Epilogue

Since Owen rescued me from that cabin, stayed with me at the hospital, and took care of our baby at my grandmother’s house, I’ve been thinking a lot about the two of us. He brought Ellie, who was thrilled to meet her brother and didn’t want to leave.

That’s how our days unfolded. He took time off from the courthouse to help me—changing diapers, giving baths, and getting up at night to bring Liam to me for nursing. He also helped me with my own baths, getting dressed, and sometimes even feeding me while I was breastfeeding.

He’s proven to be a wonderful man. Everyone here at home already likes him, especially my father. Dad is reopening his company, and Owen has been helping with the paperwork. We’ve been so happy.

When Liam turned two months old, Owen took me to his house so his mother could meet the baby, and he wanted me to pick out everything for the nursery there too. He even had an architect waiting for me.

We chose everything together, and then she left.

That day he asked me to stay, and as much as I wanted to take things slow, I also wanted everything all at once.

So I stayed. As always, he was incredibly attentive, helping me with everything, especially at night, which helped me rest so much. I stayed for two days.

I watched them start the nursery project, which was designed by Emma, the wife of Owen’s friend Mattia.

When I met her, I adored her instantly—a wonderful woman who had also suffered a lot in life but found love and peace with Mattia.

She left everything behind in New York and came here to be with him.

Her story inspired me deeply, and even though Owen has always respected me, I decided to forgive him. After all, none of us are perfect, and as he said, the past is the past—we have to keep moving forward.

That day, he took me back to my grandmother’s house and helped me with everything I’d brought. When we were in my room with Liam, I said:

“I know it might be too late, but I wanted to apologize for what I did. I should have talked to you and told you everything. I’m sure you would have helped me.”

He stared at me without any reaction, not saying a word, so I started again.

“I know you’re only here because—” And he kissed me, that sweet touch I’d missed so much.

“Don’t be ridiculous. I’m with you because I love you more than anything, and of course I want you and my son with me and Ellie. I’ve missed this strawberry taste.”

He kissed me again, slowly at first, then deepening it, his tongue touching mine, consuming me hungrily—just the way I’d always liked it.

“If I don’t stop, I’m going to end up tearing your clothes off right here. I need to go now, but I’ll be back tomorrow to see you both.”

“I’ll be waiting.”

He left, and I was alone with my son, who slept peacefully in his crib. Seconds later, my grandmother came through the door.

“It’s so good to see you looking so happy.”

“I really am, Grandma. So happy. We finally worked things out.”

“I thought this day would never come.”

“Hey, girl, can I come in?”

“Of course, Ary, come in.”

“I came to see this little cutie of a godson, and I ran into your judge leaving with a suspicious little smile on his face.”

“We got back together. I decided to forgive him.”

“That’s great, girl. I’m so happy for you both. After all, it’s obvious you two love each other—there’s no point denying it.”

“I’ll leave you two to chat and go fix something for you to eat.”

“Thanks, Grandma.”

We talked for hours. Liam woke up, I fed him, Ary changed him, and then we went downstairs to have the snack my grandmother had prepared. That day was perfect. My father managed to close his first contract, and we were all so happy. I paused for a moment to watch them all, and I loved them so much.

Owen came every day after work, stayed a while, and then left.

You could tell how tired he was since he also had Ellie to take care of.

So I made do with whatever time he could spend with us.

He always picked us up on Friday nights, but that day he texted saying he couldn’t come and didn’t even offer to send a driver.

I found it strange, but figured he must have been exhausted and wanted to go home and rest. Well, we’ll spend Friday at home, I thought—but I was wrong. I heard a soft knock on the bedroom door and called out to come in. Suddenly Ellie appeared with a rose in her hand and gave it to me.

“For you, Auntie Li. Daddy’s waiting for you downstairs.”

“Thank you, sweetheart. Did you say Daddy’s here?” I found it strange, but I picked up Liam and left the room with Ellie. When I reached the stairs, I stopped in surprise.

The living room was filled with bouquets of red roses, and Owen was kneeling on the floor with a small box in his hand. As soon as I finished coming down the stairs, he opened it, revealing a beautiful pink diamond. I hadn’t expected this.

“Amy, I know we made mistakes, and like I said, it’s in the past, but I still blame myself for everything that happened to you.

The way I sent you away, and then when you were kidnapped—that’s why I haven’t left your side since then.

I wanted to care for you and protect you.

And that’s why I’m here today. I want to make up for everything and make you happy, to give you all the love and care you deserve.

I want you by my side through every moment, good or bad.

I want you to help me raise Ellie, who loves you so much—to be her mom.

I want to watch you grow professionally and help you conquer the world. Will you marry me?”

In that moment, I remembered everything he’d said and everything I’d been through, and there I was with my son in my arms. Ellie looking at me with that sweet little face, and Owen, the man I love, kneeling at my feet, asking me to marry him. It couldn’t have been more perfect.

“Yes. I’ll be your wife, I’ll be Ellie’s mother, I’ll share everything with you, and I promise to try to make you a little happier every day.”

“With you by my side, I’m already happy, my love.”

He slips that beautiful ring on my finger, stands up, and kisses me. My father and grandmother start clapping in the background. We embrace—now we’ll truly be a family.

“Make my daughter happy, or I’ll come get her back.”

“You can count on it—that’s exactly what I intend to do. Now I have a family.”

After that day, it wasn’t long before we set our wedding date.

The ceremony was simple—we only invited a few friends, my grandmother, and my father.

We decided against a honeymoon since Liam was still so young, but our days were perfect.

He kept his promise, making me happier with each passing day.

I felt completely fulfilled. We were the perfect family—everything I’d always dreamed of.

Sometimes we let a small mistake push us away from the people we love, but we chose to forgive each other and embrace what was always ours—the love, the happiness, the bond, the friendship, and most importantly, the respect we now have for one another.

That made our relationship stronger. And as I sit here on the grass, watching my husband and my two children play, I can honestly say I’ve never felt more complete.
