Reid

Jenny and Owen were behind the table, cutting slices and taking money.

He was. She bought a slice of banana bread. It was down to the last two slices. The layer cake had a single piece left.

"You had no right," a man said. He reached into his pocket, pulled out a twenty, and pushed it through the slot in the cashbox. "She's a good person.”

A woman dropped an extra ten-dollar bill into the cashbox. "Tell Maya we're sorry."

The money was accumulating fast. Every bill in that box was someone changing their mind.

Reid watched as Owen handed over the last rice crispy treat.

They’d sold out.

"I'll take the cashbox," Jenny said. “We made a lot.”

It still wasn't enough. It was never going to be enough. He wanted to give Maya the world.
