come in,” Grigory interrupts. He pulls out our marriage license and a pen. “Sign this, and I’ll take it to the judge who is currently waiting downstairs.”

We both sign the license, and Grigory whisks it away to deliver it to the judge. When he returns, we continue celebrating with dessert and laughter.

Later that night, after we make love, Emma and I talk about the future and what it will look like now that we’re going to have children.

“No matter what, we’ll get through it. Ye tebya lyublu, Ivan. I love you always,” Emma says.

“Ya tebya lyublu, Emma. I love you always,” I echo her sentiment as I kiss her.

She is my heart and soul.

She is the air that I need to breathe.

She is my wife.
