Chapter 18 #2

“And if we don't find him first?”

Marcus looked down at her. “Then we make sure you're not alone. And we make sure you're ready.”

She looked at him for a moment. She’d begun to recognize how his face changed when he meant something completely, without any qualifier. She'd learned to recognize it, and she saw it now.

“I'm always ready,” she said. “I’m very cautious, and I won’t put myself into a position of being alone in an isolated area.

“I know you are, and I know you won’t.” He paused. “But that doesn’t mean I’m not worried. I am. Sue me, but you’re more than a witness. More than a cop on my task force. Believe me, I wouldn’t be sitting on Paulson’s couch with my arm around him.”

She laughed and dropped her head to his chest. “I have no idea what this is.”

“Neither do I, nor do I care. This is something that’s just for us. Will it go anywhere? Who knows. What I do know is I want to find out. I want to be with you, to spend time with you.”

She smiled at him. “I’d like that, too. All of that.”

“Now, if we can get our serial killer to cooperate.” Marcus’s head hit the back of the couch. He closed his eyes and sighed, “You have a comfortable couch.”

“It’s a silent assassin. I don’t know how many times I’ve fallen asleep on it.” She looked at him.

He was close. There was so much more to figure out. So much work to do, and yet … she wasn't sure the work needed to be done tonight.

“Can I let you in on a secret?”

He opened one eye and tipped his head so he could see her. “Sure.”

“My bed is much more comfortable.”

Both of Marcus’ eyes were open now. “Are you sure?”

“That it’s comfortable? Yes. That I want you to know how comfortable it is? Also yes. Unless I’m rushing things, and you’d rather not …”

He popped off the couch and extended his hand. “You’re not rushing, and as a point of fact, figuring out how comfortable your bed is has been on my mind more than it should be.”

She took his hand and stood in front of him. “And you in my bed has been on mine. Perhaps we should indulge our curiosity.”

He shook his head as they walked into the bedroom, and when she reached the bed, he pulled her into his arms. “Just to correct a point. I’m not curious.

I’m starving.” The smile that spread across his face was panty-melting, and when he smiled that wide, he had dimples.

Why hadn’t she noticed that before? He dipped for a kiss.

His tongue swirled across her lips, and she opened for him.

Those sparks became lightning bolts that heated her core with precise, direct hits.

His hands traveled over her. His fingers were light, and the almost-there touch over her breasts caused a full body shiver. He smiled as he kissed her. “You liked that.”

“Yeah, I did,” she admitted. She stepped back and pulled off her shirt.

Her slacks were next. He watched her as she slid out of her panties and unfastened her bra.

As she moved toward him, he seemed to shake himself out of his trance, and he whipped his shirt off over his head, not bothering to unbutton it any further than he’d already unfastened it.

His slacks and shoes were kicked off at the same time.

He reached for his waistband, but she stopped him.

By the look of what was bulging from those briefs, she was going to be in for a treat.

She knelt in front of him and pulled the waistband down slowly.

Oh, yes, the man was endowed. The briefs dropped to the floor.

She cupped his balls in one hand and circled his shaft with the other.

His hands threaded through her hair and tightened a bit.

She looked up at him and licked the length of his cock.

A shiver went through him, and she noted his reaction.

She smiled up at him and then took his cock into her mouth.

She loved to give head. She loved the control it gave her over her partner.

Not that she wanted to dominate him. She wasn’t into that, but she loved being able to make a man—and this man in particular—want her even more.

She’d never been a girly girl; she was athletic and a cop …

but she loved that she could make a man like this shake.

She enjoyed the sensation of that silky cock against her tongue and the thickness against the back of her throat.

She glanced up as she took him as deep as she could. She wanted to know if he was as into this as she was. His eyes were glued to her. His thumb caressed her cheek. He nodded. “Yeah, fuck, that’s perfect.”

She worked his shaft for about a minute before he pulled away and grabbed her by the arms, pulling her up. She licked her lips and smiled at him.

“My turn.” He pushed her against the side of the bed, dropping her to the mattress.

He was on his knees, arms wrapped around her thighs, and pulling her to him in a flash.

He parted her and did exactly what she’d done.

He licked a wide stripe up to her clit, and she arched into his mouth, dropping her head back onto the mattress.

His tongue played her like he’d taken lessons and practiced. She writhed under him. Wanting more, needing more, and still not reaching it.

He stopped and kissed her inner thighs before he stood and motioned for her to move up the bed.

She did, and he dropped down on top of her.

His lips found her as he covered her. The kiss was not enough and too much.

She broke it as she wrapped her arms around him.

“Finish this, King. Finish me. I need it.”

“I know.” He lifted to his elbow. “Condom?”

She shook her head. “IUD.”

He dropped for another kiss and lifted his knee, bringing her leg up.

She wrapped both of her legs around his waist and felt his shaft enter her.

It had been almost two years since she’d had sex.

She was tight, but he wasn’t in a rush, and he stroked in and out in short thrusts.

When he was finally seated deep, he held there.

She was panting under him. Her body was at that point where it was drawn tight and needed release.

She’d had men leave her hanging. It was the most frustrating and disappointing feeling in the world.

She didn’t want Marcus to disappoint her.

Please, please don’t disappoint me. “Move.” She begged him.

And God, did he move. His hips found a rhythm that forced her higher and tighter. His cock felt so good. So damn good. She dug her nails into his back and arched to get closer to him, to reach that peak. She needed him to do … something.

He repositioned and thrust harder. She shattered, riding wave after wave of contractions that sent spirals of sensation through her core.

The sound that came out of her was torn from the depths of her soul.

She’d never orgasmed like that before. He finished as she was floating back down to the ground.

“I think I just saw heaven,” she said as she panted under him.

He lifted to his elbows and looked at her. “I think I’m looking at it now.”

She smiled at him. “Two points for timing and two points for originality. Ten thousand points for the best orgasm I’ve ever had.”

He smiled at her with one of those smiles that made his dimples show up. “Ten thousand? I don’t know, I thought it was at least a fifteen-thousand-point orgasm.”

“See, judging is subjective. You get ten thousand and four points; I get fifteen thousand points. We both get one hell of an orgasm. Win-win.”

“Have I ever told you that your brain is sexy?” He rolled over to his side and brought her with him.

“No, but then again, we’ve never been naked together before, so I have a feeling that we’ll be having these types of conversations more often. You can tell me that again.”

“Oh, I will.” He leaned into her and gave her a gentle kiss on her forehead. He sighed. “You’re right. Your bed is comfortable.”

She snuggled into him after pulling her hair out from under her shoulder. “We should get some sleep.”

“That sounds like a plan.” He adjusted his arm under her head and wrapped her up in his arms. She closed her eyes.

Before she drifted off to sleep, she wondered what would have happened if he hadn’t followed this case.

Would they have ever met? She doubted it …

but she wasn’t going to thank the serial killer.

Instead, she thanked fate, or destiny, or just dumb luck …

anything and anyone but that son of a bitch.
