Chapter 2 The Hearing Aid
In first grade, I started wearing the Hearing Aid.
Mom had it made into a strawberry hair clip shape so I would feel less ashamed.
But the connecting wire could not be hidden. It drew strange looks from classmates.
We moved to a new rental.
Mom got to know Aunt Lin who lived on the same floor.
Because Aunt Lin's son and I attended the same School and same class, the two adults often met while picking us up and grew familiar.
That was how I met Qin Chi.
From the first time I saw him, I did not dare meet his eyes.
He was not easy to approach.
Even though he was small, the way he looked at me was cold.
When Mom and Aunt Lin walked behind us chatting, Qin Chi would deliberately keep distance from me.
He also thought I was different.
In the whole School, I was the only one wearing a Hearing Aid. Everyone saw me as an outsider.
I had no friends at School.
Qin Chi was the opposite. Even at a young age he was an influential figure in class.
Despite his arrogant attitude, teachers and students liked him.
