Chapter 9 Banquet Spotlight

I wore a wine-red strapless gown and held Xu Zhendong's arm as we entered the banquet hall.

I became the center of attention instantly.

Zhou Linchen's expression turned surprised.

Then his eyes lit up with what looked like admiration.

I hadn't dressed up like this in a long time.

His companion was indeed Zhou Qingyan.

Many people at the banquet discussed my relationship with Xu Zhendong.

Some even said our wedding was approaching.

Others argued that I was still Zhou Linchen's fiancée, so how could I marry an old man.

All the big shots from the business and tech worlds were here tonight.

I didn't explain anything and became a topic again.

But I met many people.

And following Xu Zhendong, I shook hands on a few private projects.

When I stepped onto the balcony alone to catch my breath, Zhou Linchen soon followed.

"Li Xia, how could you be Xu Zhendong's companion? Don't you know how old he is?"

I looked at him with amusement.

"Who made my fiancé bring someone else as his companion? I was free anyway, so I helped Mr. Xu to secure projects. What's wrong with that?"

Zhou Linchen hurried to explain.

"Qingyan had just returned from abroad. I only brought her to see the world."

I scoffed.

"Hasn't she seen enough of the world in her four years abroad? And every year on her birthday, you went abroad to travel with her."

I had known this secret for a long time.

Zhou Qingyan and I shared the same birthday.

In five years, he never celebrated mine.

The first year, he made an excuse about signing an urgent deal abroad.

But I saw Zhou Qingyan's Moments post.

They went skiing in Switzerland.

The second year, I thought he would join me and cooked a table full of dishes.

But his assistant told me he left the country the day before.

Zhou Qingyan updated her Moments that night too.

Zhou Linchen took her to an important banquet abroad.

The third year, on my birthday, I didn't wait or remind him.

Zhou Linchen heard this and looked guilty, avoiding my eyes.

He could only say helplessly.

"Li Xia, I'm sorry. Next time, I'll let you be my companion at banquets."

I shook my head with indifferent tone.

"No need in the future."

He wouldn't have the chance to invite me.

I didn't care.

Xu Zhendong's assistant hurried over.

He reminded me the party was nearing its end.

I turned back to Xu Zhendong's side.

Zhou Linchen opened his mouth, but the words to persuade me to return never came out.

Zhou Qingyan approached to pull him away.

"Zhou Linchen, I don't feel well. Can you take me home now?"

Zhou Linchen shook her off this time.

He angrily questioned me.

"Li Xia, what's going on?"
