Chapter Three Prick #2
"Well if you just broke your word and told me more about him." Cazandra's lips went white with the pressure of her teeth holding them together. Adan sighed in defeat. "Very well." She rose from her favourite chair and headed for the door.
"Adan." She turned to look towards her friend. "Stay away from Lord Lennox Hollow." She warned while giving her a soft smile before flashing her fangs. "For as long as you can."
-
Adan left the Pearl with her head and heart fighting for dominance.
With every step she took away from the fortified building, her anger won out.
She was angry at Czandra for doubting her skill.
She was angry with Hollow sticking his nose in where it doesn't belong and she was always angry with the king, for obvious reasons. She was always angry with the king.
She was almost ready to set the whole city ablaze by the time she reach Plaza Roe in the lux quarter.
A place in the City of Bones that always brought her peace and solace.
The shopping district, the thought should make her squirm, reminding her that she was no different than those preening courtiers that she loathed deeply.
That she was a walking hypocrite with every note she spent.
She could not deny, however, how much she loved luxury.
It was in her blood. She loved the high fabrics and the elaborate shoes, the expensive adornments.
She had so little light in her life that she wouldn't let her own thoughts ruin these moments.
She was standing pensively outside a boutique staring at the shop window.
A stunning dress of layered lace and crinoline stared back at her.
It changed from grey to pink in certain lights.
The perfect ruching ending in pleated flowers of pale pink and dusted white.
The bodice was tight and sleeveless, the dress mesmerized Adan.
So much so she did not see or sense the male standing beside her.
"The last place I expected to find the kings assassin, hard at work." The deep tone belonged to none other than Lennox Hollow. She sighed to herself without looking away from the dress. She could see his tall frame mirrored beside hers in the glass.
So much for staying away.
She turned on her heal to spit some snide remark in his face, unfortunately the sight of it made her mouth run dry and her heart pound.
Adan had avoided most people, Lennox Hollow included.
Which meant she had never really got a good look at him before.
Now with him just an inch away there was no ignoring him now.
Beautiful didn't begin to describe this man.
The thought alone made her even angrier.
Even with her heels on he was still a foot taller, causing her to crane her neck.
His strong jaw, full lips and straight nose had to of been chiseled by the gods themselves.
His dark onyx hair was perfectly ruffled, in that I-woke-up-this-way which only lead her to think about him in bed.
She forced her eyes down if only to save herself from blushing, but it only made it worse.
He matched his beauty with brutality. Swirls of black and grey tattoos covered his hands and neck that flowed into a pair of wide set shoulders.
His tailored dark clothing hide any specifics, but Adan guessed that his stomach was probably as chiselled as his jaw.
His hands rested on his tapered waste and his wide set legs angled towards her.
His body was fucking perfect. It made her see red at how fucking perfect he was.
She stepped back, only to have her body nock into the glass window of the shop.
Hollow's impressively large arms took that moment to cage her in, plastering a lazy smirk on his face.
Oh this male knew exactly the effect that he had on people.
She furrowed her brows and glared up at his piercing green eyes.
She was about to push hard against his chest to give herself some space when his scent hit her.
It was like a brick wall of the oak wood forest near the home she never thought about, right after a spring rain, mixed with something wild—crackling embers of a midnight fire.
Fuck.
She nearly dropped to her knees at the scent of it.
The thought of any male having that kind of power over her was completely unacceptable.
She locked down her senses, crossed her arms over her chest and checked her mental walls. With all the bags in her hands the act was not as graceful as she had hopped.
Those calculating green eyes saw it all and his smirk deepened as he leaned in closer. "Oh, we're going to have fun together, love."
The moniker snapped something inside of her, knocking her out of the lust filled haze that filled her brain and she lunged.
Her knee landed perfectly against his groin and his groan was music to his hears. He fell against the glass window and she ducked out from under his caged arms.
"You're right." She grinned, "that was fun." She moved to give him her back again, leaving him to lay prone against the wall when strong fingers curled around her wrist.
"You know I could have you killed for that."
It was true. Normally she was careful to not cause any extra trouble.
To hide in the shadows and only emerge to do the kings bidding, but this male—was dangerous.
Not just in the way he look and smelled, it was clear by the calloused fingers wrapped around her wrist he was also a trained warrior.
"But lucky for you I have better things to do, and we have a job to do."
She raised her chin in defiance, "Correction. I have a job to do, you can go back doing whatever it is you lords do."
He wrenched on her wrist and she dropped her bags.
