Chapter 7 #5
Her mouth is devastating. Thorough, unhurried, her tongue curling along the underside of my cock and working the ridge below the head where the sensation concentrates, then drawing back to circle the tip with a patience that locks my thighs.
She tastes herself on me. I know this because the connection transmits the moment she registers it, and she doesn't pull back.
She takes me deeper. Before tonight I've set the pace, controlled the depth, held her head where I wanted it.
Tonight she's running this, and what she does with the freedom is take me apart.
Her fist wraps around the base, firm, stroking in rhythm with her mouth.
Her lips seal around the head and she sucks with a drawing pressure that sends my blood pounding behind my eyes.
She takes me deeper still, her throat opening, the muscles constricting around me in a tight squeeze that drags a sound from me I didn't authorize.
Her gaze is on mine while she does this. The eye contact—her on her knees, her mouth stretched around me, my body rigid with the effort of not thrusting forward and taking her throat as I've taken everything else—is more naked than anything that has happened in this bed.
She works me with her tongue on every stroke, flat and firm, and the sounds of her mouth fill the stone chamber.
Spit gathers at the corners of her lips and she doesn't wipe it away, doesn't break the rhythm.
Her mouth working, her jaw stretched, the tendons in her neck moving as she swallows around me.
The visual of it makes my hand find her hair.
Gently, for the first time. My fingers thread through the strands instead of fisting in them.
She feels the difference. And what comes through the connection is something that is more mystifying than the wanting: the sharp, bright flare of her choosing to give me something she once endured, and the distinction between those two acts rewriting every rule I've set for what happens in this room.
The finish builds at the base of my spine, a pressure that coils tighter with every stroke of her tongue, every squeeze of her fist. My hips thrust forward, once, involuntary, and she takes it. She takes all of it.
I finish in her mouth with my hand still in her hair, fingers threaded through the strands, holding her there without force, and the groan that comes from the bottom of my chest is a sound I would kill any man in this Tower for hearing.
The orgasm rolls through me in pulses that empty me on her tongue while the world narrows to nothing but the heat of her mouth and the devastating fact that she chose to put me in it.
She swallows. Sits back on her heels. Wipes her chin with the back of her hand. The gesture is the same one she's made every time, but the context has changed everything about what it means.
I pull her up from the floor. She comes without resistance. I guide her back onto the bed and lie down beside her.
This is the part where I leave the bed. Before tonight, I've gotten up afterward.
Dressed. Walked the corridors until my pulse steadied and the wanting retreated behind something I could control.
Then I came back, and she pretended to be asleep, and I held her in the dark with the distance of those corridors still between us.
The space was necessary. The distance was structural.
Without it, the wanting bleeds into the strategy and the strategy is all I have.
I don't leave. I pull the furs over us and settle my arm across her waist and fit my chest to her back, and I don't move.
Her body goes rigid for a heartbeat. Two.
The tension of waiting for me to stand and dress and close the door behind me.
When the standing doesn't come, I feel the confusion move through her like a current, followed by something she would deny if I named it: relief.
A small, involuntary loosening of the muscles along her spine, as if a weight she'd been carrying since Dover had eased by a fraction. Still there. Resting differently.
The bond hums between us, low and steady and warm. The fire is dying. The river murmurs beyond the outer walls. Somewhere in the Tower, a raven calls from the battlements and another answers.
My hand is spread across her belly, and beneath my palm I can feel her breathing slow by degrees.
The bruises are still there. The marks are still mine.
The discipline and the possession and the ritual of every night before this one are still the framework we live inside.
Nothing has been dismantled. Nothing has been forgiven.
But something has cracked. The fracture is too wide to mortar shut, and I don't know how to reinforce it. I'm not certain I want to.
I hold her. She lets me. The burned settlement on the Dover road, the contaminated grain at Warwick, the word Dunsinane, every threat converging on the borders of the world I've built: all of it sits in the dark outside this chamber, patient and gathering.
The most dangerous woman in England sleeps with my arm around her, and somewhere behind the silence of her breathing, the mind I can't take and the will I can't break are still running.
She has been mapping my defenses since she arrived. Tonight I showed her exactly where the new ones are thinnest.
